Kuala Lumpur Textile Museum is located within the Sultan Abdul Samad Building area. The Museum displays an interesting range of Malaysian cloths from the various states. Serving as a repository for the Malaysian textile heritage, this museum also disseminates information regarding the usage, creativity and foreign influence on the industry.
There are several exhibition galleries at the venue including Pohon Budi Gallery. The Pohon Budi Gallery showcases the origins of textiles from the pre-historic times as well as its growth through trade. Also exhibited are the tools, materials and traditional techniques of textile-making through the processes of weaving, embroidery, batik-making, gold embroidering, knitting and beading work with particular focus on the country's predominant textiles such as the songket (a silk sarong with golden thread woven into it)
The Ratna Sari Gallery exhibits jewelry items and personal adornments of the various ethnic groups in Malaysia made of gold, silver, copper, beads and plants, which are designed to be worn on the various parts of the body, from head to toe. Amongst them are the crown, dangling earrings, hair pin, necklace with a large concave pendant, large waist buckle usually made of silver, bracelet, chastity plate, anklet and various others.

Sarawak Textile Museum // 3D Animation Project
3D Environment unit has always been one of my favourite unit for my Multimedia Design course and I was more than happy to have 3D Animation Project as my last unit for my final year. And for that I have chose to design Sarawak Textile Museum to showcase and promote some of our local well-known textiles and the museum itself!
And I love love love doing digital painting hence I did one for this project as well!

National Textile Museum located in Building 26 at Lot 50 Public Works Department Section 70, Jalan Sultan Hishammuddin, Kuala Lumpur. The architecture of this building Mughal-Islamic orientation. The museum has streaks of red and white of its own revenue from red bricks and white plaster punctuated with alternate, characterizing the adaptation of the Moghul-Islam style of architecture. Entranceway facing the Jalan Sultan Hishammuddin consists of two rectangular oval shaped pole that stretches out from the walls of the dome-roofed. There are two octagonal-shaped tower on the side of the building. In each tower there is a concrete dome surrounded by smaller domes. In 2008, space was added to the glass lobby of the building and used as the main entrance to the museum.
English architect of A.B. Hubback building design and construction coupled with the Sultan Abdul Samad building in 1896. This building was used as the State Railways Headquarters Federated Malay States in 1905. In 1917, the building was submitted to the NSW government and made of Selangor. This building was subsequently occupied by the Selangor Water Works Department, the Central Bank and the Bank of Agriculture from 1959 to 1980 before being handed over to the Urban Development Authority Holdings Berhad (UDA) in 1981. In 1986, this building has been leased by the Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation as a showcase for art and craft and made the Textile Museum. From 2001 until 2004, it functioned as the High Court (Appellate and Special Powers) and the Gallery of Justice before access to the construction of the National Textile Museum in October 2007 as a follow-up approval from the Cabinet on July 13, 2005 the Memorandum of the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage-No. 527/2468/2005 on the proposal for the establishment of the National Textile Museum.
Building the National Textile Museum is a 2 ½-storey building with an area of 3259m2 of land and floor area 3145.3m2, was gazetted on 13 October 1983 as a historical building in the Government Gazette PU (A) 423, Order of Old Monuments and Sites Historical Land (No. 3), Bendapurba Act 1976. Under the Ninth Malaysia Plan 9 (2006-2010), Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture through the Department of Museums Malaysia conducted the project 'Conservation Work Item Proposal, Filling Exhibition and Interior Design for the National Textile Museum of Kuala Lumpur, from August 2007 until completed by June 2009. The museum was opened to the public on January 9, 2010.

The Brooke Gallery tells the story of one of the most remarkable kingdoms in history: Sarawak and its ‘White Rajahs’. In the 1830s Sarawak, a province of the once-mighty Sultanate of Brunei in north-west Borneo, was ravaged by piratical raiding and rebellion against Brunei rule. Inspired by stories of its natural wonders and diverse indigenous cultures, a bold English adventurer, James Brooke, arrived on its shores in his yacht, Royalist, in August 1839. He was to forge a unique bond with its peoples and together they built the foundations of today’s Sarawak.
Fort Margherita has been restored by the National Heritage Department and the building handed back to the Sarawak Museum Department ready for the development of The Brooke Gallery.
The Trust worked closely with the Sarawak Museum to develop the narrative and content, as well as providing artefacts from the Brooke Family’s collection. The Trust has sponsored this permanent exhibition at the Fort which was opened on 24 September 2016 by the Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg. The fabrication and installation works were made possible by the support of many committed local and global volunteers of the Trust.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Anthropologists have described Iban society as egalitarian with status based on achievement rather than birth, and this is still evident when visiting an Iban longhouse today. At Entawau, the central apartments belong to the family of Temenggong Koh, perhaps the most famous Iban leader of the first half of the twentieth century. Dapong anak Sempurai was born at the far end of the longhouse, but married Koh’s grandson and moved to one of the central apartments. There she lived with her husband and her mother-in-law, Iba anak Temenggong Koh, a renowned weaver.
While Iba was steeped in the full historical significance of Iban cloths (especially their association with the taking of enemy heads in warfare), Dapong came of age at a time when remarkable changes were coming to the interior of Sarawak. In order to give her two daughters a better education, Dapong left the longhouse and moved to Kapit, a trading port on the Rejang River. She opened a clothing store but had no time for weaving. When her daughters finished school and her husband died, Dapong became the manager of a canteen in a logging camp, and she also returned to weaving. Today Dapong balances the diverse circumstances of her life, although the cultural complex that once supported weaving has completely altered.

The objective of International Museum Day is to raise awareness of the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.” Organised on and around 18 May each year, the events and activities planned to celebrate IMD can last a day, a weekend or a whole week.
Participation in International Museum Day is growing among museums all over the world. In 2014, more than 35,000 museums participated in the event in over 140 countries from all continents.

BA Linguistics students #cohort4 from UNIMAS went on a day trip to two museums in Sarawak, Malaysia which are Sarawak Museum and also Textile Museum as part of their course PBS 1013 (National Culture & National Building).
It was an awesome eye-opening experience where we learn a lot about the people from the past.
