David’s Been Here travels through Lesotho to explore what many call “the Kingdom in the Sky.” Lesotho is the only country in the world to be entirely above 1,000 meters above sea level. David’s favorite hotel in Lesotho was the Maliba Mountain Lodge in Tsehlanyane National Park, which he profiles in this video.
The lodge graciously hosted David in a luxurious chalet with double beds, beautiful vistas, wood burning fireplace, and handcrafted furniture. The Maliba Lodge has 6 mountainside chalets for couples and 4 river chalets that can accommodate up to 8 people.
People come to Lesotho to enjoy the natural landscapes and local culture. Maliba Lodge took David horseback riding, on a village tour, and gave him a much-needed back massage at the hotel spa.
Some of the features that make Maliba Mountain Lodge so great is the free Wi-Fi, heated floors, and heated beds (yes, you read that right). David then lets Daniel, the hotel’s Guest Relations Manager, say a little bit more about the property.
Daniel explains that the hotel is situated in the northern part of the country. It has two room types: the 5-star mountain chalets and the 3-star self-catering cottages. Activities offered by Maliba Mountain Lodge include: horseback riding, hiking, spa treatments, and cultural visits to nearby villages. Guests who want to horseback ride are sent with an experienced guide and all the necessary equipment to explore the trails of Tsehlanyane National Park.
Village tours are meant to familiarize guests with the local culture. Stops include seeing the local doctor, traditional mud huts, and the local school. The video finishes by showing us the landscaped gardens and unique architecture found at Maliba.

Lesotho Rondeval
Here's a video of my new rondeval in Mohale's Hoek. It's out in the middle of nowhere about halfway along a dirt road to a seldom used boarder gate.
This new place hasn't got any electricity, but the place is small enough to heat adequately with just one gas heater. (That's a plus as winter approaches.) This new place is made of stone and cow shit, and the floor is hard-packed mud with some vinyl floor covering thrown down. There's a water tap about 60m downhill. I love my mosquito net, tho!
(My last video was attacked by an internet troll. And as we all know, internet trolls are dickless cowards hiding behind their IP anonymity. But ironically, were I to call out that troll, then the internet would rally behind the troll and I'd just fall under attack. Personally, I subscribe to the Jay & Silent Bob method of dealing with internet trolls, but that's not an option here.)

King Moshoeshoe: Founder of the Basotho Nation
Surrounded by enemies on all sides, Moshoeshoe held his own and to this day the nation he founded: Lesotho lives on! All hail King Moshoeshoe!
Strategic thinking and inspirational leadership by King Moshoeshoe in the 19th Century led to the formation of Lesotho.
Emerging between the Zulu nation, the Boers and the British, Moshoeshoe used his diplomatic skill to unite Sotho clans escaping the Zulu's conquering forces.
He preserved his kingdom, either absorbing or overcoming rival tribes.
Moshoeshoe used the mountains to create a defendable capital, Thaba Bosiu (Mountain at Night) and used French missionaries' diplomacy and weaponry.
Defeating the British in 1851, but losing to the Boers in 1868 in the battle of the Lowland, Moshoeshoe appealed to Queen Victoria for help. She declared Bastholand a British protectorate.
In 1966, Basutoland gained its independence from Britain, becoming the Kingdom of Lesotho.
Never forget King Moshoeshoe -- Founder of the Basotho Nation!
