Chiang Mai Tours - Welcome to Thailand Hilltribe Holidays
Authentic tours of Chiang Mai and northern Thailand that show you the local way of life
MUST DO IN CHIANG MAI - Authentic Northern Thailand Hill Tribe
A must do in Chiang Mai is this 100% authentic Northern Thailand Hill Tribe tour. Unlike other things to do in Chiang Mai, this is well off the tourist radar. Watch us explore native Thai villages, cook, and eat exotic Thai food with the locals of Northern Thailand.
Many tour companies in Chiang Mai offer a “hill tribe tour”, only to take you to a contrived Thai village that only exists to serve tourists. What Thailand Hilltribe Holidays does, is offer you a 100% authentic Northern Thailand Hill Tribe tour without any other tourists with you. We were taken to two villages: the Karen Hill Tribe and Hmong Hill Tribe.
* Book this tour with Thailand Hilltribe Holidays:
First was the Karen Hill Tribe in Northern Thailand where we were able to meet a village family and cook with them. Being able to cook with a hill tribe family was one of the most unique experiences in Thailand we have had in all 4 months here! The main dishes were sticky rice cooked inside of bamboo and a mix of curries, however we were able to try some exotic Thai food when they served frog soup! Watch and see how Ryan got tricked into eating this… haha!
The next stop on our Hill Tribe Village tour was the Hmong Hill Tribe village, also located in Northern Thailand inside of Doi Suthep National Park. The Hmong village was more advanced than the Karen, and quite resembled a traditional Thai village you might have seen a decade ago. Since so many people travel Thailand each year, it’s becoming more difficult to find the “local Thailand” visitors crave to see. We can guarantee you by taking this tour, you will have a one of a kind, unforgettable experience.
* Want to learn more about this authentic Thailand Hill Tribe tour? Read our blog here:
If you’re wondering what to do in Chiang Mai but don’t want to hit up the popular tourist spots, then this authentic Northern Thailand Hill Tribe tour is for you. It took us a lot of research to find this experience, since it’s not on any of the Chiang Mai to do lists you find online. We hope by watching this video you were able to get an inside look into life for a local Thailand hill tribe and are inspired to take a hill tribe tour yourself!
If you have any questions about this must do in Chiang Mai, how to travel Thailand, or the best things to do in Chiang Mai, feel free to leave a comment down below. DAY [1]
Outfit:

Night Bazaar
Good for souvenirs, make sure to haggle aka just walk away lol
DAY [2]
Outfit:
Top Nastygal old
Culottes NAKD old
Shoes H&M old
Backpack Rag & Bone Pilot
(3) Temple Tour
I think it was $30? per person. All of the tours we booked were found on tripadvisor.com- we chose the ones with the highest ratings and paid through the website or online. All of the tours we took also picked us up at our hotel at 8am. The temple tour was from 8am-12pm and was relatively affordable. It was a small van of 5 people.
*for this tour, be sure to be well-covered and to wear slip-on shoes as you will not be able to enter otherwise.
DAY [3]
Outfit:
Skirt & maxi set
Happy Elephant Home Sanctuary
We did the one that's 8am-5pm, lunch included. Very fun, very surreal! Would recommend! Tied with the waterfall as our FAVORITE part of the trip.
DAY [4]
Outfit:
Top Missguided old
Skirt Korean store (idk)
Shoes Puma (old)
Private tour (and car service) through Doi Inthanon National Park and other very popular tourist spots. The hike with Bohk, a member from the White Karen tribe, was probably one of our favorite parts of the trip, but overall, we felt the private tour was a bit unnecessary. Also this was the most expensive tour ($140~ for the two of us) and we could've definitely done the national park on our own. But it felt very luxurious and safe and was one of our easiest tour days, because we didn't have to worry about if we were in the right place/getting there/etc. Lunch was also included!
DAY [5]
Outfit:
Dress Forever 21
Sunglasses Lespecs x Adam Selman
Bua Tong Sticky Waterfall
A MUST GO!!!! 5/5 stars!! We went super early in the morning at 8am on a weekday, so it wasn't crowded at all! We heard this place can get super crowded with schools and many other tourists, so we got very lucky. This was our favorite part of the trip because it was so fun and accessible and it felt like a free water park. We hired a red truck for $40 to take us and wait there for an hour watching our luggage (our tour guide from the other day said this was the best way to do this, as well as resources online said this).

Long neck village tour
Our friend, a Long neck woman 'Mapran' , takes us on a guided tour thruough her village 'Huay Bpu Keng' in Mae hong son, by the border of Myanmar
Chiang Mai Road Trip - Samoeng Loop
Looking for the best Chiang Mai Road Trip? Take a motorbike around the Samoeng Loop, 2 hours surrounding Doi Suthep National Park. On your way, you can catch the Mae Sa Waterfall, enjoy scenic overlooks, and maybe stop at this secret coffee shop we found with the best views in Chiang Mai Thailand!
If you’re looking for fun things to do in Chiang Mai, a road trip (or motorbike trip) should be high on your list. Unlike the Mae Hong Son loop which takes multiple days and is difficult for a short holiday in Chiang Mai, the Samoeng loop only takes 2 hours and has amazing stops along the way!
If you start on the Samoeng loop heading North, you can reach the Mae Sa Waterfall in just 30 minutes by motorbike. Although this isn’t on the top list of the most impressive waterfalls in Chiang Mai, Mae Sa waterfall has 10 different mini waterfalls that you can hike to and look at. Fall #5 you can even swim in and have a picnic by, which is a popular local activity for Thai’s and tourists alike.
To get the best views in Chiang Mai, keep going on the Samoeng loop until you reach the middle which is an area called Samoeng Tai. Basically, you can pull over anywhere along this route and see amazing views of all of the hills and valleys surrounding Chiang Mai Thailand.
We were lucky enough to find a secret spot, with nobody else around, that had the best views in Chiang Mai! The place is a coffee shop and hotel called: น้องน้ำ รีสอร์ท. Now since we don’t speak Thai, I don’t know what that means so here is the address: น้องน้ำ รีสอร์ท Tambon Samoeng Tai, Amphoe Samoeng, Chang Wat Chiang Mai 50250
If you are looking to do an easy Thailand road trip then we highly recommend the Samoeng Loop! It’s a great Mae Hong Son Loop alternative and an easy day trip in Chiang Mai for those of you who only have a few days to see the sights. We suggest taking the Samoeng Loop to explore the Chiang Mai countryside and all the beautiful Thai nature. Although you can rent a car, your best bet is to rent a motorbike in Chiang Mai for the day to take you on this route. Ours was only $9 USD for an entire 24 hours.
If you have questions about this Chiang Mai road trip, want more travel tips in Chiang Mai, or are curious about Chiang Mai travel in general, feel free to watch our other Thailand travel vlogs! We provide useful travel guides for the places we visit and have spent 4 months in Thailand sharing the best places to visit, both on and off the tourist trail. Day Trip to Chiang Rai, White Temple, Golden Triangle and Long Neck Village from Chiang Mai)
A day full of sightseeing in Northern Thailand
This one-day Chiang Rai tour will take you to several spots in- and around. You’ll visit the famous White Temple, the Black House, The Golden Triangle, Long Neck village and take a boat trip on the Mekong river.
Expect a full program which is definitely worth it!
The White Temple or Wat Rong Khun is unique in the sense that this modern temple was designed and built by artist Chaloemchai Khositphiphat. Started in 1998, the project is ongoing, and never really finished. A beautiful white ordination hall (Phra Ubosot) is decorated with silver glittering pieces of mirrors. There are large mural paintings of the Lord Buddha in different gestures. If you think the pictures looked spectacular, wait until you see the real thing.
Baan dam Museum (Black house) created by Thailand national artist Thawan Duchanee, is a black houses made of wood, glass, concrete, bricks, or terracotta in various unique styles and design scattered around the temple area. The cluster of houses accommodates Thawan’s collections of paintings, sculptures, animal bones, skins, horns, and silver and gold items from around the world. Several of the houses exhibit Balinese and Burmese art, dating back to the Ayutthaya Period
During your Chiang Rai tour you will also visit the Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet. Take in the views over the mighty Mekong river and float into Laos by boat. You are also going to visit the famous long neck Hilltribe Village.

Hot Springs
White temple (Rong Khun temple)

TEMPLES IN CHIANG MAI - Why Women Can't Enter
There are almost 300 temples in Chiang Mai, Thailand. However, we share the Thai history behind why women can’t enter some of them. Watch to see our picks for the Top 3 temples in Chiang Mai, and which ones you can’t enter if you are a woman.
If you are coming to travel Thailand on holiday, it’s likely you won’t have nearly enough time to visit all 300 temples in Chiang Mai Thailand. So, we are sharing the 3 best temples in Chiang Mai you should visit to get the biggest diversity in styles and cultures.
The first temple we visited was the Silver Temple Chiang Mai. This temple was easily the most unique temple we have ever seen and it sat beside a silversmith village. The entire temple was plated in silver and metal in 2008 as a tribute to the heavy influence silver had on northern Thai history. So, you’re wondering which temples women can’t enter? The Silver temple is one of them. We love sharing facts about Thailand when we come across them, and this was a piece of Thailand information we could not pass up. As we arrived at the silver temple, sure enough we were greeted with a big “Women can’t enter silver temple” sign. The history behind this Thai rule stems from an old Buddhist rule that states the presence of a woman can disrupt relics and energy that are found throughout the temples. If a women does enter one of the temples in Thailand that is marked as forbidden, it is said they will experience bodily harm.
The next temple is called Wat Chedi Luang and it’s one of the most popular places to visit in Chiang Mai due to it’s central proximity in the Old City. Wat Chedi Luang is a standing piece of Thai history, as it survived an earthquake in the early 1500’s which demolished the top half of the pagoda. One of the more interesting facts about Thailand originated here with a tree planted centuries ago right next to Wat Chedi Luang. It is said that the tree is the protector of the region and if it falls, a big catastrophe will take place.
One of the last, and arguably most magnificent, temples in Chiang Mai we visited was Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. This temple is on everyones list of the top things to do in Chiang Mai. The Doi Suthep Temple is one of the holiest buddhist temples in all of the world, as it is said to hold the shoulder bone of Buddha himself. This makes Wat Phra That Doi Suthep a popular buddhist pilgrimage site and also one of the most culturally rich places to see while you travel Thailand.
If you guys enjoyed seeing our Top 3 list of the best temples in Chiang Mai, give this video a thumbs up! Which temples are you planning on visiting? Are you upset by the Buddhist rule that women can’t enter some temples? We are living in Chiang Mai Thailand for 2 months, so be sure to stick around and see more Thailand travel vlogs. If you want to learn more facts about Thailand, go see our Thailand travel vlogs in Bangkok and Southern Thailand. Also, don’t forget to leave us a comment down below, subscribe, and tell us which temple was your favorite! We will see you guys in the next video. Seeya!

LANTERN FESTIVAL IN CHIANG MAI THAILAND - Yi Peng Lantern Festival
The Lantern Festival in Chiang Mai Thailand was the most incredible thing we have ever experienced! Also called the Yi Peng Lantern Festival, watch as we show you 5,000 sky lanterns float above the Chiang Mai night sky. You have to add this to your Thailand bucket list!
We’re sure you’ve seen it. Whether on Instagram, YouTube, or in the Tangled lantern scene, the Lantern Festival in Chiang Mai Thailand has stolen the hearts of travelers worldwide. That was certainly the case for us! Formally known as the Yi Peng Lantern Festival, it takes place in November on the full moon in Northern Thailand, specifically in Chiang Mai. We essentially planned our entire trip to Southeast Asia surrounding the lantern festival, making sure we would be in Chiang Mai to witness this famous lanternfest.
**Buy your tickets to the Lantern Festival in Chiang Mai Thailand here:
Yi Peng, sometimes spelled Yee Peng, is held during the same time as the Loy Krathong festival, however they are two separate Thailand holiday’s. Loy Krathong is the river floating lantern festival and Yi Peng is the sky lantern festival. This mass lantern release in particular was held at the Cowboy Army Riding Club. We were able to enjoy traditional Thai food, a Thai dance, Buddhist Monk ceremony, and release our sky lanterns along with 5,000 others into the night sky. To be honest, we got a little emotional… and if you’ve ever attended, you can understand why. The Yi Peng Lantern Festival is considered one of the best of Thailand celebrations, and for good reason. The floating lantern festival premise is gaining popularity and new events are popping up worldwide. But, if you want to experience the original mass lantern release, then you absolutely must purchase your tickets to the lantern festival in Chiang Mai Thailand!
**Read our entire Yi Peng Lantern Festival guide & blog article here:
Although this was a paid event, there is a wonderful free Yi Peng sky lantern festival celebration held throughout the city of Chiang Mai Thailand. Although the free event is wonderful, don’t expect to see this many lanterns concentrated in one place. To get this experience, you must purchase tickets to any of the Yi Peng events for the lantern festival in Chiang Mai.
If you have any questions about the Yi Peng Lantern Festival, the Loy Krathong Festival (watch our previous video to see that), tips on how to travel Thailand, or are simply wondering what to do in Chiang Mai, leave a comment down below! We will answer any of your questions :) Thank you for watching our latest Thailand travel vlog and we hope to see you in the next video! Happy ยี่เป็ง - Sawadeeka!
Thank you to Asia Highlights (.com) for providing us VIP Tickets to the Yi Peng 2018 Thailand Lantern Festival in Chiang Mai!

Check Out Twin Peaks.
Contact Perfect Homes for them to sell your property.
Following a somewhat troubled early phase of the project in which the original developer (Japanese-Thai property consortium Siam Zokei) was bought out by Thailand’s largest consumer goods conglomerate (Saha Asia), Twin Peaks was officially unveiled in August 2006 as the first of the Saha Group’s Peaks branded low-rise luxury condos in Chiang Mai and, interestingly, is an almost exact replica of their Twin Peaks Residence in Bangkok! Flaunting understated modern-contemporary design influences from the Land of the Rising Sun and in spite of its now decade-old existence, Twin Peaks remains not only one of the best managed and well cared for pieces of real estate in the entire municipality but also represents one of the pet-friendly condos in Chiang Mai while occupying a superlative position in the very midst of the city’s Central Business District.
Tucked down a small, private and undisturbed soi [lane] off Chang Klan Road in the company of Peaks Garden and Peaks Avenue condos, Twin Peaks really does feel a world away from the bustling urban metropolis beyond yet is mere steps from the epicentre of Chiang Mai’s commercial and financial heartland providing ready access to every possible amenity and convenience. Facing the condo is “The Peak”, an enclave of four outlets among which, for those in search of a package tour or vehicle hire, is a licensed travel agency. And “Because nothing is too good for you”, adjoining Twin Peaks is the deluxe Peak Spa and Beauty Salon at which to indulge in any number of therapeutic massage treatments, revitalising scrubs or pampering facials with advantageous rates for condo residents! Immediately at the entrance to the soi is a serviced laundry shop-cum-dry cleaners and, across from which, the loft styled and reasonably priced Choei Café & Bistro; digital nomads in need of a dedicated environment conducive to their entrepreneurial endeavours will surely rejoice to learn that opening in the coming weeks directly above the Choei coffee shop will be the very latest addition to Chiang Mai’s co-working space scene, WERK.it. Lying but a 10 minute stroll from Twin Peaks is the near-legendary and timelessly atmospheric Night Bazaar; amongst the oldest and most emblematic of after-dark shopping, dining and entertainment venues in the whole of Thailand and a latter-day legacy of bygone Yunnanese traders who plied mule caravan routes between China and Myanmar, the Night Bazaar is home to an almost giddying sprawl of innumerable open-air and indoor restaurants (including Chiang Mai’s inaugural McDonalds!), food courts, purpose-built shopping pavilions, travel agencies, Thai massage parlours, bars and street market vendors peddling just about every type of merchandise imaginable. From there, the eastern fringe of the ’Old City’ with its iconic landmark of Tha Phae Gate is situated just moments away. En route to the Night Bazaar from Twin Peaks stands Pantip Plaza, Northern Thailand’s largest IT and electronics mall now also sheltering a sizeable Big C supermarket, opposite which is the recently launched nightly outdoor flea market, Le Dta’wan. By virtue of its historic roots, the Chang Klan neighbourhood is populated by a fascinating mix of ethnic minority groups -Tai Yai (Burmese Shan) and Cin Haw (Chinese Muslims) especially- whose cultural presence is clearly evident in the mosques, hilltribe farmers’ markets and halal eateries plentiful throughout the area. For a more up-to-the-minute retail experience, both of CentralFestival and Central Airport Plaza malls are easily reachable –as are select other destinations within the city- from Twin Peaks by boarding their respective free shuttle bus which departs several times daily from the nearby five star Shangri-La Hotel or, adjacent to which, The Astra condo.
48HRS Chiang Mai, Thailand | ByAlaaaïa
48HRS in Chiang Mai powered by the MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum. Chiang Mai, a city in mountainous northern Thailand, now has a new jewel in town: MAIIAM - a contemporary art museum.
This warm Contemporary Arts Museum offers not only wonderful arts collection, attractive arts store but also space and taste for arts lovers. Designed by architecture and design studio all(zone), the project houses an important private collection of regional and national art within a renovated warehouse. The building’s primary façade is clad with thousands of small, decorative mirror tiles that reflect light — a decorative technique found in traditional thai temples.
Special thanks to Waan Booth, dear friend and amazing entrepreneur, for hosting us.

TOP 3 TEMPLES IN CHIANG RAI - Thailand White Temple & More!
Here are the Top 3 Temples in Chiang Rai you must see while visiting! Seeing the famous Thailand White Temple was a bucket list item as it’s regarded as one of the best temples in Thailand. But, there is more to Chiang Rai than just the White Temple. Find out which temples you need to visit by watching our Top 3 picks!
After visiting dozens of traditional Thai temples throughout our travels, we decided to visit the unique and unconventional temples during our trip to Chiang Rai. Our first stop, bright and early, was to the famous Thailand White Temple, also known as Wat Rong Khun. It is an absolute necessity to arrive at the Chiang Rai White Temple early, 8am to be exact, to avoid the massive amounts of crowds that surround the temple around early afternoon. The White Temple is owned by a popular artist from Chiang Rai Thailand who has grown to be one of the most influential artists in the country. Although the Wat Rong Khun is not traditional, it is one of the most unique Thailand temples in existence. The Chiang Rai White Temple is open from 8am-6pm and costs 50 Baht to enter.
Our second stop of the day was the Chiang Rai Blue Temple, also known as Wat Rong Seur Ten. We put this on our list of top 3 temples in Chiang Rai because of the sheer artistry that went into creating this temple. In fact, the Blue Temple in Chiang Rai was created by an artist who was a student of the creator of the White Temple. For that reason, you will see similar styles of art between the two temples. The most impressive aspect of the Blue Temple was easily the inside. Unlike the White Temple, you can film and take pictures inside of the Blue Temple. Wow, were we happy about that! The inside of Wat Rong Seur Ten is something out of a Michelangelo painting, it’s that amazing. The entire inside, along with every inch of wall and ceiling is completely covered in amazing mural art and religious design. It’s a sight to behold. The Chiang Rai Blue Temple is open from 8am-8pm and has a free admission.
Lastly, we visited the Chiang Rai Black House, which isn’t a temple per say but rather a museum. Many people also call this the “Black Temple” because most of it’s buildings are designed in a Thai temple style. The Black House is the lifetime collection of yet another famous Thai artist which he leaves on display for tourists traveling through Chiang Rai. The Black House grounds actually consist of 40 buildings on a vast landscape, so crowds aren’t really an issue unlike the other two temples. The Black House has the most expensive admission at 80 Baht per person, and is open from 9am-5pm.
If you have any questions about the top 3 temples in Chiang Rai please leave a comment down below and we will respond as soon as possible. We highly recommend seeing all three locations including the Thailand White Temple, Blue Temple, Black House and it’s grounds. We hope you enjoyed our latest Chiang Rai Thailand travel vlog.
