One of the top things to do in Chiang Mai is walk around and eat through one of the many Chiang Mai night markets - I think Chiang Mai might be the capital of night markets in the world. There’s a night market for every day of the week and some of them stretch longer than you can see.
At night markets in Chiang Mai you’ll find a huge selection of things to buy, from clothes and antiques to even entertainment like music and Thai massage. But for food lovers, the best thing about visiting any Thai night market is the food.
On Sunday night in Chiang Mai the most popular night market is Tha Pae Walking Street (ตลาดท่าแพ) - it really is an entire street that shuts down for a couple of kilometers, and the entire street is filled with things to look at, buy, and eat. Most of the food is set up in designated area, especially in the small courtyards of temples.
In this Thai street food tour of Chiang Mai, the plan was just to walk around and see what looked good to eat.
Here’s what we ate:
Sai krok Isaan (ไส้กรอกอีสาน), Sai ua (ไส้อั่ว) - This impressive cart was filled with different varieties of Thai sausage, both Isaan style sausage, and Northern Thai herb sausage.
Total price - 30 THB ($0.91)
Pork meatballs (ลูกชิ้นหมู) - I’m usually not a huge fan, but these 100% pork meatballs were pretty tasty.
Price - 40 THB ($1.21)
Pork ham (หมูยอ) - After meeting up with my friends Tom, Joel, and JJ, they had already been snacking on some moo yaw, a Vietnamese style ham sausage.
Grilled egg (ไข่ป่าม) - This is a unique Northern Thai food, of grilled egg.
Price - 30 THB ($0.91)
Sticky rice (ข้าวหนุกงา) - One of the Thai snacks I had never tried before were sticky rice patties. They were interesting and quite tasty.
Price - 20 THB ($0.61)
Pork ribs (ซี่โครงหมู), Crab egg custard (อ่องปู) - We saw the ribs being grilled and couldn't’t resist. They were alright, but the paddy crab egg custard was more unique.
Price - 180 THB ($5.46)
Durian (ทุเรียน) - Finally, although a little overpriced, and not season, we couldn’t resist a little nugget of durian to end this Chiang Mai night market Thai food tour.

Best local Northern Thai food in Chiang Mai, Thailand
The restaurant is called Khao Soi Samer Jai (ข้าวซอยเสมอใจ)
Located a little north east outside of the old city of Chiang Mai, Thailand.
This place is very famous for northern Thai food, especially Khao Soi it is definitely one of the best in Chiang Mai.
***Northern sausage or Sai Oua is also really recommended, not too spicy but very very flavorful (with pork)

Average price rage : 30-70 Baht per item
To get there : Taxi, Red car taxi, Scooter, car etc.

|WATCH IN HD| Warorot market (ตลาดวโรรส) or Kad Luang is the most famous market in Chiangmai, Thailand especially well known for the local thai snack, where it is much cheaper compared to other tourists market like night bazar. Warorot or Gad Luang is one of the best spot, not for just shopping, but also for experiencing thai culture and daily life of thais in the morning because warorot market is where thai local shop for food, cloths, household item and other miscellaneous stuff.

One of our favorite things to do while traveling, particularly in Thailand, is to visit a night market. Here at the Chiang Mai Sunday night market, also referred to as the Chiang Mai walking street, you can eat local Thai street food, shop for handmade clothing, and barter for a bargain. Markets are notoriously known to have some of the most unique shopping in Chiang Mai, and this one is by far the best.
The incredible and distinguishing factor of the Sunday night market Chiang Mai is the atmosphere. The market is located in the old city of Chiang Mai Thailand which is surrounded by beautiful buddhist temples and 14th century buildings. You will find most of the Thai street food at the Sunday night market & walking street located on different temple grounds. Is there a better way to enjoy local Thailand cuisine while gazing up at a beautifully ornate buddhist temple? That’s what we call food with a view!
This Chiang Mai market doesn’t get called the best market in Chiang Mai for nothing. The city completely shuts down Ratchadamneon Road for 1.2 Kilometers, so if you plan to visit you better bring your walking shoes! One of the best things about night markets in Thailand is that they stay open late. The night market in Chiang Mai is open each sunday from roughly 5pm - midnight so you will have the chance to see almost every vendor and fulfill your shopping needs. Speaking of shopping in Chiang Mai, don’t forget to test out your haggling skills with is acceptable at all night markets in Chiang Mai. Stacia is absolutely terrible at haggling, but to be fair she was up against a really stern Thai woman who wasn’t going to budge on the price of her dress. Ryan on the other hand is a great haggler even though we left the market empty handed.

Chiang Mai, the city of digital nomads in Thailand offers a very unique overnight experience for our Christmas holiday in 2017. We explored one of the biggest festival, with the theme of American Indian in Chiangmai, Thailand which looks resemble Christmas market and winter market. This festival is called ‘Ping Fai Festival’ held at Chiang Mai Fin Market (Nimman Soi 6). The festival is greatly well-known among Thais for the bonfire where you can grill marshmellow. There is also plenty of handmade and exotic stuffs; apparel, jewelry as well as food stands where you can buy local Thai and Northern Thai style of food. Besides, you can also find some international food such as hamburger, pizza, Korean BBQ, Japanese snack.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. JJ Farmer's Market(Jing Jai market) is my favorite market in Chiang Mai that open every weekend from 6a.m.-1p.m.
JJ Farmer's Market(Jing Jai market) offer varieties of products from raw vegetables and fruits to cooked meal from farmers.
I think if you're in Chiang Mai you should definitely wake up early on your weekend and visit the JJ market.
I bought a bunch of fresh vegetables and also some organic yogurt and milk.

Seeing how the locals shop and live day to day is an interesting part of any culture. While in Chiang Mai Alex and I found ourselves immersed in the Warorot Market in the heart of Chinatown Chiang Mai. This is a must see if you are interested in preparing your own food while traveling, or just to see how another culture lives their normal life!

COOKING THAI FOOD AT A FARM IN CHIANG MAI, THAILAND
We love eating Thai food so we decided we'd try our hand at learning how to cook our favorite Thai dishes at an organic Thai cooking school just outside of Chiang Mai, Thailand located in the scenic and peaceful Thai countryside. We learned how to make Thai green and yellow curry paste; Thai cashew nut and vegetable stir fry; Thai spring rolls; Tom Yum soup with shrimp; Thai coconut curry, Pad Thai and Thai Mango Sticky Rice.

You know we love to eat, so today we've signed up for a cooking course where we're going to learn how to make some of our favorite Thai dishes. Right now we're at the local market, so we're just going to be walking around picking out some of the ingredients we'll need today for the class. Let's have a look.
Judging from the amount of cooking videos we make you'd probably think that we're constantly in the kitchen and that we always like to cook. That couldn't be further from the truth. Most of the time when we're on the road we eat out, so this is actually kind of an excuse to get into the kitchen and cook and to actually try and make food because normally we don't do that.
We have now arrived at the Thai Farm Cooking School. We drove about seventeen kilometers outside of Chiang Mai and it is a completely different world out here. We're just surrounded by nature and an organic farm. We're actually going to be picking a lot of vegetables from here.
We had a choice between doing the cooking course in the city or going out to the countryside and I think we've made the right decision.
Now clean rice already.
Please come inside. I would like you to pick by yourself the whole leaf basil.
I'm making my Yellow curry paste. Pound, pound, pound! Harder! Faster! Stronger!
So Sam is lagging a little behind right? Come on. Master Chef here - look at that. Perfection. No, I really am lagging behind, I better hustle up.
I'm making a yellow curry today. This is mine. This is what I created and Sam went for the green curry, so this is his. And I'd like to point out I don't think he did a very good job. Oh, that just fell in there. What is this? Whatever. Total chunks. You get an F!
Alright, oh! It's boiling! It is not supposed to boil.
We're making the Tom Yum soup. Mine is going to have shrimp and I've got my coconut milk here, so I'm going to be adding some ingredients - mushrooms, onions.
I'm ready to try fine creation. This is my Tom Yum with shrimp. Let's see. I made mine really sweet. I think maybe I put in to much sugar but it is kind of nice and creamy because I used coconut as a base. You need to add more salt or fish sauce then. Mine does need more salt. How is yours?
You look like a farmer drinking soup. I'm keeping this hat I swear. I'm quite happy with mine. I put quite a bit of salt in it and I also put fish sauce.
I'm making my Yellow curry now. I'm just stirring the coconut milk. I put in the curry paste I made earlier.
I was wrong about this dish. It is not a stir fried rice. It is just a vegetable stir-fry. It's really good. I made one with chicken and string beans and mushrooms and here is my yellow curry with potatoes and pumpkin. Is it good? Uh-huh.
We saved the very best for last. Here we have our favorite Thai dessert - Mango Sticky Rice - and it has some deep fried Mung Bean on top. It is crispy. This is going to be good. Alright, let's check out that first bite. It is nice and coconut-y and it is amazing.
So overall that was a really cool experience learning how to cook Thai food. I made five different dishes. I'm beyond full. Like I feel like I'm ready to hibernate now.
So this was 1100 Baht. It was like lunch and dinner and the thing I really liked about this particular school was that it was out in the countryside where we were able to get outside of the city and away from the pollution and whatnot and just have a really cool organic cooking experience:

Walking through a local market in Chiang Mai, Thailand
A Thai train journey: Chiang Mai to Bangkok
Train #12 is a twelve hour long daylight journey from Chiang Mai in northern Thailand to the capital city of Bangkok (well, twelve hours if everything runs on schedule.) This video shows some scenes from Chiang Mai and Bangkok railway stations, together with some views through the dirty windows of the train carriage. The cost of my second class ticket (the only class of service on this particular train) was 641 Thai Baht (about $20 US,) a bargain if you have the time and patience to spend a day on a train.
