???????? Tham Khao Luang Cave, Phetchaburi
This is one of Thailand’s most impressive cave shrines. The story is that Rama IV built the stone gate that separates the main chamber from a second chamber as a security measure for a couple who once lived in the cave. A figure of a prostrate body in the third chamber is said to represent the cycle of life and death but it hasn’t experienced a peaceful resting place as cave robbers in past destroyed much of it in search of hidden treasures. Watch out for thieving monkeys at the entrance.

About 4km north of town is Khao Luang Cave, a dramatic stalactite-stuffed cavern that's one of Thailand’s most impressive cave shrines, and a favourite of King Rama IV when he was a monk. Accessed via steep stairs, it's lit by a heavenly glow every morning (clouds permitting) when sunbeams filter in through the natural skylight.
Things change throughout the year, but the sun shower generally happens between 9am and noon; earlier is better. And note that you have to be standing in the right spot to see it. From February to April the light illuminates the main Buddha image.
Deeper in the cave there are more chambers and shrines, although the back exit is no longer in use. The story is that Rama IV built the stone gate that separates the main chamber from the others as a security measure for a couple who once lived in the cave.

Khao Luang cave
Of all the caves in Phetchaburi province, Khao Luang is the most important and best visited, because of the large number of Buddha images found inside the cave, including a meters high Buddha image cast by order of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V).
The impressive caves are set in Khao Luang hill which is almost 100 meters high, just North of Petchaburi town. They consist of a number of caverns filled with beautifully illuminated golden Buddha images, several chedis and a great number of stalactites hanging from the ceiling.
King Mongkut (Rama IV) who reigned the Kingdom from 1851 until 1868 used the cave to study Buddhism and to meditate. He had a large number of Buddha images placed in the Khao Luang cave.
His successor to the throne, King Chulalongkorn ordered a large 4 meter high Buddha image be made and placed in the cave dedicated to Kings Rama III and Rama IV. He also had a number of older Buddha images restored.
The atmosphere inside the cave is serene and quiet, Buddhist people will pay respect to the Buddha images burning candles and incense sticks. There are about 170 Buddha images in Khao Luang cave. One of the most beautiful is a huge reclining Buddha image, symbolizing the passing of the Buddha into final Nirvana.
The rays of the sun shining through holes of the ceiling of the caves illuminates the cave chambers, giving the gold colored Buddha images a mystical appearance. Apart from the Buddha images and chedis, you will find stalactites hanging from the caves ceiling, formed over the centuries by dripping water.
An old local legend tells that the caves were once inhabited by young women only.
The caves are accessed through a paved stairs close to the parking lot. Up the road to the cave and in front of the cave itself are groups of monkeys waiting for visitors to give them food. If you like to feed them, you can buy food at one of the stalls in front of the cave. Take care of your belongings though, the monkeys are very cheeky and might go after your bag if they think there is food in it.
At the foot of the hill is a large temple complex called Wat Bunthawi, also called Wat Tham Klaep. Here you will find a very large sala that is used for various purposes and an ubosot.
Nearby the Khao Luang caves King Mongkut had a Palace build on top of a hill that is open to visitors, the Phra Nakhon Khiri Palace.

Khao Wang (Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park) - Phetchaburi - Thailand
Phra Nakhon Khiri (Thai: อุทยานประวัติศาสตร์พระนครคีรี) is a historical park in Phetchaburi, Thailand on a hill overlooking the city.[1] The name Phra Nakhon Khiri means 'holy city hill', but locals know it better as Khao Wang, meaning 'hill with palace'.
The park consists of three building groups on the three peaks of the 95 m hill.[1] On the western peak is the palace with adjoining structures. On the middle or central peak is a big chedi named Phra That Chom Phet. The eastern peak houses the Wat Phra Kaeo, the royal temple, built in similar fashion to the Wat Phra Kaeo in Bangkok. The whole complex was built as a summer palace by King Mongkut, with construction finished in 1860.
The site was registered as a historical park on 27 August 1979, with two of the palace buildings now housing a branch of the Thai National Museum.

History
Khao Luaang is the 92-meter-high and medium-sized mount. There is the large cave inside, called Tham Khao Luang, which is the famous cave among Thai and foreign tourists. The memo from European people in the past 100 year recorded that people who arrived at Petchaburi visit Khao Luang Cave. Moreover, the picture of the cave exists in the printed work of Henry Mouhot, a French naturalist who travelled to Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia, which was published in 1864.
