Thangal para || Vagamon || Gods Own Biker
Thangal para stands at a height of more than 2500 feet above the sea level near Vagamon hill range. This place can be reached via Vagamon which is well connected with Kottayam as well as Idukki. The Thangal para is a unique rock formation on top of a rocky hill which has some devotional and spiritual significance among devotees. It is believed that Sheikh Fariduddin, a Sufi saint from Afghanistan had lived and died here 800 years back. There is a huge spherical rock formation on top of the hill which the devotees believe that the saint was using for grinding Pan. After the death of the saint the rock started growing enormously and the tomb of the saint lies right in front of the huge rock.

Its a Trekker's Paradise !!
Basically a giant rock formation, considered sacred to Islam is located in the Thangal hill.
In the lower part of the rock is a small masjid and from there we have to climb up the rock which is a tedious task.
There are painted arrows showing the way and at the top a narrow pathway leads to Tomb of Sheikh Fariduddin, a Sufi saint from Afghanistan, who lived and died here about 800 years ago. With an elevated overview of the region and Mist playing hide n seek, the view from the rock is mind-blowing ...

പ്രശസ്തനായ സൂഫി പണ്ഡിതനായിരുന്ന ഷെയ്ഖ് ഫരീദ് 1179 ൽ മുൾട്ടാനിൽ നിന്നും പത്ത് കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയുള്ള കൊത്ത്‌വാൾ ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ ജനിച്ചു.
ഇസ്‌ലാം മത പ്രോബോധനവുമായി കേരളത്തിൽ എത്തുകയും വാഗമണ്ണിലെ ഈ പാറയുടെ മുകളിൽ പ്രാർത്ഥനക്കായി ചിലവഴിച്ചു എന്നുമാണ് ചരിത്രം .

Vagamon Meadows in Kerala, India
Vagamon, also spelt Wagamon, is a hill station located in Meenachil taluk and Kanjirappally taluk of Kottayam district and Peerumade taluk of Idukki district of the state of Kerala, India.
It has a cool climate, with the temperature between 10 and 23 °C during a summer midday. It is situated 1,100 metres above sea level.
History
Vagamon was used by the British for tea plantations and they were followed by Christian missionaries who built their abode of service at Kurisumala in Vagamon. National Geographic Traveler has listed Vagamon on their directory of the 50 most attractive places to visit in India.[1]

Still untouched by commercialisation, the sleepy town is surrounded by valleys, green meadows, pine forests, mists, fogs, tea estates, waterfalls and overall greenery.[citation needed] The landscape is mostly hilly bald with green meadows. Vagamon is also home to a variety of flowers and orchids. Three hills - Thangal, Murugan and Kurisumala hills - are the representation of the chief religions in Kerala, i.e. Hindu, Muslim, and Christian which represent the cultural harmony. Vagamon has amenities for trekking, paragliding, mountaineering and rock climbing. However, business interests are trying their best to exploit and sell and market Vagamon for tourists.[citation needed] How much benefit the local people are receiving from tourism boom is to be seen.[original research?] The efforts made by the Kurishumala Ashram have helped the farmers of Vagamon to improve their earnings by ensuring better prices for milk and marketing opportunities.[2] Vagamon also host the only Ultra Trail Marathon in Kerala, every January. It is organized by Soles of Cochin, a non-profit running Club.[3]

Vagamon is at the fringe of the Western Ghats and the foothills on its lower side reach up to Teekoy with a gradual descent. This narrow strip of descending land gives a vital connectivity to the plains as both sides of Vagamon up to Kuttikkanam on the south-west and Moolamattom on the north-east, are marked by steep and inaccessible hill slopes. Travelling by the hill highway in this section is an exhilarating experience,[original research?] with deep valleys and views all around. Reaching Vagamon itself involves traversing a meandering road that is cut into solid rock and lined with pine forests.

Vagamon meadows are also called as Vagamon Mottakkunnu. The spot located 6.5 km away from Vagamon town which lies in the border of Idukki and Kottayam.
There is an entry fee of 10 rupees per person and other extra charges for camera and video. Never mind having a walk through the hills of the spot. We won't feel tired as the climate in Vagamon is chilling. There is a lake in the center of Vagamon meadows. Seating for visitors is also perfectly placed all sides of the hills.
