IndiRekt & Raffael @ The 365 Calvari Steps Pollenca, Mallorca
When we climbed the 365 steps of Calvari Steps in Pollenca (Mallorca) there was a street musician sitting on top playing his guitar. I asked him if I could support him with my beatbox and he started singing and playing.
My spanish was horrible and he couldn't really understand me but Rafael was very happy and we both enjoyed this spontaneious session.
Music is a universal language.

Exploring the famous Calvari Steps in the picturesque town of Pollensa, Mallorca was a real treat. There are 365 of them and we met the happiest guitarist ever at the top!
The road of Calle de Calvari is a fairly steep stepped street that leads from the square of Clavari northwards to a small chapel nestled at the top of the hill known as Calvary. First a parade of people walk up the winding roads at the back of the hill till they reach the chapel at the top. This is followed by an enactment of the Stations of the cross (A depiction of the final hours – or Passion – of Jesus and the devotion commemorating the Passion), and then a mock crucifixion on the top of the hill. After this the figure of Christ is ceremonially removed from the cross and there is a rather sombre torchlit parading of the body of Christ down the Calvari steps and through the town.
You get hundreds of people wearing cloaks, pointed hats and masks walking along, and the whole thing is done in silence all but for the slow beating of a drum that sounds almost like a heartbeat. Although this is strictly a religious event, many people come from all around to the processions and ceremonies of this event, and a large screen is always set up in one of the squares in the town.
More from Pollensa:
Pollença, climbing the Calvari Steps (365 steps)
A must-see in Pollensa, the Calvari Steps is an ancient stone staircase leading from the central square up to a tiny church, called the Calvario Chapel. There are 365 steps in the staircase, which leads up to a lovely viewpoint.
The walk can be challenging but there are a few places to stop along the way and admire the view, including a couple of shops. The staircase is lined with cypress trees and the views from the top of the steps are simply amazing.
Once you have made your way back own the Calvari Steps you will find yourself back in Pollensa's main square, where there are plenty of cafes and bars to get some refreshments.
At Easter there is a dramatic religious procession that takes place around the Calvari Steps. This is a solemn occasion, including a re-enactment of the crucifixion followed by the figure of Christ being carried down the staircase. This procession attracts a large crowd of spectators each year.

A taste of Pollensa , El Calvari . Mallorca
Pollensa Old Town founded by the Catalans in the 13th century around 6km from the coast in order to avoid Pirate attacks is without any doubt one of the most attractive and beautiful areas of the island. Its stimulating configuration has always been the subject and motivation of painters from all over the world who have represented it in their canvases.
One of the icons of the old town Pollensa is “El Calvari” a mountain with 365 steps leading up to a little church at the top with a view of the entire municipality.
This is also where the famous easter procession takes place.
Pollensa Old Town also features many cultural interests such as the Roman Bridge, the “Puig de Maria“, the Parish Church, the main square, Saint Domingo’s Cloister and the museum of Pollensa.
Many of these things and more are what preserve the traditional architectural style of the town .

Estrella del Calvari - Luxury holiday villa in Pollença, Mallorca
Book online:
Overlooking the traditional town of Pollença in North Mallorca, you'll be wishing this was your view every morning at breakfast. Sitting right by the Calvari steps, the five bedroom property enjoys an elevated position above town and views that stretch out across the countryside.
Each of the five bedrooms has full length windows to make the most of the views but also makes the property bright and airy.
The villa is situated right next to one of Mallorca's most well known landmarks, the Calvari steps, which are 365 steps to a small chapel. These steps also host one of the most important events in the Easter calendar, the 'devallament'.
The style of the villa marries together traditional Mallorcan with contemporary.
