The Adventure Company - Cape Tribulation + Mossman Gorge
Last time I went to Cairns, I was hooked on all the activities and tours you can do there! This time I decided to tour with The Adventure Company, and through Experience Oz + Nz, I booked the Cape Tribulation and Mossman Gorge Day Trip and also added the Wildlife Habitat entry plus a delicious lunch.
We started the morning off at Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas and my goodness, I could easily spend hours there! It's a wildlife experience like no other, you are literally put in the zoo to mingle with the animals and there are plenty of them, birds, wallabies, kangaroos and lizards, just to name a few!
We then headed off to Mossman Gorge, although the conditions weren't quite right for swimming that day, the walk through the rainforest was absolutely beautiful and the water was crystal clear!
At Cape Tribulation we had a delicious lunch and were given some time to ourselves to walk along the beach and check out the surrounding rainforest. Unfortunately due to grey and cloudy weather conditions, landscape photos weren't too suitable but the beach itself is very nice and it was good to pack the camera away for a bit and enjoy what this beautiful part of Queensland had to offer!
We finished the tour with a one hour river cruise on the look out for some crocs. While we didn't spot the alpha male, we did spot a two metre croc along with some baby ones!
A lot of the day consisted of travelling in the bus to the locations, however the drive was very scenic and our guide, Daniel, had lots of local information to tell us along the way and made the trip exciting and full of laughs!

Cairns Travel Guide - An Australian Adventure
Cairns Travel Guide - An Australian Adventure
Cairns is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation in Tropical North Queensland, Australia. Cairns is a cosmopolitan city with a population of approx. 140,000 that is very focused on the tourist industry; particularly popular with international tourists. Japanese tourists are especially catered for, with many shops' signs being written in Japanese, as well as English. The city is surrounded by rainforest and can be used as a gateway to destinations such as Kuranda and the Daintree. Besides tourism, the city is supported by agricultural activities which include sugar cane, bananas, coffee, tea and the world's first tropical fruit wine region.
There is a lot of accommodation to suit all budgets with plenty of drinking establishments and restaurants catering to all types of tastes. The atmosphere is laid back and unpretentious, while prices are relatively inexpensive. There are a plethora of clubs and coffee shops in the city, all overflowing with international tourists which helps to give Cairns its cosmopolitan feel.
Cairns esplanade and The Pier market place are centrally located in the CBD. The retail district has something to offer visitors from anywhere in the world. There are plenty of cafés and shopping plazas and an expanding multicultural art scene. The city has a vibrant night life with restaurants offering fine dining with international cuisine from cultures all over the world. Staying at a 5 star hotel the city centre is a popular option for upscale tourists - though many upmarket tourists will go to Port Douglas instead. Cairns is a noted backpacker's hub, though, with plentiful and popular low-priced dorm-style accommodation.
There is no swimming beach to speak of in central Cairns (you will only find a mud flat if you head to the ocean), although there are many choices just north and south of the city. A large outdoor, lagoon-style pool is in the centre of the Cairns City area, which is very popular throughout the year with tourists and locals alike. If you are aiming to have a beach side resort holiday, there are several resorts a short drive north of Cairns.
Sightseeing charter tours can be booked from most major resorts, or (avoiding the travel agents) from the charter companies themselves. Cairns, as the largest city in the region, is a popular jumping-off point for exploring the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree National Park, as well as the Atherton Tablelands and the Queensland Outback.
Season: Peak tourist season is from around May to November and accommodation prices rise during this period. The wet season in Tropical North Queensland starts from December and the weather is wet and humid with high rainfall, in which Cape Tribulation and the Daintree are susceptible to flooding. Parts of the Daintree National Park are only accessible by 4WD during this time, but 4WD buses will take you there nonetheless.
Frequent Sunbus buses depart from the city centre to the suburbs and Northern Beaches. You can buy a 'daily' bus ticket that lasts until the last service that night. The last services heading back into the city are generally around 10pm - 11pm, while the last services out of the city are between 11pm and midnight.

What's Contiki?

The number of sunsets we’ve watched with best friends, the number of ancient landmarks we’ve visited, the number of times we’ve defied our comfort zone and done the extraordinary. Because we know you only get one life, one shot. So you better make it count.

Top 10 Things to Do in Cairns, Australia | Best Activities in Tropical North Queensland
What are the top 10 things to do in Cairns? What to do in Cairns? We answer these questions for you in this video! We show you the best things to do in Cairns! If you do any of the activities mentioned, make sure to comment below!
Here are the Top 10 Best Things to do from Cairns!
1. Walk on Cape Tribulation: This can be done via tour or you can rent a car and drive yourself (winding roads though). Make sure that you do NOT swim in the water during the summer months due to deadly box jellyfish, check online to see when it is safe to swim.
2. The curtain fig tree is a beautiful stop along the road and only about a two minute walk to get there from parking. For more information on how to get there and where it is located visit the link:
3. Snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef is a well known must do in Cairns! There are many different companies that will take you out to the reef, but after plenty of research we decided on Reef Experience because they included everything, including an introductory scuba dive (most companies charge big $$ for that) and a delicious lunch! They also go to two different reef locations which gives you an opportunity to see different types of corals and fishes! Check out their website for more information!
4. Paronella Park is a beautiful place but just watch out for the mosquitoes!! There is a inspiring and sad story about a dream then a tragedy of this place, if you want to find out more check out the website.
5. The Daintree Rainforest is the oldest living rainforest in the WORLD! Again watch out for those mosquitoes! There is lots of unique wildlife there! We were able to see a rare insect, a large spider, green ants, a dragon, and lots of flora and fauna. We did miss out on seeing a causeway though.
6. Scuba diving for the first time in the Great Barrier Reef was a mesmerizing experience! For more experienced scuba divers you may want to consider a scuba diving specialty boat (although snorkeling was amazing as well), but for those first time divers a great way to see the reef is through an introductory dive! Reef Experience made us both feel comfortable and didn’t pressure us to do anything. Highly recommend!
7. Millaa Millaa falls was extra strong while we were there due to the large rainfalls. You can swim at the falls but be aware of the the murky water at times and the strength of the waterfall. For information on Millaa Millaa and other falls check here:
8. Swim in a fresh clear creek! Apparently these are everywhere, all you have to do is venture one road away from the main highway (not sure which highway, but we were driving to the fig tree and Paronella Park that day)! These may not be easy to find but it is well worth the adventure if you do, thankfully our tour guide showed us the way!
9. Take a cruise along the Daintree River! We were able to see lots of crocodiles, including a very large one, a mama one (the one in the video), and lots of babies! There was also fish and many unique plants!
10. Watch the bats come out at dusk and fly over the city! This was such a crazy experience to see the sunset and watch as a clear sky was filled with thousands of bats flying overhead. They are only in certain locations in Cairns, but if you are in the CBD you will likely see them!

Ancient Daintree Rainforest | Cape Tribulation + Koalas & Crocs! | 2019 DYH Travel TV ~ Episode 3
In episode 3 of The Cairns Series we're road tripping from Cairns to Cape Tribulation, the only place in the world where two world heritage-listed attractions exist side by side - The Daintree National Park and The Great Barrier Reef. Thanks to The Adventure Company we now have these unforgettable memories of visiting the ancient Daintree Rainforest, the oldest continually surviving rainforest in the world estimated to be over 100 million years old! Hearing the history of what this rainforest has survived is phenomenal. While we usually like to do things a little differently at DYH Travel TV and a little more out there rather than be guided through our travels, the knowledge the crew had about the rainforest on this trip was mind blowing and put the power of nature into perspective for us!
You can't come to Australia and not hold a KOALA! The award winning Wildlife Habitat will tick off this bucket list item for sure! This stop in Port Douglas is included in the Adventure Company's Rainfoest Tour - Delux Pak.
Also included in your day:
Mossman Gorge - see the crystal clear waters of the Mossman River cascade over boulder formations at Mossman Gorge National Park.
Indulge in a chef prepared lunch and a cold beer just metres from Cape Tribulation Beach
Spend time chilling out where the Rainforest meets the Reef - Cape Trib Beach and take in the thought of being in a place that dates back 120 million years ago when dinosaurs roamed the jungle!
Daintree River Wildlife Cruise - 1 hr wildlife cruise and CROCODILES in their native habitat.
** This video is episode 3 of a series including 5 cast who had never met and didn't know any of the 8 day itinerary we had created for them so be sure to check out each episode, released weekly **
