The 'George Inn' - Bristol Pub, England
The George Inn:
Mid 19th Century pub near the top of the hill on Wells Road. Live music every Saturday night, quiz every Sunday, large function room with bar, pool and darts.
Pub:
A pub, or public house, is an establishment licensed to sell alcoholic drinks, which traditionally include beer (such as ale) and cider. It is a relaxed, social drinking establishment and a prominent part of British,[1] Irish,[2] Breton, New Zealand, Canadian, South African and Australian cultures.[3] In many places, especially in villages, a pub is the focal point of the community. In his 17th-century diary Samuel Pepys described the pub as the heart of England.[4]
Pubs can be traced back to Roman taverns,[5] through the Anglo-Saxon alehouse to the development of the tied house system in the 19th century. In 1393, King Richard II of England introduced legislation that pubs had to display a sign outdoors to make them easily visible for passing ale tasters, who would assess the quality of ale sold.[6] Most pubs focus on offering beers, ales and similar drinks. As well, pubs often sell wines, spirits, and soft drinks, meals and snacks. The owner, tenant or manager (licensee) is known as the pub landlord or publican. Referred to as their local by regulars, pubs are typically chosen for their proximity to home or work, the availability of a particular beer or ale or a good selection, good food, a social atmosphere, the presence of friends and acquaintances, and the availability of recreational activities such as a darts team, a skittles team, and a pool or snooker table. The pub quiz was established in the UK in the 1970s.[7]
Pub Chain:
A pub chain is a group of pubs or bars with a brand image. Pubs within a chain are tied houses and can, generally, only sell products which the chain owner sanctions. The brand owner, often called a pubco, may be one company, or there may be multiple financiers and, the chain, itself, may be a division within a larger company, or a single operation. Examples include Chef & Brewer, Wetherspoons, Walkabout, Taylor Walker Pubs and All Bar One. Pubs in the chain are typically branded with the same name, however the former Firkin pubs tended to be variations on a theme including the word Firkin in the title. Wetherspoons pubs have individual names, with the Wetherspoons brand prominently displayed....
Restaurant:
A restaurant (/ˈrɛstərənt/ or /ˈrɛstərɒnt/; French: [ʀɛs.to.ʁɑ̃] (About this sound listen)), or an eatery, is a business which prepares and serves food and drinks to customers in exchange for money. Meals are generally served and eaten on the premises, but many restaurants also offer take-out and food delivery services, and some offer only take-out and delivery. Restaurants vary greatly in appearance and offerings, including a wide variety of cuisines and service models ranging from inexpensive fast food restaurants and cafeterias to mid-priced family restaurants, to high-priced luxury establishments.
In Western countries, most mid- to high-range restaurants serve alcoholic beverages such as beer, wine and light beer. Some restaurants serve all the major meals, such as breakfast, lunch, and dinner (e.g., major fast food chains, diners, hotel restaurants, and airport restaurants). Other restaurants may only serve a single meal (e.g., a pancake house may only serve breakfast) or they may serve two meals (e.g., lunch and dinner) or even a kids' meal.
United States:
The United States of America (USA), commonly known as the United States (U.S.) or America (/əˈmɛrɪkə/), is a federal republic[16][17] composed of 50 states, a federal district, five major self-governing territories, and various possessions.[fn 6] Forty-eight states and the federal district are contiguous and located in North America between Canada and Mexico. The state of Alaska is in the northwest corner of North America, bordered by Canada to the east and across the Bering Strait from Russia to the west. The state of Hawaii is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific Ocean. The U.S. territories are scattered about the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, stretching across nine official time zones. The extremely diverse geography, climate and wildlife of the United States make it one of the world's 17 megadiverse countries.[19]
At 3.8 million square miles (9.8 million km2)[20] and with over 324 million people, the United States is the world's third- or fourth-largest country by total area,[fn 7] and the third-most populous. The capital is Washington, D.C., and the largest city is New York City; twelve other major metropolitan areas—each with at least 4.5 million inhabitants—are Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Riverside.

Inapub: inside the Galvin Brothers' Green Man, Chelmsford
Take a look inside Michelin starred Galvin brothers’ first country pub.
Essex-born brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin have extended their foray into pubs by opening a country local in Chelmsford, Essex.
The brothers completely transformed the formerly-derelict 14th century pub, investing heavily in the site.
After executive chef of Galvin Restaurants Warren Geraghty vocalised his passion for wanting to open a ‘proper british pub’, they found a site close to where the duo grew up in Felsted and got to work.
The pub will offer a ‘host a roast’ option on Sundays, where diners can carve their own Sunday lunch.
The dining room menu will offer dishes like Dedham Vale chateaubriand with béarnaise sauce & chips, Great Garnets farm sausages & mash and spiced Herdwick lamb flatbreads.
The pub will also offer cask and keg ales as well as hand picked wines.

Palmers Brewery People: Maltman Brian Wood
A tribute to one of the unsung heroes of British brewing -- malt deliverer Brian Wood.
Brian has been delivering sacks of malted barley to Palmers Brewery in Bridport, Dorset, for nearly 30 years. By hand, he's loaded and unloaded about 73,000 sacks. That's approximately 3,650 tonnes winched up from the back of his lorry into Palmers' malt loft.
'Brian Wood is a legend in his own lifetime,' says Palmers' head brewer Darren Batten. 'He's a good, honest, nice guy and he comes in and he gives us a brilliant service.'
Over the last three decades Brian has worked for breweries nationwide. Nowadays, from his home in Chelmsford, Essex, he delivers mostly to Palmers, Arkells in Swindon, Felinfoel near Llanelli, Harveys in Lewes, Elgoods in Wisbech, and Fullers in Chiswick.
'I absolutely love them,' says Brian.
'I've always been proud to be involved with the malt; I just enjoy my work.'
Brian is known for taking exceptional care of things. His lorry, for example, a DAF 1900, has done more than 1.5 million miles since he bought it new in 1988. It's specially fitted with an aluminium floor for the superior transport of malt.
Brian, his lorry and the whole process of malt delivery can be seen in this videdo.
One of Palmers' aims is to show what an extraordinary amount of often-unseen love and care goes into the making of quality real ale.
Darren says: 'People don't realise the love and care that goes into brewing a pint of beer and it's one of our greatest pleasures that so many people are sustained by the brewing industry. There are people that we've worked with 20, 30, 40 years, some of them, and it's great that we all appreciate that we are making a product our customers like and that all our suppliers are passionate about as well.'
Taking malt in sacks enhances quality. Darren says: 'We haven't got to blow malt across the brewery or put it up conveyor belts. All those handlings of malt damage the husk and the husk is very important in a traditional brewing mash tun like ours.
'Long may it continue' is Darren's wish -- and Brian's too.
'I don't ever see myself retiring,' says Brian. 'I feel good, I look after myself, I just want to keep on working.'
The other voice you can hear in the video is that of Jonathan Hudston, of Watershed PR, who shot and edited this piece.
Note: not all of the words quoted above are in the piece. People always say more than can be used in a short film!

At the heart of many communities, the pub brings people together from all walks of life.
From those who enjoy a quiet pint or a game of darts, through to celebrating weddings and sharing memories of friends and family – every pub has a tale to tell and here they are.
Championed by Greene King IPA, ‘To The Pub’ is a series of 50 pubs telling their own stories in their own words. Each film independently directed by the landlords, their staff and the locals that visit regularly. Capturing those unique moments we all recognise and love about our nation’s pubs.
We hope you enjoy the films as much as we do. Cheers.
You can visit The Rising Sun in person at 11 Sun St, Isleham, Ely, Cambridgeshire CB7 5RT
Greene King IPA is our flagship beer, born and brewed in Bury St Edmunds.
IPA stands for India Pale Ale, a style of ale brewed for export during the time of the Indian Raj (c. 1856). IPA was brewed with an unusually high volume of hops so they could preserve the ale during the long voyage to India. Funnily enough, though, our ale never made it to India. Perhaps we just didn't want to see it leave.
Many people are involved in bringing you Greene King IPA – from the farmers in the fields to the brewers back at the brewery and the landlords in the cellars. We're lucky to be surrounded by people who are passionate about what we do – and the quality of beers we craft together.
