NEAFP: Shearing on the Alpaca Farm

A few of the NEAFP team took a day off from the mill to help shear at Shelley & Chris Riley's alpaca farm, Golden Touch Farm in Westport, MA.

With the help of professional shearer Matt Best along with family & friends we were able to shear 74 alpacas in a single day, harvesting over 400 lbs of their amazing fiber.

Shearing alpaca fiber off the animal is the very first step as it begins it's journey through the U.S. manufacturing chain to ultimately become a finished product ready to be enjoyed by the masses!

As you can see in the end of the video, many of the alpacas were all celebrating having their winter coats removed while prancing along in the back fields.

Makhtesh Ramon crater in the NEGEV DESERT in Israel

Makhtesh Ramon is a crater in the Negev Desert in the south of Israel. We crossed this extreme landscape in our way from the Dead Sea to the city of Eilat. We explored the excellent visitor centre in Mitzpe Ramon town where you can learn about the history of this arid area.
Sleeping in a local farm in the middle of the desert (Alpaca farm) surrounded by lamas and alpacas was a good end to this wonderful trip.
