Yacht hit by tanker off Cowes, Isle of Wight
Whilst the Extreme Racing series was entertaining the crowds at this years' Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week, the supertanker hit a yacht which was then dismasted as its spinnaker sail was snagged by the ship's anchor.
The Marine Knutsen supertanker was being guided by a pilot boat into Southampton docks and was making its presence known by repeatedly sounding its horn. By one yacht didn't seem to give itself enough time to clear the massive boat and was hit before having its mast and rigging ripped off when one of its sail got caught in the supertankers anchor.
The yacht was quickly attended by several vessels offering assistance. It's not know if anyone was hurt.
The incident was captured by Tim Addison for COWES.co.uk

Paradox Trimaran 60' Cruiser/Racer in Dartmouth UK Designed by a Dartmouth company.
One of the most unique sailboats launched in the past five years. Paradox is a cruiser / racer trimaran designed by the legendary design team of Irens / Cabaret and constructed in carbon epoxy by Marsaudon Composites in Brittany. Built using the moulds of Loick Peyron’s highly successful ORMA racing trimaran Fujifilm, Paradox utilizes much of the same technology that made ORMA trimarans the most exciting sailboats on the water. Paradox’s design enables safe offshore passages and comfortable cruising with up to six people, but she can reach speeds of up to 30 knots when racing. Easily sailed shorthanded by two people or safely day-sailed with a dozen friends and family, Paradox is a unique, highly versatile sailboat.
Since launching in March 2010, her owner has done three Atlantic passages and cruised on Paradox in Brittany, Sardinia, Greece, the Caribbean, the Canaries, the Cape Verde islands, Bermuda, Newport, Maine, the Azores, Panama, and most recently, San Francisco. Paradox averages between 300 and 350 miles per day offshore, so she can make an Atlantic crossing in 7 – 10 days. Her advanced energy system includes solar panels, hydro-generator, and fuel cell that provide complete autonomy offshore without need for the engine. Her refrigerator, water-maker, hot water heater, shower, retractable anchor launching system and swim platform make Paradox a versatile and comfortable cruiser, while her hydraulic mainsheet and electric winches make sail handling effortless.
Paradox has a perfect racing record, with seven wins in seven regattas. During the 2013 Caribbean 600, Paradox beat the monohull course record set by Speedboat 100, and came within ten minutes of the multihull course record set by a racing ORMA trimaran.

Isle of Wight Ferry - Norris Castle - LCT Ferry
The Southampton Isle of Wight and South of England Royal Mail Steam Packet Company Limited was formed in 1861. The Company is the original operator to the Isle of Wight and has a distinguished and colourful history spanning over 146 years. The Company's famous house flag was derived from the names of four steamers that were in the newly merged fleet in 1861- Sapphire, Emerald, Ruby and Pearl.
The story began in the 1820's, when scheduled year-round Packet Services started operating between Southampton, Cowes, Ryde, Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour. Excursion Services were also a mainstay activity during those balmy Victorian and Edwardian summers with daily trips along the South Coast and across the channel to France. In the 1900's, the growing interest in travel provided the Company with an important string to its bow - the provision of tendering services to the great passenger liners.
Many would anchor in Cowes Roads and use Red Funnel's steamers for alighting passengers and transferring all kinds of cargo. In 1885 the Company expanded into Tug Ownership and continued to consolidate its market position throughout the wars. After World War II, recession and changing holiday habits led to the decline of the excursion business and preoccupation with the Southampton-Cowes packet services, particularly in light of growing car ownership and the transfer of cargo onto wheels. Diesel propulsion marked a turning point in the Company's history with the first purpose-built diesel vehicle ferries joining the fleet in the 1950's.
