John Singleton Copley
John Singleton Copley was an American painter, active in both colonial America and England. He was probably born in Boston, Massachusetts, to Richard and Mary Singleton Copley, both Anglo-Irish. He is famous for his portrait paintings of important figures in colonial New England, depicting in particular middle-class subjects. His paintings were innovative in their tendency to depict artifacts relating to these individuals' lives.

How it was made: Antony Gormley's Mother's Pride
“I’m asking you a question in material form. What is a human life? A human life is actually a process. It’s not a ‘thing’ at all.” - Antony Gormley
In this three-part series, we take you behind the scenes of our Antony Gormley exhibition to show how key works were made and reveal the stories behind them.
In this video, the first in the series, the RA’s Artistic Director, Tim Marlow, visits Antony Gormley in his studio where he and his studio team are working on the bread-based work 'Mother’s Pride V'.

Art Lending Collection at Braddock Carnegie Library
The Art Lending Collection, a project of the Braddock Carnegie Library, makes artworks by regional and international artists available for checkout to all patrons in Allegheny County with a library card. Art facilitators moderate artist talks, assist patrons in selecting artworks, and engage the diverse public in conversation about contemporary art, presenting contemporary art as a field with multiple histories, perspectives and points of access. The discourse that the program provides acts to nourish overall vibrancy of the Pittsburgh arts community, while fostering the transformative and transgressive interaction of individuals, artists, artworks and the world. A physical catalogue of the works included in the ALC exists in the Braddock library and, during the Carnegie International, at the Carnegie Museum of Art.

Atlantic Museum: Europe's first underwater museum opens in Spain
Some 200 life-size human figures, created over the course of two years by British sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, have been submerged 14 metres (46 feet) under the Atlantic Ocean, off the Canary Island of Lanzarote, in Spain.
The sculptures, some modelled after local residents, are made from environmentally friendly and pH-neutral materials and will attract plant and animal life, just like artificial reefs.
The artworks also include a 100-tonne, 30-metre (98 feet) long wall, a botanic garden and an installation called the Raft of Lampedusa, a sculpted boat carrying 13 refugees, which pays tribute to the ordeal of refugees who crossed the ocean during the recent migrant crisis.
According to the artist, the exhibition 'aims to create a strong visual dialogue between art and nature.'
