Make Your Mark: Home
We are from Smithton, Tasmania. We are a tight knit community, surrounded by rich farmland, rugged coastline and dense green bush. Everyone knows everyone, and we are always ready to come to each other’s aid, in good times and in crisis.
For this project about home, we explored ideas about what it is that makes us feel like we are ‘at home’. To describe our feelings we came up with words like: warmth, food, family, and bed. We then explored what it is that make us feel ‘at home’ even when we are not in our usual dwelling. We came up with words like: support, fence, wall, and safety.
We experimented with different materials: timber, sticks, bed linen and a tent. We set these up inside and outside, in nature and the built environment, to see what sort of feelings we had in different environments. We discovered that materials make us feel a certain way, because they trigger memories of feeling safe and supported by people that love and accept us.
For us, home is not just a place or a structure, but rather a combination of people, sights, smells, tastes and sounds all blended together to create our perfect sense of love and security.
Home can exist without some of these elements but not without all.

Tarkine Drive Tasmania
The Tarkine is a hidden treasure and a forgotten wilderness here in Tasmania, and as such, has always intrigued me. It is the greatest expanse of cool temperate rainforest in Australia, and the second largest in the world! 477,000 hectares actually.
We love heading off the beaten track and into places relatively unknown just like this.

The Tasmanian wilderness on the North West Coast is a perfect example of how diverse, beautiful, rugged and virtually untouched Tasmania truly is.
Cape Grim Tasmania | Breathing In | Angela Palmer | Artist
In April 2007 the artist Angela Palmer embarked on a journey to capture the physical properties of climate change. She travelled to the home of the most polluted air on Earth, Linfen in Shanxi Province, China, and to the place with the purest air and water on Earth, Cape Grim on the northwest tip of Tasmania. This video, from the Artist's exhibition Breathing In, is of her visit to Linfen.
Breathing In is on display at Wellcome Collection, 183 Euston Road, London NW1 2BE

12flyTV - Dorothy at Cradle Mountain National Park, Tasmania
Rising to 1,545 metres above sea level, Cradle Mountain is one of the principal tourist sites in Tasmania, all because of its unbeatable natural beauty and unique wildlifes. Cradle Mountain forms the northern end of the wild Cradle Mt - Lake St Clair National Park, itself a part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Icy streams cascading out of rugged mountains, stands of ancient pines mirrored in the still waters of glacial lakes and a wealth of wildlife ensure there is always something to captivate you.
