Welcome to World Ballet Day! On 2 October 2018 The Australian Ballet joined two of the leading ballet companies in a global live stream event to celebrate the art of ballet.
We’ve picked out the highlights from what was a spectacular day of ballet here at Ballet HQ in Melbourne.

The Australian Ballet School offers students from around Australia and internationally the opportunity to take part in The Australian Ballet School Scholarship Awards. The Scholarship Awards provide a pathway for students to display their artistic and technical abilities, through masterclasses and performance. In addition to the support provided by the prizes, this initiative is about coming together, participating with other like-minded students to advance skills, increase understanding and enthuse passion for ballet.

The Australian Ballet School’s Archival Footage - 1970s
On 7 March 2019, The Australian Ballet School was delighted to screen ‘Highlights from The Australian Ballet School’s Film Archive’. The film features never-seen-before training and rehearsal footage from the 1970s, including highlights of Graeme Murphy AO’s Papillon, and is produced by School musician Neil McNeill. This project has been made possible through the initiative and generous support of alumna and Patron Caroline Poon. The School invites alumni and supporters to share this film and if you can identify yourself in any of the footage or have related stories to share, please let us know via ask@australianballetschool.com.au.

Spotlight On Australian Ballet
As The Australian Ballet company celebrates its 50th anniversary this month we present this film revealing the roots of ballet in Australia and the story of the overseas dancers who brought their art to Australia. This encouraged the rise of local dancers who proved themselves adept in the classic ballets of Russia, France and Great Britain. It traces the birth of Australian choreography, decor and mounting with Australian dancers shown performing an Australian musical composition with Australian themes. Influential figures such as Edouard Borovansky, Tchinarova and Margot Stevenson are featured as well as the Borovansky Ballet, the Ballet Guild and the Bodenwieser Modern Expressive Ballet.
It is the history of ballet in Australia that ultimately lead to the formation of the prestigious and internationally recognised company The Australian Ballet. Hello, Between 20-24 May 2017 I went to see the Australian Ballet at the Sydney Opera House and Liverpool FC in Sydney.
I am a big Liverpool fan and seeing a sporting hero - Steven Gerrard play in Liverpool colours was a dream come true. While the Ballet at the Sydney Opera House was just beautiful.
