Baiterek Tower, Astana, kazakhstan
Bayterek Tower – Astana, Kazakhstan
Bayterek (Kazakh: Бәйтерек, Bäyterek, tall poplar [tree]) is a monument and observation tower in Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan. A tourist attraction popular with foreign visitors and native Kazakhs, it is emblematic of the city, which became capital of the country in 1997. The tower is located within on the Nurzhol Boulevard, and is considered a symbol of post-independence Kazakhstan.
The monument is meant to embody a folktale about a mythical tree of life and a magic bird of happiness: the bird, named Samruk, had laid its egg in the crevice between two branches of a poplar tree.
The 105m (344.5 ft.) tall structure rises from a wide flat base within a raised plaza. It consists of a narrow cylindrical shaft, surrounded by white branch-like girders that flare out near the top, supporting a gold-mirrored 22 m diameter sphere. The base contains a ticket booth and exhibition space, with two lifts rising within the shaft to the observation deck within the 'egg'. Entrances to the monument are sunk below eye level, reached by stairs from the surrounding plaza.
The observation deck is 97 m above ground level, corresponding to 1997, the year that Astana became the nation's capital. It consists of two levels, one with 360 degree views of Astana and beyond, with a second, higher level, reached by a flight of stairs. The top level features a gilded hand print of the right hand of Nursultan Nazarbayev, the first President of the independent Republic of Kazakhstan, mounted in an ornate pedestal. A plaque invites visitors to place a hand in the imprint and make a wish. Alongside the handprint, and also oriented in the direction of the presidential palace, is a wooden sculpture of a globe and 16 radiating segments, commemorating the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, held several times in Astana.

After the day had darkened, I came to the Sultan again. People are enjoying a leisurely evening. It is a building in the heart of the city. It was founded in 1997 as a commemoration of the transfer of the capital from Almaty. The 105-meter-high Byte Tower, which is also a symbol of the city, serves as an observatory in the city. As we climbed the top floor of the city through the elevator, the observatory is full of people. People are standing in line, posing, taking pictures of commemorative photos, and this is where the former president's hand printing resigned. I came here for the first time, and I look at the night view and raise my hand to the memorial of the former president. What do you think of the resignation of the president? It is time for the president to change and it will be all right. It is now President Kassim-Jomartokkaev who has changed. I hope there will be new changes with the new president.

Inside The Bayterek Tower Astana Kazakhstan August 2016
Downtown Astana Kazakhatan | Baiterek Tower and Nurzhol Boulevard
Nur-Sultan is the capital of Kazakhstan. Astana is its previous name. It has been renamed several times. Previous names include Tselinograd, Akmola, Astana, and Nur-Sultan. Kazakhstan is the world’s ninth-biggest country is the most economically advanced of the ‘stans’, thanks to its abundant reserves of oil and most other valuable minerals. This means generally better standards of accommodation, restaurants and transport than elsewhere in Central Asia. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the depressed agricultural town of Tselinograd was completely revamped and renamed Astana when President Nazarbayev unexpectedly named it Kazakhstan’s future capital in 1994. The transformation from small town to world-class capital has continued since Astana officially took on the job title in late 1997 and was renamed from Akmola to Astana in 1998. This ever-growing city – host to the Expo 2017 world fair – offers a glimpse into a town of tomorrow.

Nurzhol Boulevard (Green Water Boulevard) is the national boulevard of Kazakhstan, a pedestrian area in the new business and administrative centre on the left bank of Ishim river, in the capital, Nur-Sultan. The Boulevard is one of the main attractions of the city and country. Both Nurzhol Boulevard and the layout of the city were designed by renowned architect Kisho Kurokawa. The boulevard runs from the President's residence Ak Orda to the marquee shaped Khan Shatyr Entertainment Center (Хан Шатыр).
Along the boulevard there is a row of buildings designed by well-known domestic and foreign architects, including the city's most recognisable structure, the Bayterek.

Baiterek - a symbol of modern Astana
Kazakh legends have it that on the World River bank, there grows the Tree of Life, called Bayterek. Samruk the holy bird of happiness is flying to it to lay a golden egg in the nest, located on its top. The egg symbolizes the Sun, granting life and hope. The Bayterek monumental structure was opened in the very center of Kazakhstan capital in 2002. It ushered in a new stage in the people’s life, becoming a symbol not only of Astana, but also of the whole country.
