Baltimore's modern story began in 1729. It was named after Maryland founder, Cecil Calvert's, estate Baltimore Manor in Ireland. It grew around Port of Baltimore, a major hub for the exploding tobacco trade during the colonization period.Baltimore was a slave state and saw the first official casualty of the Civil War; but remained a critical part of the Union. In 1904, the Great Baltimore Fire destroyed more than 1,500 buildings in the city center, making way for an incredible revitalization of the city. Today, more than 2.8 million people call it home, making it the US's 21st most-populated city. Many legendary Americans were born here, like Frederick Douglas, Thurgood Marshall, and Nancy Pelosi. In this video, we feature the largest skyscrapers in Baltimore, like the Bank of America building, the M&T Bank Building, the Transamerica Tower, the Baltimore World Trade Center, the old IBM building, and the massive Charles Center district. We also highlight the iconic Bromo-Seltzer Arts Tower, George Washington Monument of Baltimore, and The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (the first Catholic cathedral built in the United States).

Baltimore, Maryland: 2019's Best Views Drone Video
Fort McHenry is the pentagonal bastion fort in the Baltimore, Maryland, Locust Point district. It is a national treasure, because it successfully defended Baltimore Harbor from an attack by the British navy from the Chesapeake Bay on September 13, 1814. The next morning, the fort flew a 30x42 feet American garrison flag, signaling victory and inspiring Francis Scott Key to write the poem 'Defense of Fort M'Henry' which was set to the tune 'To Anacreon of Heaven'. The song went on to be called 'The Star Spangled Banner' and now serves as the National Anthem of the United States. Today, thousands of tourists visit this historic site to see the real original flag which was hoisted in 1814 to signal America’s victory.
Baltimore's Inner Harbor is a historic neighborhood and seaport hailed as the model for post-industrial waterfront redevelopment around the world, in 2009 by Urban Land Institute. The economic devastation from World War Two left this area littered with abandoned factories and warehouses through the 1950s. A decade of initiatives from Mayors Thomas D'Alesandro and Theodore McKeldon revitalized the district by replacing the dilapidation with waterfront parks and surrounding hotels and business headquarters. Today, it is a bastion of culture with music and art, recreation and sailing.
The 71,000 seat M&T Bank Stadium is home to the NFL's Baltimore Ravens. It was built in 1999 with a price-tag of 220 million and features statues honoring legends Johnny Unitas and Ray Lewis. The 46,000 seat Orioles Park at Camden Yards is home to the MLB's Baltimore Orioles. It was built in 1992 for $110 million and, instead of destroying the B&O Warehouse it replaced, this building was incorporated into the design. Here, Cal Ripken Jr played his 2,131st consecutive game and Eddie Murray hit his 500th home run.
This one-acre museum housing more than 67,000 square feet of exhibition space features more than 4,000 permanent pieces of ‘outsider art’. It is an American icon. The museum’s founder, Rebecca Hoffberger, converted this shuttered copper paint factory and whiskey warehouse into a cultural mecca of art brut. It is now designated as America’s National Museum for Self-taught Art by the U.S. Congress. AVAM hosts annual mega-exhibitions which bring together artists from all across the United States and abroad to showcase absolutely unique expression pieces centered around a grand-theme.

Here is a video of Baltimore, which is in the state of Maryland located in the United States. Enjoy in HD. Please subscribe :) !
Baltimore is the largest independent city in the United States and the largest city and cultural center of the U.S. state of Maryland. The city is located in central Maryland along the tidal portion of the Patapsco River, an arm of the Chesapeake Bay. Baltimore is sometimes referred to as Baltimore City in order to distinguish it from surrounding Baltimore County. Founded in 1729, Baltimore is the largest U.S. seaport in the mid-atlantic and is situated closer to major Midwestern markets than any other major seaport on the East Coast. Baltimore's Inner Harbor was once the second leading port of entry for immigrants to the United States and a major manufacturing center. The harbor is now home to Harborplace, a shopping, entertainment, and tourist center, and the National Aquarium in Baltimore. According to Forbes, the city of Baltimore was rated 3rd best place to shop in 2010. After a decline in manufacturing, Baltimore shifted to a service-oriented economy. Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Hospital are now the city's largest employers.
As of 2009, the population of Baltimore was 637,418. The Baltimore Metropolitan Area has approximately 2.7 million residents; the 21st largest in the country. Baltimore is also the largest city in the surrounding associated combined statistical area of approximately 8.4 million residents.
The city is named after Lord Baltimore in the Irish House of Lords, the founding proprietor of the Maryland Colony. Baltimore himself took his title from a place in Bornacoola parish, County Leitrim and County Longford, Ireland. Baltimore is an anglicized form of the Irish Baile an Tí Mhóir, meaning Town of the Big House, not to be confused with Baltimore, County Cork, the Irish name of which is Dún na Séad.
The city has architecturally important buildings in a variety of styles. The Baltimore Basilica (1806--1821) is a neoclassical design by Benjamin Latrobe, and also the oldest Catholic Cathedral in the United States. In 1813 Robert Cary Long, Sr. built for Rembrandt Peale the first substantial structure in the United States designed expressly as a museum. Restored, it is now the Municipal Museum of Baltimore, or popularly the Peale Museum. The McKim Free School founded and endowed by John McKim, although the building was erected by his son Isaac in 1822 after a design by William Howard and William Small. It reflects the popular interest in Greece when the nation was securing its independence, as well as a scholarly interest in recently published drawings of Athenian antiquities.
The Phoenix Shot Tower (1828), at 234.25 feet (71.40 m) tall, was the tallest building in the United States until the time of the Civil war. It was constructed without the use of exterior scaffolding.

Basilica Restore the Light Papal Endorsement - 2001
Baltimore Basilica - Restore the Light - Endorsements
Baltimore, Maryland
Restoration Plan
The Basilica of the Assumption was dedicated on May 31, 1821 as one of the most architecturally original cathedrals in the world and heralded a new movement in cathedral building. Today, it is considered one of the finest 19th Century buildings in the world and Latrobes masterpiece.
Among the most extraordinary features of the Basilica is the Great Dome that was originally a source of light together with original windows of plain glass. Twenty-four skylights ringed the outer dome providing natural light for the entire building. Light filtered indirectly through the oculus of the inner dome creating what Latrobe called lumiere mysterieuese. In 1904, the exterior dome was covered with gold leaf which lasted for 20 years. It was subsequently replaced by copper. By 1943, the deteriorating window frames and heavy glass of the outer dome had to be removed and the opening was closed.
One of the major objectives of the restoration plan is to restore the skylights in accord with Latrobes original design. In addition, the other major highlights of the cathedral are its Byzantine towers, its portico, its extraordinary crypt built for the Archbishops of Baltimore, French bells and other interior spaces.
The Basilica of the Assumption Historic Trust has retained a master restoration team. The team is comprised of John G. Waite Associates, the firm which was involved in the restoration of Mt. Vernon, the Rotunda at the University of Virginia, Monticello, and other historic places and early 19th Century historic buildings in the United States as well as Beyer Blinder Belle Architects and Planners, who led, among other significant projects, the monumental efforts to restore Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration in Hoboken, N.J. and Grand Central Terminal in New York City.
Key features of the preservation will include restoring the skylights in accord with their original design, restoring the roof, providing better access to the Basilica lighting, adjusting liturgical requirements, especially in the sanctuary area, as well as heating, plumbing, air conditioning and other essential features of the Basilica.

USA : POPE HOLDS OPEN AIR MASS IN BALTIMORE
English/Nat
The pope has led tens of thousands of Americans in an open-air mass in Baltimore on Sunday, the final day of his U-S visit.
During his five-day trip, Pope John Paul II spoke against the breakdown of traditional family life and the widening gap between rich and poor in America.
The poverty gap is a sensitive issue in a country where the religious right is talking of cutting back America's welfare spending.
The final leg of the pope's U-S tour was a one-day visit to Baltimore - dubbed the cradle of American Catholicism. The first Roman Catholic diocese in the United States was established in this state.
The plane touched down over twenty minutes late at Baltimore-Washington International Airport on Sunday morning.
But for two patient young members of the welcoming committee it was worth the wait.
Nine-year-olds Melissa Brent and Justin Farinelli had brought the pope black-eyed Susans, the state flower.
Then it was a short drive to Oriole Park at Camden Yards where the pope celebrated an open air mass.
An estimated 50-thousand people gathered at the stadium for the papal Mass. Many had been queuing since dawn - ample time for the entrepreneurial spirit to get to work.
Those selling mementos of the Pontiff's visit found a captive market at Camden Yards.
For America's Catholic community the Papal visit was long overdue.
SOUNDBITE: Vox pop
I think he is such a special person, he brings a specialness to the Church, I only am positive, I think he's absolutely wonderful. When he comes to our country everyone says Oh My God but there's something about that man, so that's just something good for us.
SUPER CAPTION: Woman attending event at Camden Yards
While the pope has a huge following worldwide, many Americans are sensitive to the dilemmas facing Roman Catholics in the 1990s.
SOUNDBITE: Vox pop
I think Americans are caught between trying to exert what they believe in their heart with something that's come down through history and it's a really difficult decision for many Catholics in the United States to make, as to whether they're going to follow the strict teachings of the Church or do as their consciences direct.
SUPER CAPTION: Man attending event at Camden Yards
The pope had a busy day ahead in Baltimore. After celebrating the open-air mass he was scheduled to parade through the city centre and visit a soup kitchen run by a Catholic Charities programme.
