Bananas in Ecuador - AMAZING BANANA DISHES | Where to Eat in Quito
Bananas are a big deal in Ecuador. They export more bananas than any other country, and they have a bunch of delicious banana dishes. In this video I am talking about bananas in Ecuador and hitting the streets to try the unique dishes in Ecuador that feature banana or plantain. From Fried banana with cheese to a seafood soup with a giant ball of fried banana in it. Bolon de verde, tigrillo, caldo de bolos de verde, maduro con queso, it's all bananas! B-A-N-A-N-A-S!
Where to eat in Quito - Banana dishes
Look for Bolon de Verde to start off with. It's a tennis ball sized ball of green banana that's stuffed with fried pork, or cheese, or both. You can find these all over the city.
If you want to try the soup version that I eat in the video, check out Ecuaviche ( It's called caldo de bolos de verde. It'll set you back $10.50, but it was incredible and there might not be a better place to get this dish in the entire world.
Also, watch for street food vendors grilling up bananas on the street. Some might even be filling them with cheese. You can also get this snack (and bolon de verde) at Jama ( a place that specializes in green banana cooking. That being said, the stuff on the street will probably be better.
For the very best bolon de verde, you'll have to get my guide.

How Do Bananas Grow and End Up in the Store?
How do bananas go from a farm to your table? Inside Edition traveled to Ecuador, the world's largest exporter of bananas, to learn about how the fruit is grown. It takes nine months for bananas to grow to their full size. During that time, they are covered in plastic bags to protect them from any nasty critters. The Inside Edition bananas spent two weeks at sea before they arrived at a snowy port in Red Hook, Brooklyn.

A Tour of the Tagum Banana Plantation in Davao
Part of the tour of Davao for Canada- and US-based media is the visit to the banana plantation of Tagum Resources Agri Industries Inc., or TRAIN, one of the largest producers of bananas in the Philippines. Here, bananas are processed, from the plantation to the packing plant, and readied for delivery to stores. Here's a film footage of that visit in February 2018, courtesy of the Philippine Department of Tourism New York.

Ecuador: ¿el fin del plátano? | Global 3000
