A trip on The Battlefield Line.
A video from my visit to the Battlefield Line in Leicestershire.
The Battlefield Line runs from Shackerston to Shenton with an intermediate station at Market Bosworth and we travel beind Great Western Railway Hall No. 6989 Wightwick Hall which was visiting from the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre.
Near Shackerston Station we see the Ashby de la Zouch Canal, at Shenton we're close to the field where the Battle of Bosworth took place. We also see glass being made at Shenton Glass. At Market Bosworth we find the old station building is a car dealership which even has a Ford Sierra Estate.

The Battlefield Line
The Shakerstone Railway in Leicestershire UK run by a preservation society. I have many happy memories of this area of England having lived there for many years. Shakerstone was just a stone's throw from where I lived in Caldecote and often just at the week end I would ride out there and meander round the Fen Lanes.

The Battlefield Line | '50th Anniversary Gala' | 19/10/2019
Another year, another line, another milestone. The Battlefield Line is now celebrating it's 50th year in preservation, and to mark the occasion they held a three day Gala over the weekend of the 18th - 20th of October 2019.
With three loco's in action running an intensive timetable including double headers and demonstration goods trains there was plenty going on at this little talk about line in the Leicestershire countryside.
Locomotives Included:
- Modified Hall Class 6968 'Wightwick Hall' from Buckinghamshire Railway Centre
- Manor Class 7820 'Dinmore Manor' from the Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Railway.
- Small Prairie Tank 5542 (resident)
All be it a very GWR heavy line up on this former Midland route, the Gala still had a feel to it, and the weather also helped in that respect. Hope you enjoy!

BATTLEFIELD LINE WINTER WARMER STEAM GALA 4th JANUARY 2020
“Some bright periods” is Met Office speak for “Mainly cloudy”. So it was on Saturday January 4th, the first day of The Battlefield Line Winter Warmer Steam Gala and my first outing of 2020. Working the through trains were 6989 Wightwick Hall, pronounced Witick, and small Prairie 5526. The ‘local’ train was worked by 5542 coupled to a two car DMU, unorthodox perhaps but effective as it provided power at both ends. Time keeping throughout the day was immaculate although I can’t speak for the last two trains of the day as I was heading home.
For those who are unaware, the line takes its name from the reputed site of the Battle of Bosworth, 1485, during which King Richard III was killed and his crown passed to Henry VII thereby commencing the Tudor dynasty. In 2012 Richard's remains were found in Leicester at the site of Greyfriars Friary and after confirmation of the facts he was buried in Leicester Cathedral in 2015. End of history lesson!
Battlefield Line 50th Anniversary Gala 2019
A celebration of 50 years of the Battlefield Line Railway, with three visiting GWR locomotives, 5542, 7820 DINMORE MANOR and 6989 WIGHTWICK HALL making its first visit away from Quainton since restoration and also its first trains on a longer line. I didn't plan to video at this gala but I had a new microphone delivered for my camera so this was a test of the new gadget.
