Tennesse: Nashville
Nashville is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Tennessee.
Named for Francis Nash, a general of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, the city was founded in 1779.
Nashville is home to numerous colleges and universities, such as Tennessee State University and Vanderbilt University.
In 1868, a few years after the Civil War, the Nashville chapter of the Ku Klux Klan was founded by Confederate veteran John W. Morton. Chapters of this secret insurgent group formed throughout the state and the South.
On April 30, 1892, Ephraim Grizzard, an African-American man, was lynched in a spectacle murder in front of a white mob of 10,000 in Nashville. His lynching was described by journalist Ida B. Wells as: A naked, bloody example of the blood-thirstiness of the nineteenth century civilization of the Athens of the South.
By the turn of the century, Nashville had become the cradle of the Lost Cause of the Confederacy. The first chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy was founded here, and the Confederate Veteran magazine was published here. Most guardians of the Lost Cause lived Downtown or in the West End, near Centennial Park.
In 1960 Tennessee still had racial segregation of public facilities, including lunch counters and department store fitting rooms.
In 1979, the Ku Klux Klan burnt crosses outside two African-American sites in Nashville, including the city headquarters of the NAACP.
Since the 1970s, the city and county have undergone tremendous growth, particularly during the economic boom of the 1990s.
Nissan Stadium (formerly Adelphia Coliseum and LP Field) was built after the National Football League's (NFL) Houston Oilers agreed to move to the city in 1995.
In 1997, Nashville was awarded a National Hockey League expansion team; this was named the Nashville Predators.
In 2017, Nashville's economy was deemed the third fastest-growing in the nation.
Nashville's downtown area features a diverse assortment of entertainment, dining, cultural and architectural attractions. The Broadway and 2nd Avenue areas feature entertainment venues, night clubs and an assortment of restaurants. North of Broadway lie Nashville's central business district, Legislative Plaza, Capitol Hill and the Tennessee Bicentennial Mall. Cultural and architectural attractions can be found throughout the city.
As the city's name itself is a metonym for the country music industry, many popular tourist attractions involve country music, including the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Belcourt Theatre, and Ryman Auditorium. The Ryman was home to the Grand Ole Opry until 1974 when the show moved to the Grand Ole Opry House, 9 miles (14 km) east of downtown.
Each June, the CMA Music Festival (formerly known as Fan Fair) brings thousands of country fans to the city. The Tennessee State Fair is also held annually in September.
The Contemporary Christian music industry is based along Nashville's Music Row.

About This Video : Some friends and I attended the multi-million dollar Millhouse Collection Auction in Boca Raton, Florida in February 2012, and during our tour of the amazing and very modern two level office building that housed the Millhouse brothers unique collection of vintage cars, music machinery and other rare oddities, we stumbled upon this very funky looking jukebox machine that to our utter surprise, also showed video content with the music.. Had we just discovered the precursor to today's modern internet video jukebox machines?
We originally guessed this machine was from the 60's, but after looking at a manual we found on top of the machine, which was copyrighted in 1978, we were surprised that our guess was so off - Until we searched online for Scopitone, and confirmed our original guess (from the 60's) was correct.
Scopitone jukeboxes are the 1960s ancestors of today's modern music video jukebox machines, with music content distributed on color 16mm film with a magnetic soundtrack, The first Scopitones were made in France in 1960, and the Scopitone craze spread throughout Europe (particularly in West Germany and England) before crossing the Atlantic to the United States in mid-1964.
By the end of the 1960s, they were gone.

From the Wikipedia entry for Scopitone : Scopitone is a type of jukebox featuring a 16 mm film component. Scopitone films were a forerunner of music videos. The Italian Cinebox/Colorama and Color-Sonics were competing, lesser-known technologies of the time.
Based on Soundies technology developed during World War II, color 16mm film clips with a magnetic soundtrack were designed to be shown in a specially designed jukebox.
Between 1940 and 1946, three-minute musical films called Soundies (produced in New York City, Chicago, and Hollywood) were displayed on a Panoram, the first coin-operated film jukebox or machine music. These were set up in nightclubs, bars, restaurants, and amusement centers.
The first Scopitones were made in France, by a company called Cameca on Blvd Saint Denis in Courbevoie near Paris, among them Serge Gainsbourg's Le poinçonneur des Lilas (filmed in 1958 in the Porte des Lilas Métro station), Johnny Hallyday's Noir c'est noir (a cover of Los Bravos' Black Is Black) and the Hully Gully showing a dance around the edge of a French swimming pool.
Scopitones spread to West Germany, where the Kessler Sisters burst out of twin steamer trunks to sing Quando Quando on the dim screen that surmounted the jukebox. Scopitone went on to appear in bars in England, including a coffee bar in Swanage where Telstar was a favourite. By 1964, approximately 500 machines were installed in the USA.
Several well-known acts of the 1960s appear in Scopitone films, however, ranging from the earlier part of the decade The Exciters (Tell Him) and Neil Sedaka (Calendar Girl) to Procol Harum (A Whiter Shade of Pale) later on. In one Scopitone recording, Dionne Warwick lay on a white shag rug with an offstage fan urging her to sing Walk On By. Another had Nancy Sinatra and a troupe of go-go girls shimmy to These Boots Are Made for Walkin'. Inspired by burlesque, blonde bombshell Joi Lansing performed Web of Love and The Silencer, and Julie London sang Daddy against a backdrop of strippers. The artifice of such scenes led Susan Sontag to identify Scopitone films as part of the canon of Camp in her 1964 essay Notes on 'Camp'.
By the end of the 1960s, the popularity of the Scopitone had faded.
The last film for a Scopitone was made at the end of 1978. However, in 2006 the French singer Mareva Galanter released several videos which mimic the Scopitone style. Galenta's album Ukuyéyé features several songs in the French Yé-yé style. She also recently hosted a weekly French television program called Do you do you Scopitone on the Paris Première channel.
As of the mid-2000s, one of the few Scopitones not in a museum or private collection in the United States was located at the Belcourt Theatre in Nashville, Tennessee. Many Scopitone films have been released on DVD or made available on the internet.

Mayor Megan Barry, Biography
Megan Barry is the seventh mayor of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County. Her election in the Sept. 10, 2015, runoff, after receiving the most votes in the Aug. 6 general election, represents a historic milestone as she is the first female mayor of Nashville.
Barry's election is also historic in that she is the first Metro Council member to ascend to the office of mayor. First elected in the runoff election of 2007 for the position of Council at-large, Barry went on to receive the most votes of the five winning at-large candidates in 2011.
While on the Council, Barry was a leader in promoting a progressive, pro-business agenda. She created the first fair wage law for Metro employees, sponsored an ordinance to prohibit discrimination against LGBT employees, and maintained a 100 percent rating for the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce throughout her eight-year tenure.
Barry's focus as mayor will be on improving the educational outcomes at our public schools, engaging regional and state partners to develop a unified vision and plan for transportation, creating more affordable housing options for residents of all backgrounds, and continuing to grow our economy while ensuring all parts of Davidson County share in the prosperity.
Born in California while her father was stationed at the El Toro Marine Corps base, Barry grew up in Overland Park, Kan. She graduated from Notre Dame de Sion, a Catholic girls' high school in Kansas City, and she received her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Baker University, a Methodist college in Baldwin City, Kan. She moved to Nashville in 1991 to attend Vanderbilt University. She received her MBA from Vanderbilt's Owen School in 1993.
Professionally, Barry has almost two decades of experience as a corporate executive, including several years developing and managing ethics programs for a global telecommunications firm, and most recently in the role of ethics and compliance officer for Premier, Inc., a health care company. She has also worked as an independent consultant to firms on issues dealing with business ethics and corporate social responsibility.
Barry has played an active role in civic life, having served on the boards of the Center for Nonprofit Management, the YWCA, the Belcourt Theatre and the Nashville Repertory Theatre, and as an advisory board member for the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition. She is a past participant in Leadership Nashville and Leadership Music, has co-chaired the Center for Nonprofit Management's “Salute to Excellence” event, honoring the hard work of all who serve our community, and has co-chaired the Conexión Américas annual “El Cafecito” breakfast in 2013.
Megan Barry is married to Bruce Barry, a professor of organization studies at Vanderbilt. Their son, Max, is a junior in college, and they share their home with two rescue dogs, Hank and Boris.
