Church bells in England
Activating church bells on Boxing Day 2004 in Dundry, Somerset, near Bristol
Ultimate (1999 Analogue POV) - Lightwater Valley Theme Park
The Ultimate at Lightwater Valley was the longest roller coaster in the world when it opened in 1991 and is a really odd ride, a coaster of two halves, the tame and scenic first half and the wild 'valley run' second half. This is archive analogue footage from 1999 that shows just how crazy this ride is through the valley section...so pleased I rode it without OTSRs. Designed by Big Country Motioneering, it was workers from British Rail who actually built it.

Benjamin Bowmaneer
I have had this video sitting around for a while. The folk songs don't seem to go down as well as the pop songs, but here goes.
I took this song from The Penguin Book of English Folk Songs (1959). The notes in the collection read:
In folklore, the tailor seldom plays a noble part, perhaps because his profession does not call for lustihood. 'Nine tailors make a man', says the proverb, and a popular children's rhyme tells of four and twenty tailors frightened by a snail. The amusing 'Benjamin Bowmaneer' seems to perpetuate the
folks' injustice to men of an honourable trade. Perhaps the song has a secondary, satirical meaning that eludes us? It has been suggested that 'Castors away' may mean 'Hats off', the castor being a slang word for a beaver hat, or by extension, any headgear. It may also mean 'Cast us away!', and thus be related to a sailor's song. The tune's resemblance to the 'Spanish Ladies' melody, much used for sea-song texts, would seem to strengthen this possibility. We have not found a set of this song complete with tune elsewhere. [Ralph Vaughan Williams and A.L. Lloyd].
A Castor was, indeed a beaver skin hat - like a short, waterproof Top hat. See Brewster's Dictionary of Phrase & Fable and my feeling is that Castors Away (Not Cast us Away) is the intention here. That is, a sarcastic Salute or Hats off to the ignoble tailor.
Also, nine tailors make a man may derive from the fact that, on the death of a man, the church bell rang nine tells, (three sets of three), whereas if a woman died it was six tells (three twos). Thus nine TELLERS make a man, later corrupted to nine tailors. This is only a possibility, but a tempting one.
The song belongs to a family of stories about tailors' misadventures. It has notable features in common with a more widespread song, The Tailor and the Louse, which is ultimately of broadside origin (mid 17th century). It may be an adaptation of that song, or an independent piece; it is not really known. Similar ideas occur in a number of other, unrelated songs, like The Jolly Rogues of Lynn. The Ignoble professions in this are the Miller, Weaver and the Tailor.
The first identified collection of this song had been noted by Mary E. Spence from the singing of her great-aunt, Sarah Foster of Sedburgh, Yorkshire, and was first published in the Journal of the English Folk Dance and Song Society (vol.I, no.2, 1933). Mary Spence wrote:
She (my great-aunt) learned it from a travelling tailor who came to mend her father's clothes, probably between 1804 and 1807. The story she told her nephew (my father) was that she listened outside the window of the room where the tailor worked, ran away to practice what she had heard, and then returned for more. I learned the song by hearing my father and eldest sister sing it, who both had it from the fountain-head, so to speak. I am sure both copied the great-aunt faithfully, as it was performed with a rather nasal twang and several little kinks and turns, especially before the last note; also a cousin who had it from his mother makes no variation in his rendering. Some years ago I wrote it down for the interest of it.
Have you heard how the wars began, Benjamin Bowmaneer?
Have you heard how the wars began, Castors away?
Have you heard how the wars began, when England fought to a man,
And the proud tailor rode prancing away?
Of his shear board he made a horse, Benjamin Bowmaneer
Of his shear board he made a horse, castors away
Of his shear board he made a horse, All for him to ride across.
And the proud tailor rode prancing away
Of his scissors he made bridle bits, Benjamin Bowmaneer
Of his scissors he made bridle bits, castors away
Of his scissors he made bridle bits, to keep his horse in its wits
And the proud tailor rode prancing away
And as he rode o'er the lea, Benjamin Bowmaneer
And as he rode o'er the lea, castors away
And as he rode o'er the lea, he spied a flea all on his knee
So the proud tailor rode prancing away
Of his needle he made a spear, Benjamin Bowmaneer
Of his needle he made a spear, castors away
Of his needle he made a spear, to prick the flea all in his ear
So the proud tailor rode prancing away
Of his thimble he made a bell, Benjamin Bowmaneer
Of his thimble he made a bell, castors away
Of his thimble he made a bell, to ring the flea's funeral knell
So the proud tailor rode prancing away
It was thus how the wars began, Benjamin Bowmaneer
It was thus how the wars began, castors away
It was thus how the wars began, when England fought to a man
And the proud tailor rode prancing away
This Beautiful Village Has No Road? Giethoorn Village - Amsterdam - Netherlands- JC's Fun World
Amsterdam is the Netherlands’ capital, known for its artistic heritage, elaborate canal system and narrow houses with gabled facades.
Giethoorn is located 121 kilometers (75.19 Miles) away from Amsterdam. By public transport will take 2 to 2.5 hours. Its incredibly tranquil atmosphere, the village, located on the border with Germany, offers the ultimate getaway from the noise of the city.
This village has no roads, and the only way access is by water over the many beautiful canals or on foot over its wooden arch bridges.

#97 Wanderings Around West Sussex
It’s August Bank Holiday Monday in the UK which finds my buddy Al and I doing a little Road Trip in his Camper Van around the beautiful County of West Sussex. We first visit The National Trust Property and Grade 1 Listed Building of Standen House near East Grinstead before driving across the ancient Ashdown Forest. Our final destination is the Village of West Hoathly where we visit the Medieval St Margaret’s Church, The Cat’s Inn Pub for a quick drink and a then a welcome return to The Priest House, a 15th Century Wealden Hall House owned and managed by Sussex Past where I conducted a paranormal investigation with my ‘Spiral Paranormal’ Team back in 2011.

I RODE BARBIE AND BELL FOR THE FIRST TIME | OTD VLOG
This is a milestone moment! My baby girls went off to big girl school and came back so grown up! I am so proud of them for how well behaved they have been in the backing process and how well they looked after me as it was only their 3rd time in the arena. Also, I am massively grateful to Tim Rusbridge Eventing, Breaking & Pre-Training and his team for doing such an amazing job. The care and time put into the horses are second to none. Also, I have left the 'not so perfect' part in as I want people to see the reality of baby horses.
It's amazing as well to look back on Joey and Moley's backing video (Link below) and to see how far they have come on.
I rode the girls at home for the first time today and they were amazing. They will now be having 2 months off to grow and mature after this process.

I Rode a Horse to Prom!
So, I've introduced General before - the adorable cob that I helped train at my old yard, who was then sold to my best friend? - Well he had his moment of fame on Friday 1st July for my end-with-a-bang entrance to my schools Summer Ball. He was a saint, putting his best hoof forward. I had such a blast, and I also didn't die - which was a bonus!
Many thanks General-ee for being the ultimate super-cob.
Ride to the Wall 2016
On October 1st 2016, almost 7000 bikers from the United Kingdom and beyond rode to the National Memorial Arboretum in Burton-on-Trent to pay their respects to those who have lost their lives in the service of their country. The weather was horrid with torrential rain for most of the day but nothing could dampen the spirits of the many riders, pillion passengers and others who attended.

Elyas Khan is an art/rock composer and performer. Drawing from his UK-Indian/Pakistani heritage and creative upbringing in the NYC art, music & theatre scene, he traverses global musical routes as a sort of poetic trader: producing music of the awakening streets from New York to Mumbai, Berlin to Casablanca. His primal instrumentals, ancient vocals, electronic chaos, and bass heavy grooves generate music as at home beside classics like Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart as it is with contemporaries like Animal Collective and Bjork

His latest project 'Brawl in Paradise' sees Elyas stepping away from his band Nervous Cabaret (Naive Records, FR) and creating a solo album. Elyas explains, lyrically, I was receiving, decoding, and expounding on messages of change, conflict, possibility and empathy. Brawl In Paradise looks at the linguistic, economic and political manipulations surrounding progress in a world experiencing unprecedented volumes of human transmission. I see myself as a poetic story teller and am thankful for invaluable inspiration from the likes of Arundhati Roy, Aldous Huxley and the poetry of EE Cummings, among many others. At the same time, I needed Brawl In Paradise to pump out the funk noir hooks that resonate within me. Musical inspiration came from far and wide: the freak folk of Animal Collective to Sun Ra to Yoko Ono. From my studio at the top of the former East Berlin Radio Station HQ, I would stare out over the entire city of Berlin with all my instruments, found objects, electronic devices, microphones, 4 tracks and preamps turned on and rolling.
The initial recording sessions were listened to over and over. Creating and recording layer upon layer I then stripped these sections down to their musical DNA and matched them with my other sound experiments. Much was captured in the moment then meticulously arranged during daily studio time. Like a painter or sculptor, I obsessively studied passages of sound and poetry, editing and chipping away at the material until shapes began to appear and whole pieces eventually stood by themselves.
Having worked for close to 10 years with my band Nervous Cabaret I was now on my own, away from all that was familiar. It felt dangerous but inspiring and I became intent on working as independently as possible to see if I could truly make a solo record. After accumulating many songs and pieces of music I was ready for outside reaction. On my bicycle I rode the Berlin streets, usb stick around my neck, stuffed with dozens of wav files. I knew in order to realize this work I needed help. Much like a director of a film, I needed the equivalent of a camera man or editor. I found this in my friend, British producer Matt Booker. Many of the following months were spent fine tuning the music with Matt, then sitting in his kitchen listening back and studying the days work as well as the work of our favorite artists and producers.
Over the last 10 years, both solo and with his band, Elyas has performed festival stages at Dour, Trans Musicales, Arezzo Wave, Festival les Escales, Nuits Botanique, among others, and played alongside Amanda Palmer, Animal Collective, Coco Rosie, Anthony & The Johnsons, Sonic Youth, Nouvelle Vague, 17 Hippies, Tarif de Haidouks, Alain Bashung, Jamie Lidell, and many more.
Ahead of the full album, 'Brawl in Paradise' on the 23rd September, is the release of Bells which will be available digitally from the 12th August. Summarised by Elyas as Bells, from east to west, ringing from monuments or mountain tops, sound a call to prayer, a call for alarm, a call to arms; signify a time to work, to eat, to celebrate. My own internal bell, the bells of my conscience, of my ancestry resound in the following song.

Obama rode in elevator with armed convicted felon
A convicted felon armed with a handgun rode an elevator with President Barack Obama during a recent visit to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta on September 16, it was revealed on Tuesday.
The president, along with his secret service, rode in an elevator with a contractor who was working for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention security firm. The security breach occurred while President Obama was visiting the CDC Atlanta on Sept. 16.
Secret Service agents grew suspicious of the contractor when he refused to stop recording video with his cell phone. The Secret Service did not screen the contractor who was later found to have been carrying a gun.
Obama and most of his detail exited the elevator but several agents stayed behind to question the man. A supervisor for the CDC security firm fired the contractor immediately. Upon doing a background check on the contractor, Secret Service learned that the he was a convicted felon.
The contractor then handed over his weapon to the surprise of the Secret Service agents who were not aware he was carrying a weapon while in the elevator with the president.
This incident occurred three days prior to the security breach in which Omar Gonzalez was able to sneak into the White House. Secret Service Director Julia Pierson said in a press conference that due to budget cuts, the Secret Service is operating at 550 employees below optimal level.
