Meckering is a town 130 km east of Perth, Western Australia along the Great Eastern Highway. Meckering is located within the Shire of Cunderdin.
A railway line was completed in the area in 1895 and Meckering was selected as a station site. The first name chosen for the townsite was Beebering, the Aboriginal name for the hills just north of the town.
The townsite of Beebering was gazetted in 1895.[2] The name of the town was changed to Meckering in 1897 to agree with the station name and the name for the town that was used locally. Meckering is an Aboriginal word thought to mean moon on the water or good hunting.
At 10:59 am on 14 October 1968, a 40-second earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter Scale destroyed the town, and had effect on a considerable area in the south western region of Western Australia.[3] As it was a public holiday, the risk of casualties was reduced. Buildings in the metropolitan area of Perth were damaged as a result of the earthquake, and tremors were felt as far away as Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Esperance, and Albany.[3] The building codes and various structural issues for Western Australia were modified as a result of the earthquake and further development of earthquake engineering.[4] [5] The memory and significance of the event is commemorated by the local and wider community in a number of ways.[6] [7] [8] [9]
A later earthquake at Cadoux in 1979 was on a par with the Meckering event in some people's memories, although less damage occurred in Perth.

Meckering - Western Australia
Meckering is a sleepy little town located on the Great Eastern Highway between Perth and Kalgoorlie.
Primarily a wheat and sheep area, the town is still famous for the earthquake that struck in 1968. The ruins of a farmhouse called Salisbury gives graphic evidence of the power of the quake. See the History tab for more information on this.

Salisbury Homestead Eartquake
Coming back from the outback of West Aus I stopped off at a remarkable phenomenon here in WA. Here is some info.
At 10.59a.m., on 14th October, 1968, the small town of Meckering, about 130 km east of Perth, was destroyed by an earthquake. Twenty people were injured, but incredibly, no one was killed. The earthquake was felt throughout the southern half of the State and caused damage in the surrounding townships, particularly York and Northam, and in the Perth Metropolitan area.
The magnitude (ML) of the Meckering Earthquake was 6.9 on the Richter Scale making it one of the largest recorded in the seismic history of Australia. Although the magnitude was moderate the focus of the earthquake was only about 7km deep and the surface intensity reached MMIX on the Modified Mercalli scale.
The earthquake and its aftershocks were accompanied by surface faulting extending over an area of 200 km2 and an arcuate dextral thrust fault 37 km long was formed. Many smaller faults were generated by the earthquake, principally within the quadrant formed by the main thrust scarp, and there is some evidence to suggest that movement on at least one of these faults took place several days after the main fault formation. The Meckering Fault was the first tectonic ground breakage to be recorded in Australia.
The Meckering Earthquake was located in a well-documented zone of seismic activity which is about 60 km wide and extends across the southwest corner of Western Australia. Seventeen months after the main event at Meckering, at 1.15 a.m. on 11th March 1970, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake occurred at Calingiri, 80 km northwest of Meckering. This earthquake was again shallow, with a focal depth of about 1 km, and was accompanied by surface faulting similar to that at Meckering.
This location of the faulting at Meckering and Calingiri, in an otherwise stable Precambrian Shield, has shown that damaging earthquakes are a potential hazard in Western Australia, and are not confined to the margins of the major lithospheric plates.

Changes at the Five Structures Area
This video is about some recent changes I found this fall in the location I refer to as 'The Five Structures Area'. :) This is also found in my 'Who Are You' river valley, where I have found many dozen stick structures come and go over the past three years. Hunting, camping, open fires, bikes, motorized vehicles and moving or removing forest material is strictly prohibited. Somehow, these things are being constructed.

Yowie Sighting (Audio Report #128) at Wandina near Geraldton, Western Australia
This is our last Audio Report for 2018.
Thank you to everyone for listening. We hope you found our Witness Audio Reports for 2018, informative and educational.
The last Report for this year is for our friends in Western Australia. This is yet another Report from a barren landscape, opposed from the usual sightings from the lush mountainous districts of the East Coast.
The fact is, they are sighted in the deserts. This Report is a little stranger than others, as it was seen in a yard of an estate on the edge of the wastelands.
There was another element or side note to the story which we didn’t include, which was a Priest was called to the house to exorcize an entity that had turned violet towards the son and was felt by all.
Again, thanks for listening. We will return with more uploads sometime in the New Year.
