Wielkopolski National Park - Poland's Official Travel Website Information about the park- The National Park of Wielkopolska was The Wielkopolski National Park was established on 1st April 1957 and is representative of the nature of the Wielkopolska Lakeland region. The park is located a short distance from Poznan and on the natural forest Wielkopolski-Kujawski Lowlands. The total area of the park is 7,602 hectares with only about 259 hectares (3%) under strictly protection which includes 107 hectares under forests cover and the remainder made up by bodies of water. The majority of the area has been protected since 1934.The landscape of the park is highly diversified in terms of terrain. The results of glacial erosion are the numerous rises of lateral and terminal moraines, eskers, kames, drumlins and post-glacial gutters filled with water forming lakes. The park has 12 different types of lakes such as gutter (Lake Goreckie), terminal moraine (Lake Kociolek), eutrophic (Lake Budzynski) and dystrophic (Lake Skrzynka) and the highest elevation of a terminal moraine is about 130m.The park has a clear forest character with oak, hornbeam pine and mixed forest. Unfortunately, these forests are not of natural origin but were formed as a result of human activities. Hence the dominant species is pine, which covers 89% of the forest area while 77% of the park is a forest habitat. Another main forest species in the park is oak, followed by spruce, larch, birch, ash, alder, linden and hornbeam. Within the park there are 17 total protection areas or nature reserves and the main component of the flora of the park are its forests and their undergrowth and ground cover with mainly Euro-Siberian and central European species. The flora in the park is very diverse and has more than 1,100 different species of vascular plants including many protected species such as orchids, dianthus, twinflowers and others. There are also 500 species of algae, 400 species of fungi, 150 species of lichens, 200 species of bryophytes that grow here.Among the abundant fauna, there are the typical forest species such as red deer, roe deer, wild boar, fox, marten, hare, badger and others. The most numerous species are found among the insects with more than 3,000 varieties including the largest Polish species of spider of the Argiope family, the wasp spider, as well as the only species of spider in Poland that spends its entire life underwater, the diving bell spider. Of the major animal groups there are also molluscs (114 species), fish (36 species), birds (190 species) and mammals (46 species). It is possible to come across a grass snake, a slow worm, a black woodpecker, a black kite, a great crested grebe or a common buzzard. There is the diverse family of invertebrates includes more than 3,000 recorded species of insects. The natural environment of the park, especially the forests, is at risk due to the proximity of Poznan and its industry. The gradation of the nun moth was also a significant threat between 1982 and 1984. All this together and the fact that pine was growing on the incorrect sites resulted in the need for intensive redevelopment of these forests and by the nineties pine ceased to be the dominant species in the park. The Park Museum is of note with its interesting exhibition of nature and there are 7 marked trails running through the park with a total length of 80km. The Wielkopolski National Park is easily accessible by bus and train from Poznan, which is only 15km away.

Poland is an unbroken plain reaching from the Baltic Sea in the north to the Carpathian Mountains in the south. Within that plain, terrain variations generally run in bands from east to west.
The country extends 876 kilometers from north to south and 689 kilometers from east to west. Poland's total area is 312,843 square kilometers, including inland waters.
Forests cover 28% of Polands land area.
Poland is the most important breeding ground for European migratory birds. Out of all of the migratory birds who come to Europe for the summer, one quarter breed in Poland, particularly in the lake districts and the wetlands along the Biebrza, the Narew, and the Warta, which are part of nature reserves or national parks. In Masuria, there are villages in which storks outnumber people.
The climate is mostly temperate throughout the country. The climate is oceanic in the north and west and becomes gradually warmer and continental as one moves south and east. Summers are generally warm, with average temperatures between 20 °C (68 °F) and 27 °C (81 °F). Winters are cold, with average temperatures around 3 °C (37 °F) in the northwest and −8 °C (17.6 °F) in the northeast.
Phytogeographically, Poland belongs to the Central European province of the Circumboreal Region within the Boreal Kingdom. According to the WWF, the territory of Poland can be subdivided into three ecoregions: the Baltic mixed forests, Central European mixed forests and Carpathian montane conifer forests.

The Cold Creek Falls (slovak: Vodopády Studeného potoka) - were one of the oldest goals of the Tatra tourism. They were made famous by patients and tourists relaxing in Stary Smokovec, Slovakia.
The first Tatra Rainer shelter was built for the tourists who visited them (now it is no longer a hostel, but a buffet and a museum of porters).

Clyne Woods Pond, Swansea, Wales
I went out for a walk around Clyne Woods Pond on a soggy and sombre Sunday evening. This small pond lies just off the Clyne Valley Cycle Path - part of Cycle Track 4 of the National Cycleway Network - which runs through the Clyne Valley Country Park in western Swansea, Wales.
