Careys in Boston 2
At the Black Rose Irish pub.
Thrillist - Black Horse Tavern - Boston, MA
The culmination of a lifelong dream from a local police officer/real estate agent husband-wife duo, this upscale neighborhood resto/bar's modeled after an iconic 1700s Winchester pub and is slinging hearty American fare in the 84-seat former Black Horse Bootery, which's been richly outfitted w/ a 36ft mahogany bar, floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, brown leather booths, copper ceiling tiles, and a row of bifold windows that can't decide whether they prefer to be opened or closed. Burly entrees include a 12oz chargrilled, herb butter'd New York Sirloin; salmon pan seared with honey/soy/ginger; and a thick center-cut Beer Brined Pork Chop served w/ applesauce and herb mashed potatoes, which're constantly in danger of devouring themselves while watching Robot Chicken. There's also handheld deliciousness like the half-pound Black Horse Burger w/ cheddar, sliced sweet Italian sausage, and caramelized onions; a cheddar/jack cheese'd BBQ chicken pizza w/ red peppers, cilantro, and lime; and a mozzarella melted steak tip sammie w/ grilled mushrooms/onions on a crusty French baguette that won't stop complaining about how much better things were under Mitterrand.

Places to see in ( Boston - USA )
Places to see in ( Boston - USA )
Boston is Massachusetts’ capital and largest city. Founded in 1630, it’s one of the oldest cities in the U.S. The key role it played in the American Revolution is highlighted on the Freedom Trail, a 2.5-mile walking route of historic sites that tells the story of the nation’s founding. One stop, former meeting house Faneuil Hall, is a popular marketplace.
Boston's history recalls revolution and transformation, and today it is still among the country’s most forward-thinking and barrier-breaking cities. The arts have thrived in Boston ever since the 19th century, when this cultural capital was dubbed the Athens of America. Certainly, the intellectual elite appreciated their fine paintings and classical music, but they were also dedicated to spreading the cultural wealth, establishing museums, libraries and symphony orchestras for all to enjoy.
'Fanatic' is no idle word here. Boston fans are passionate about sports. And with the five-time world-champion Patriots, the long-overdue World Series–winning Red Sox, the winningest basketball team in history, the Celtics, and the highly successful and historic hockey team, the Bruins, there is a lot to be passionate about. Boston's college teams also inspire fierce loyalties and staunch rivalries. No less spirited is the country's oldest and most celebrated running event, the world-famous Boston Marathon, and the world's largest two-day rowing event, the Head of the Charles Regatta.
For all intents and purposes, Boston is the oldest city in America. And you can hardly walk a step over its cobblestone streets without running into some historic site. The Freedom Trail winds its way around the city, connecting 16 historically significant sites. These are the very places where history unfolded: from the first public school in America to Boston’s oldest church building to sites linked to America's fight for independence from Britain – Boston is, in effect, one fantastic outdoor history museum.
Boston is surrounded by the Greater Boston region and is contiguously bordered by the cities and towns of Winthrop, Revere, Chelsea, Everett, Somerville, Cambridge, Watertown, Newton, Brookline, Needham, Dedham, Canton, Milton, and Quincy. The Charles River separates Boston from Watertown and the majority of Cambridge, and the mass of Boston from its own Charlestown neighborhood. To the east lie Boston Harbor and the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area (which includes part of the city's territory, specifically Calf Island, Gallops Island, Great Brewster Island, Green Island, Little Brewster Island, Little Calf Island, Long Island, Lovells Island, Middle Brewster Island, Nixes Mate, Outer Brewster Island, Rainsford Island, Shag Rocks, Spectacle Island, The Graves, and Thompson Island). The Neponset River forms the boundary between Boston's southern neighborhoods and the city of Quincy and the town of Milton. The Mystic River separates Charlestown from Chelsea and Everett, and Chelsea Creek and Boston Harbor separate East Boston from Boston proper.

A Neighborhood Conversation on Racism in Boston
Pulitzer-prize winning journalist Farah Stockman hosts a conversation in Roxbury's historic Hibernian Hall to celebrate the culmination of weeks of neighborhood readings on the historic busing crisis that ripped Boston apart in the 1970s. An upcoming film, The Harvest, is the impetus for the conversation.
The discussion, moderated by Stockman, includes two former residents of Boston: Michael Patrick MacDonald, who grew up in South Boston’s Old Colony housing project during the 1970s busing crisis, and Cheryl Harris, who grew up in the Mission Hill neighborhood of Boston and experienced the social and political upheaval first-hand as a young mother. This Roxbury conversation will find the parallels in the Boston busing crisis and Boston's ongoing issues of system racism.

Whitey Bulger Dead: Notorious Gangster Played By Johnny Depp In ‘Black Mass’ Is ‘Killed’ In Prison A
Notorious Boston mob crime boss and convicted murderer Whitey Bulger has been killed after being moved to a new high security prison in West Virginia. We’ve got the shocking details. James “Whitey” Bulger, the infamous Irish-American Boston crime boss has been killed in prison at age 89. He infamously went on the run for 16 years before being captured in Santa Monica, CA in 2011, spending 12 of those years on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. On Oct. 29 he was relocated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons to its high-security penitentiary in Hazelton in West Virginia. He was serving two life sentences for the murders of 11 people was was said to be in failing health at the time of his killing. Bulger’s life story was made into the 2015 film Black Mass where he was portrayed by Johnny Depp. The president of the union representing workers at the prison confirmed a male inmate was killed overnight. Federal officials later confirmed Bulger’s identity on Oct. 30. Bulger rose to prominence in the 1970’s as the leader of South Boston’s notorious Winter Hill gang. He was accused of operating rackets that included extortion, fixing horse races, bookmaking, loan sharking and even arms trafficking. He had no qualms about bumping off his enemies or those he felt betrayed him and was believed by federal officials to have had a hand in 19 murders. He was eventually convicted in 2015 of 11 killings. Depp earned accolades for his portrayal of Bulger in Black Mass, undergoing a massive physical transformation to play the balding gangster. Martin Scorcese‘s 2006 Boston mob drama The Departed was loosely based on parts of Bulger’s life, with Jack Nicholson‘s character of Francis “Frank” Costello being the fictional version of the real Boston crime boss. Bulger’s life was also examined in the 2014 documentary Whitey: United States of America v. James J. Bulger.

Dropkick Murphys - Rose Tattoo (Video)
Dropkick Murphys are a punk rock band formed in Quincy, Massachusetts, United States in 1996. First playing together in the basement of a friend's barbershop, the band made a name for itself because of its relentless touring and for its annual St. Patrick's Day weekend shows in Boston. The band's songs often deal with celtic influences, and the working-class environment in which the band members grew up.
The band put out a series of EPs and was signed by Rancid frontman Tim Armstrong's label Hellcat Records. In 1998, the Dropkick Murphys released their first full-length album, Do or Die. Lead singer Mike McColgan, who left the band later that year, was replaced by The Bruisers lead singer Al Barr. In 1999, they released their followup album, The Gang's All Here. In 2001, they released their third album, Sing Loud, Sing Proud. The album showcased the group's developing sound and included collaborations with The Pogues' frontman Shane Macgowan and Cock Sparrer's Colin McFaull. It also marked a significant lineup change for the band. Original guitarist Rick Barton was replaced by former The Ducky Boys' guitarists James Lynch and Marc Orrell; instruments were added and played by new members Ryan Foltz and Spicy McHaggis.
