This week we start by looking at a favourite cabernet from the Coonawarra that Danny thinks would go perfectly with a late night lamb sandwich. Following this Brad looks at a riesling from the Eden Valley which constantly rates as one of Australia's best, and it's bargain too! To round things out Danny also suggests you ignore passing trends for a moment and try a shiraz from one of Australia's oldest wineries.

Katnook Odyssey - Timeless Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon
Katnook Odyssey Cabernet Sauvignon is Katnook Estate’s flagship wine. This highly awarded, limited release Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon is handcrafted only in outstanding vintages, and from specific rows from single vineyards sites located on the best terra ross soil. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, Katnook Odyssey represents a seamless blend of intense fruit and extended oak maturation. A wine that demands time in the clear to truly express itself.
Katnook Odyssey Cabernet Sauvignon was originally released in 1996 from the 1991 vintage to commemorate the centenary of the first vintage made at Katnook’s woolshed in 1896. The limited release wine was named to reflect the ongoing journey of Katnook with its roots in the past and sights on the future.
The aim was to make a Cabernet Sauvignon at the highest echelon that would embody the regionality of Coonawarra and then, reach beyond it. A wine that could stand alongside the world’s best.

Cabernet Sauvignon Wine from Coonawarra, Australia - McGuigan Shortlist
Neil McGuigan of McGuigan Wines joins Majestic Wine to taste his Shortlist Cabernet Sauvignon, a limited production wine available exclusively at Majestic and a wine from the Coonawarra region -
This beautiful Coonawarra Cabernet comes from the 2009 vintage. What we're trying to do with our Cabernet Sauvignon is we're not trying to make Aussie Dry Red from Cabernet Sauvignon. We're trying to make varietal cabernet. As a result, we're all about fruit on the nose, and this wine shows beautiful cassis, rhubarb, and some cherry characters on the nose, just with a hint of oak as well, so it's in the varietal style of Cabernet Sauvignon.
The palette with this one is all about structure. The palette with good cabernets is all about structure. It's got length, it's got refinement, it's got beautiful tannin on the inside of the gums, but not aggressive. It has beautiful warmth, obviously coming from the Australian sun, and it's a wine that has great texture. Also, the wine, by the structure of the wine, you can feel that it's quite firm on the middle of the palette, which means that it's going to age gracefully. It's a wine that you could consume now or in the next 4 to 5 years, and it would be fantastic with roast beef on the rarer side rather than on the well-done side.

Katnook Coonawarra - Rich in history and heritage.
Nestled in the heart of Coonawarra, Katnook is rich in history and heritage. Established in 1867, Katnook was the site of Coonawarra’s first commercial wine vintage made by local pioneer, John Riddoch.
Eight-four years later in 1979, the next chapter of Katnook began, with wines produced from the family owned property by Senior Winemaker Wayne Stehbens. For more than 35 years, Wayne has crafted the iconic Odyssey Cabernet Sauvignon and Prodigy Shiraz along with the flagship Katnook Estate range and contemporary Founder’s Block wines.
