SteamFile - S2 EP2. Llangollen Railway, Steel Steam & Stars IV. 15/3/15
The Llangollen Railway's Steel Steam & Stars gala is one of the biggest gala's in the UK's heritage railway calendar as the event only happens once every 2 or 3 years. Once again I ventured to the railway for the big event and this time I chose to visit for 2 days with an overnight stop in Llangollen.
The engines that were picked for the 2015 Steel Steam & Stars IV (4) steam gala came from an 8 locomotive line up --

The Venice Simplon-Orient Express was a private luxury train service travelling from London to Venice.
The original company was founded by James Sherwood in 1982; five years earlier, in 1977, he purchased two of the original carriages at the auction when the Compagnie International des Wagons-Lits withdrew from the Orient Express service, passing on the service to the national railways of France, Germany, and Austria. Over the next few years, he spent a total of $16 million purchasing 35 sleeper, restaurant and Pullman carriages. On 25 May 1982, the first London-Venice run was made.
MINEHEAD RAILWAY - COLOUR
Lord Montagu of Beaulieu is present at the re-opening of the Blue Anchor Line, which was closed by British Rail five years ago but, with Government money and private enterprise, the steam trains are once again rolling along the tracks.

5. Intercity Saver Fares - 1990
The thing about rail privatisation is that is has created a really confusing fares structure, right? Well not exactly. As this video shows, British Rail were already well on the way to introducing yield management of ticket availability. Whilst this in itself is not a problem, how you then advertise the validity of the different bands of tickets can be a problem.
The essence of this video is explaining the reason behind the latest tweak to saver fares, and how to work out each trains validity on the red/blue/white system, fondly remembered by all APTIS users.
Anglia TV stalwart Sharon Gray is the anchor person, interviewing Rob Mason, then Marketing Director at Intercity, who went on to be MD at Gatwick Express and Railcorp in Australia, via LUL. The person with by far the greatest post-video history is Saver Fares Manager Dean Fitzpatrick, who now owns Viz, yes really!
There's obviously some hope for us all then.
