Victoria Crowned Pigeon - A Strikingly Beautiful, Intelligent and Most Expensive Blue Ground Bird
The Victoria crowned pigeon (Goura victoria) is a large, bluish-grey, Strikingly Beautiful, Intelligent and Most Expensive Blue Ground Bird pigeon with elegant blue lace-like crests, maroon breast, and red irises. It is part of a genus (Goura) of four unique, very large, ground-dwelling pigeons native to the New Guinea region. The bird may be easily recognized by the unique white tips on its crests and by its deep 'whooping' sounds made while calling. Its name commemorates the British monarch Queen Victoria.
The Victoria crowned pigeon is a deep blue-gray color with a small, black mask. Its feather crest (the signature feature of crowned pigeons other than their size) is conspicuously white-tipped. On the wing coverts is a row of feathers that are a paler blue-gray with maroon tips. These form a distinct wing bar. The chest is a deep purple-maroon color. As in all crowned pigeons, melanism has been observed. The other two crowned pigeons are somewhat superficially similar, but only the western crowned pigeon overlaps in range with the Victoria species. The Scheepmaker's crowned pigeon does not. In the western species, the crown is more scraggly and hair-like, the chest is a uniform blue-gray and not maroon, and a less distinct wing-bar is present. Both sexes are similar.
This species is typically 73 to 75 cm (29 to 30 in) long. Some specimens may exceed a length of 80 cm (31 in) and a weight of 3.5 kg (7.7 lb). It is marginally larger than the two other crowned pigeons on average, thus is considered the largest surviving species of pigeon of earth. The standard measurements among pigeons on mainland New Guinea are: the wing chord is 36–39 cm (14–15 in), the tail is 27–30.1 cm (10.6–11.9 in), the bill is 3.2–3.5 cm (1.3–1.4 in) and the unfeathered tarsus is 8.5–9.8 cm (3.3–3.9 in).
Like other crowned pigeons, this species makes a loud clapping sound when it takes flight. The mating calls of this species are also similar to the other two species of crowned pigeons, consisting of a deep hoota-hoota-hoota-hoota-hoota sound. When defending their territories, these birds make a resounding whup-up, whup-up, whup-up call. Their contact call is a deep, muffled, and rather human-like ummm or hmmm.
The two subspecies of the Victoria crowned pigeon are G. v. beccarii found on the mainland of New Guinea and G. v. victoria, the nominate race, found on the islands of Yapen, Biak and Supiori. The nominate subspecies is markedly smaller, with a wing chord measurement of 31.6–33.2 cm (12.4–13.1 in), with less robust legs and feet and darker overall plumage. The nominate has a sparser crest with black on the wing coverts and right above the tail.

Curious and Beautiful Fancy Pigeons Breeds Ever Seen
Fancy pigeons are a type of domestic pigeons, which are domesticated varieties of the wild rock dove (Columba livia). They are bred by pigeon fanciers for various traits relating to size, shape, color, and behavior, who often exhibit their birds at pigeon shows, fairs and other livestock exhibits.
There are about 800 pigeon breeds; considering all regional varieties all over the world there may be 1100 breeds. The European list of fancy pigeons alone names about 500 breeds. No other domestic animal has branched out into such a variety of forms and colours.
Charles Darwin is known to have crossbred fancy pigeons, particularly the Ice Pigeon, to study variation within species, this work coming three years before his groundbreaking publication, On the Origin of Species.
Pigeon fanciers from many different countries exhibit their birds at local, inter-state or national shows and compete against one another for prizes. One typical country show in Australia in 2008 had hundreds of pigeons on display and prizes for the winners. In England, the Philoperisteron Society conducted annual shows in the mid 1800s. There were also a London Columbarian Society. The extensive variations in the breeds attracted the attention of Charles Darwin and played a major role in developing ideas on evolution.
Some fanciers organize exhibitions exclusively for pigeons; one held in Blackpool run by the Royal Pigeon Racing Association is annually attended by about 25,000 people and generates around £80,000 profit, which is donated to charity.
The largest pigeon show is held in Nuremberg: the German National Pigeon Show, which had over 33,500 pigeons at the 2006 show.
In the United States, there are hundreds of local, state and national pigeon clubs that sponsor shows. The largest shows are the National Young Bird Show, held in Louisville, Kentucky in October, and the National Pigeon Association's Grand National, held in a different city each year and usually in January.

#Silkie plumage was once unique among chicken breeds, however in recent years silkie feathering has been developed in several breeds, mostly notably the Chabo, where it is now standardised in Britain and the Netherlands. It has been compared to silk, and to fur. The overall result is a soft, fluffy appearance. Their feathers lack functioning barbicels, and are thus similar to down on other birds. This characteristic leaves Silkies unable to fly.
Silkies appear in two distinct varieties: bearded and non-bearded. Bearded Silkies have an extra muff of feathers under the beak area that covers the earlobes. They also are separated according to color. Colors of Silkie recognized for competitive showing include black, blue, buff, grey, partridge, and white. Alternative hues, such as cuckoo, lavender, red, and splash also exist. The standards of perfection call for all Silkies to have a small walnut-colored comb, dark wattles, and turquoise-blue earlobes. In addition to these defining characteristics, Silkies have five toes on each foot. Other breeds which exhibit this rare trait include the Dorking, Faverolles, and Sultan.
All Silkies have black skin, bones and grayish-black meat; their Chinese language name is wu gu ji (烏骨雞), meaning 'black-boned chicken'. #Melanism which extends beyond the skin into an animal's connective tissue is a rare trait, and in chickens it is caused by fibromelanosis, which is a rare mutation believed to have begun in #Asia. The Silkie and several other breeds descended from Asian stock possess the mutation. Disregarding color, the breed does not generally produce as much as the more common meat breeds of chicken.
Silkies lay a fair number of eggs, of a cream color, but production is often interrupted due to their extreme tendency to go broody; a hen will produce 100 eggs in an ideal year. Their capacity for incubation, which has been selectively bred out of most fowl #bred especially for egg production, is often exploited by poultry keepers by allowing Silkies to raise the offspring of other birds. In addition to being good mothers, #Silkies are universally renowned for their calm, friendly temperament. They do well in confinement, and interact very well with children. This docility can cause Silkies to be bullied by more active or aggressive #birds when kept in mixed flocks.

The Congo #peacock male does not display his covert feathers, but uses his actual tail feathers during courtship displays. These feathers are much shorter than those of the Indian and green species, and the ocelli are much less pronounced. Females of the Indian and African species are dull grey and/or brown.
Chicks of both sexes in all the species are cryptically coloured. They vary between yellow and tawny, usually with patches of darker brown or light tan and dirty white ivory.
Occasionally, peafowl appear with #white plumage. Although albino peafowl do exist, this is quite rare and almost all white peafowl are not, in fact, albinos; they have a different condition called leucism which causes an overall reduction in different types of pigment. This can result in the complete lack of coloration of their plumage, while preserving normal eye colour. By contrast, true albino peafowl have a complete lack of melanin, resulting in the albino's characteristic red or pink eyes. Leucistic peachicks are born yellow and become fully white as they mature.

The #Indian #Fantail is a #breed of #fancy #pigeon developed over many years of selective breeding. Indian Fantails, along with other varieties of domesticated pigeons are all descendants of the rock dove (Columba livia).
The Indian Fantail pigeon is a breed of fancy pigeon; it originated in India.
They have a distinct fan shaped tail, and are bigger than the English Fantail pigeon. Indian Fantail pigeons are most commonly white with light tan spots, although breeders have introduced more new colours. Their feet are covered in feathers, and the birds walk on their toes. Their average weight is 13 ounces (369 g) and their average length is 11 inches (28 cm). The chest is carried upright so that it is higher than the bird’s head, which rests back on the cushion formed by the tail feathers.
Indian Fantail #pigeons usually lay 2 or 3 #eggs in a clutch. Hatched fledglings take at least 4 to 6 weeks to fly and leave their home. Usually a breeding pair can lay eggs around or after 21 days from the first hatch.

Beautiful Jacobin Pigeon Breed Information
The Jacobin pigeon is an Asiatic breed of domestic fancy pigeon. It is from India and was developed over many years of selective breeding. It is known for it’s feathered hood over it’s head, and it is in the Asian feather and voice pigeon show group. This breed and other varieties of domesticated pigeons, all are descendants of the feral or wild rock pigeon.
It is a very old breed and it’s head is completely hidden behind it’s splendid hood of 5-6 long feathers. The breed was named so after an order of French monks known for their distinctive hoods. The Jacobin pigeon was probably developed in the 1500s, and the breeders have been captivated by this elegant bird ever since. Read some more information about this breed below.
Jacobin Pigeon Appearance
The Jacobin pigeon is a small to medium sized bird with beautiful appearance. It has fluffy feathers which give the impression that this bird is a much larger than it actually is. Body of these birds is relatively tall and slim. They have bare legs and long wings. They have obstructed vision, mainly because of their hood. The breed appears in a variety of colors including black, blue, yellow, silver and white. Two-toned birds (known as splash) are also available.

The Stargard Shaker pigeon is a breed of domestic fancy pigeon developed over many years of selective breeding. It was originally developed in Pomerania. The breed is also known by some other names such as Zitterhall, Swan Neck, French name: Trembleur de Stargard and German name: Stargarder Zitterhals, Trembleur de Stargard, Zitterhalls, Stargarder Zitterhals, Collo Tremulo di Stargard, Старгардский Шекер.
Exact origins or the breeds used in the creation of this breed are unknown. It is an old breed which is thought to have existed in the early 1700s. Stargard Shaker pigeon was one of the champions at the 2007 NPA Grand Nationals. Read some more information about the breed below.
Stargard Shaker Pigeon Appearance : The Stargard Shaker pigeon is a small to medium sized breed. It has curved swan-like necks that tremble or shake in a way similar to the Fantail pigeons and the Indian Mookee. Wings of these birds are carried neatly on the tail. The Stargard Shaker pigeons appear in many colors such as black, blue barred, checkered, yellow, lark, red and white. But the red and yellow colors are most common and are the best quality. They have clean legs and plain head. Although there have been some varieties with a peak crest and/or muffs.

Stargard Shaker pigeon is a dual purpose breed. It is good for both flying and exhibition.
The Stargard Shaker pigeon is a very beautiful bird with uncommon appearance. It is relatively hardy and is very good forager. It is a good feeder of it’s young. These birds were originally a flying breed, but now raised mainly as a exhibition breed. They have been in the United States for some time. But they never been popular and are fairly rare. They require a dry house with the inside protected from snow and rain, and they also require suitable nesting materials. Separate houses will be good for mated pairs and odd birds.
