The Bogey Hole, also known as the Commandant's Baths, is a heritage-listed sea bath in Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia. It is thought to be the oldest surviving European construction in the city area. The pool was hewn from a sandstone/conglomerate rock shelf at the base of cliffs near Shepherds Hill. The pool has an average depth of 1.5 metres (4.9 ft) and its maximum dimensions are 10 by 6.5 metres (32.8 ft × 21.3 ft). The open side of the pool is fenced by stanchions and chains

The historic Bogey Hole at Newcastle is a hand-hewn ocean rock pool carved out of a cliff face by convicts in the 19th century.
The Bogey Hole was constructed by order of Commandant Morisset in about 1820 for his own personal use. It was originally known as the Commandant's Baths. The name Bogey Hole was applied afterwards and comes from the indigenous word meaning to bathe.
A local thrill is to grab the barrier chains on the seaward side of the baths in a moderate swell and hang on tightly when a wave breaks.

Bogey Hole - Newcastle NSW
A visit today to our famous Bogey Hole constructed by convicts during the command of Major Morriset when Newcastle was still a penal settlement.
In December 1818 he was appointed as commandant and magistrate at Newcastle. His public works were admired by Governor Macquarie. His attention to prisoners, and attempt to adapt punishments to individual convicts was also praised by Commissioner Bigge. He was regarded as a stern disciplinarian, one historian claiming the cat-o'-nine-tails and the triangle ... were in daily and almost hourly service.

Hey guys, long time no see for the Sydney vlog. Although I still have about 8 or 9 Japan episodes to release I'm going to be continuing with the Sydney vlog in an attempt to show you my life and make the mundane interesting!
In this video I start of on Thursday going to the Newski Opening Party where I take a bunch of photos, have a bunch of drinks and generally have a reckless night.
Then on Friday I went to the University of New South Whales for the Arc training day.
Saturday morning we go and grab brunch at Bloody Mary's before driving up to Newcastle to visit my sister. When we get there we have some drinks then go and eat dinner at a restaurant called Sprout Dining which was awesome.
After dinner I stay up until the early hours of the morning to film some timelapses and then promptly fall asleep.
Then the next day we go to Merewether Beach which is an absolutely amazing beach. We visited the Bogey Hole which was also awesome.
