Sapperton Canal Tunnel
The Sapperton Tunnel is on the Thames and Severn Canal near Cirencester in Gloucestershire, England. After five years of construction it was opened on 20 April 1789. With a length of 3,817 yards it was the longest canal tunnel, and the longest tunnel of any kind, in England until 1811.
Mrs Emily Elliot of Frampton Mansell (aged 84 when recorded c.1961) and Mrs Lily Moss of Lechlade (recorded c. 1965) share their memories of Sapperton Tunnel.

More films about the canal in Stroud at:
Today was a chance for people to walk along the new 330m stretch of canal at Capel Mill in Stroud - the canal has been carved out of a 1970s refuse tip and you can still see bits of plastic coming through the concrete pillars which keep it in place. The temporary dam, currently holds back a 1.5m wall of water, is due to be removed in the next week.
The project dubbed 'the missing link', links Bowbridge and Stroud and has been described as one of the most challenging on the canal. See more about the restoration process and how to get involved as a volunteer or member of the Cotswold Canal Trust at: cotswoldcanals.com

Middlewich canal Collapse Update, April 2018
Update on the canal collapse at Middlewich, a temporary dam has been built and the canal back filled with water from the other side of the lock, all but 3 of the stranded boats have been moved through the lock to new moorings, or been able to carry on with their journeys. Sorry bit wobbly, using an old camera with no eyepiece and forgot my tripod.
