Canada Road Trip Vlog | Driving from Ontario to British Columbia
Join us for an epic Canada Road Trip in this vlog as we highlight our journey driving from the Ontario to British Columbia as a family traveling with a dog. As one of our last major trips of 2018 it was an incredible opportunity to travel with Audrey's family and Togo the German Shepherd across Canada. Basically we all piled into a van and drove roughly 9 to 12 hours per day over 4 days to arrive in Alberta before spending a couple of nights with a family friend before making the brief crossing over to British Columbia. Overall, our journey looked like this:
Day 1 Driving in Ontario and staying overnight in a cabin
Day 2 Once again driving in Ontario and staying overnight in a cabin
Day 3 Driving out of Ontario crossing through Manitoba and staying overnight in Saskatchewan in an airbnb
Day 4 Driving from Saskatchewan in to Alberta and staying overnight with a friend
Day 5 Exploring Alberta (which we'll show in another video) and staying overnight with a friend
Day 6 Crossing from Alberta to British Columbia
Basically if you're looking to do a road trip like this across Canada you can make it from Ontario to British Columbia in four busy days or a more comfortable 5 days.

Canada Road Trip Vlog | Driving from Ontario to British Columbia Travel Video Transcript:
So here we have Togo he jumped in the car. He is ready for his road trip. Ready to see all of Canada. He looks so happy.
Well, good morning good morning. Good morning guys. We are kicking off this road trip. It is happening. It is happening. The plan. I feel like we haven't really explained it. We came up with the idea to do this last minute road trip with my family. With my parents with the dog. We're going to be driving from Ontario to BC. Yeah, British Columbia for those who don't know. Haha. British Columbia. Sam's home province. I haven't been there in over 10 years I'm so excited to go back. It is going to be fun. I've never been there before. It is going to be 4 days of driving to get there. We're going to show you guys the road trip and then once we get to BC we're going to be doing lots of hiking, visiting lakes, mountains, nature. It is going to be a good time and then on the way back we're planning to travel via the US if we can get across the boarder with this dog.
We want to hit the road. We've got three provinces in one day. It is very exciting. Want to name them all? We're leaving Ontario. We're going to Manitoba and then we're finishing off in Saskatchewan. We've got a lot of driving.
We are getting close to Regina. We like blasted through Manitoba. It took us two and half days to get through Ontario and just a few hours to get through Manitoba. Flat roads the whole way and yeah the scenery didn't really change. Like we started off with a little bit of forest as we crossed through Ontario into Manitoba and then it became flat like a pancake and it was mostly like farmland so it was a completely different change of scenery.
We are going to be continuing the road trip out to BC (British Columbia) so like yesterday we did a little bit of sightseeing around Alberta but now we're going to finish off strong so we have about three hours left to drive over across the Rockies.
I think we can say welcome to home sweet home. Where are we? Welcome to my home province of British Columbia guys. This is my first time in Invermere. It looks like a beautiful town and we're going to show you the house that we're staying in. This is going to be our little base as we explore BC and Alberta. The Rockies. But before we do that I've just got to show you how big the property is.
This is part of our Travel in Canada video series showcasing Canadian food, Canadian culture and Canadian cuisine.

FINALLY BRAZILIAN BREAD IN TORONTO! | The Fluffies Channel
Today was a great day in the fluffy cave. Every time we go to Brazil, we can’t wait to get to a padaria (bakery) to buy something essential - pão francês. Unfortunately, until today, we have only had the real version in Brazil and in New Jersey. We have tried the bakeries in Toronto, but it never measured up.
But from today on, that has changed because we have finally found it available here in Toronto. There is this home bakery who has an online bakery where you can order Brazilian baked goods, like pão francês, pão de batata, pão doce, and she will make it and deliver it to your door. So today come and watch our reaction to our first taste. Will it measure up to the ones we had in Brazil or New Jersey?
We have the link to her bakery down in our description. This is not a paid propaganda. We paid for all the products.

Sourced: Sorelle and Co. a gluten-free bakery serving yummy treats
Michele Henry finds a fresh new bakery that's serving up gluten, soy, dairy and preservative free goods. And, they're delicious.
For more on this story go here: or read an excerpt below:
They may not always be as palatable or win the most taste buds.
But gluten-free foods make it possible for many types of eaters to sit at the same table.
“A lot of people are allergic” to various foods, says chef Jean-Charles Dupoire, 43, who has recently become a gluten-free expert.
“It’s something that’s touching a lot of people. If we (chefs) don’t react to that, that’s a big crime on our side.”
Enter Sorelle And Co., a quaint bakery and café situated in a picturesque heritage building at 1050 Rutherford Rd. in Vaughan.
This barely six-month-old shop offers an array of foods that are vegan and free of gluten, soy, nuts, dairy, egg, preservatives and even sesame. After realizing a lot of people were allergic to the tiny seed, “we decided to cut it as well,” says Dupoire, Sorelle’s culinary director.
So far, customers have been impressed by the baked goods at each of Sorelle’s locations. There are two stand-alone shops: one at Pusateri’s on Avenue Rd. and the other in the Saks Food Hall by Pusateri’s in the Eaton Centre.
Every week, customers devour 700 of Sorelle’s Nanaimo bars ($4 each), Dupoire says. Other delectables, such as puddings and sugar cookies, cupcakes and made-to-order cakes, don’t remain on the pretty displays very long.
That brings a smile to Dupoire’s face.
For him, this venture and style of cooking is a new challenge.

This Canadian Kitchen Is Opening Its Doors To Syrian Refugees
And they were, like, looking at each other, going, 'We're supposed to do the cooking?' And I'm like, 'Yeah, yeah. Just come cook,' said Len Senater, owner of The Depanneur, an eclectic food kitchen in Toronto.
All of the sudden, the timber of the whole thing changed and they were talking and laughing and cooking and chopping and, it became ... just the whole place was just full of life, and I think that's really when we said okay, this is an amazing thing that we really should do.
I'm Len Senater. I run The Depanneur here in Toronto. The Depanneur is a place where interesting food things happen. It's a venue I established about five years ago to showcase the amazing diversity of culinary talent we have in the city.
You know, as the news stories started coming out that there were families that were in the hotels for extended periods of time that didn't have access to kitchens, couldn't cook for their family or themselves, and I mean, I have this big kitchen; it's not being used necessarily during the day. ... Could I just invite them to use the kitchen so that they could use it to make food for themselves and their family?
It seemed like a pretty simple idea and kind of a natural extension of the way we open our kitchen to people anyways. If you combine newcomers with kitchens, all of these incredible opportunities start to emerge. So, they have an incredible skill set, and how do we recognize the skills they already have, and how can we create a path where they can take the skills they have and turn them into ways they can support their families? We win, too, because it makes the city a more delicious place to be, and we're getting these amazing foods that a lot of people have never tried before.
There's also this idea that although this issue was born in a specific crisis of this particular group not having kitchens for a short period of time, what became clear is that the essential idea is much bigger than that. This can be done with any newcomer community, or any marginalized community, in any kitchen willing to open its doors, in any city in the world.
So part of this project is also trying to figure out how to unpack that idea and realize the full potential. Can we open-source this idea and get it out into the world where its impact can amplify and magnify wherever it lands?

Forging a Hewing Broad Axe with Shawn James and Toronto Blacksmith's Paul Krzyszkowski
#forging #blacksmith #viking
I visit the blacksmith shop of Paul Krzyszoski (Toronto Blacksmith) to watch him forge me a hewing axe (Viking broad axe style) for some upcoming timber frame building projects at my wilderness homestead (at the log cabin in the forest). The biggest project this year will be the workshop, which I plan to build using timber framing techniques combine with log cabin building and stone masonry. I'm considering making at least one wall cordwood with sawdust and concrete and the remaining walls; squared timbers (which I'll do with the hewing axe). All of this will sit on a field stone foundation. I may build the woodshop on top of the stone cellar since the cellar will be mostly underground and can essentially function as the basement of the shop. I'm not sure about this yet as I need to excavate the ground by hand once the snow melts to see how deep the bedrock is and how difficult it is to dig in the rocky soil.
Paul does awesome work, forging axes, adzes, log dogs and other timber framing tools.

Long Term Food Storage for Self Reliance at the Off Grid Log Cabin
Long term food storage for self reliance is one of my primary concerns at the off grid log cabin, and the DIY bushcraft woodworking projects I engage in this week help me achieve this. The wilderness homestead in the forest is more self sufficient when it includes at least one year's worth of food in storage, and beans, rice, grains, legumes and canned preserved goods are critical to my survival in a SHTF situation. Prepping for a survival situation is easy to do in this remote location since I have access to endless forests, wild game, fish and plant-based wild edibles, but for things that I can't grow or find easily, storing things like grains and legumes in a safe place is one more step in my quest for complete food security and self reliance.
In this episode, I build more floating shelves with wood from the land to store food in mason jars. I make a couple of meals with food from the shelves, including split pea and rice soup and beans with rice.
Using a Husqvarna chainsaw, something I haven't done at the property since before I started building the cabin, I cut down a large dying maple tree and use a Granberg Alaskan chainsaw mill to cut a slab of wood for a leg for a new table for the log cabin.
Using power tools will continue to be the exception rather than the rule, but in order to achieve everything I have planned at the homestead this year, I need a chainsaw to mill my own lumber. One I'm done building the infrastructure, including all of the buildings, I'll go back to using hand tools only since I want to be able to live with as little inputs from the outside world as possible, including fuel and parts for equipment.
