Aftermath in Stockholm, number dead up to four
(7 Apr 2017) Stockholm police have raised the toll in the beer truck attack to four dead and 15 wounded.
The news comes as Swedish police launched a nationwide manhunt for the person or persons who drove a stolen beer truck down a pedestrian street in the Swedish capital and crashed it into a department store Friday afternoon.
Stockholm police say one person that can have some kind of connection to the attack has been arrested.
It's not clear if that person is the man in a police photo released earlier Friday, wearing a greenish hood at the top of an escalator.

Top Travel Destination here in STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN
Gamla stan also known as OLD TOWN. It’s made all the more authentic by being mostly pedestrianised, a rarity in modern Europe. It makes exploring the island all the more pleasurable. It’s not all quaint history though, there are lots of good cafes, restaurants, bars and even microbreweries in which to wile away an hour or two while watching the crowds – and even the occasional stag party from Britain – go by, before hitting the cobbles for more historic exploration.

The capital of Sweden, Stockholm originated as a fortress on a small island (holme in Swedish), part of an archipelago on the Baltic Sea at the mouth of Lake Mälaren. Tradition attributes construction of the fortress to Birger Jarl, one of Sweden's early kings, and dates it about 1250. Its strategic location helped protect against attacks by sea; it served as a lock on the entry to the navigable waters of Mälaren as well as a transit point for export of iron and copper from inland provinces. By the mid-fifteenth century, Stockholm was already referred to as Sweden's capital, although it was not yet the permanent residence of the monarch. With about six thousand inhabitants, mostly merchants and artisans, Stockholm was an important Baltic trading center. About half the population consisted of German merchants from cities such as Lübeck.
Physical changes to the city came about in connection with the Reformation and Gustav I's subsequent appropriation of Catholic church property, including the tearing down of cloisters and churches. Stockholm was still, however, a city within walls, mostly confined to the area now known as Gamla Stan (the Old Town). In the seventeenth century Stockholm entered a period of expansion related to Sweden's emergence as a European military power under Gustavus II Adolphus (ruled 1611–1632). The city's population grew from about 10,000 in 1620 to more than 40,000 by 1660. City authorities drew up new street plans during the 1630s, and the Swedish nobility used fortunes secured in foreign wars to build palatial residences. One result of these changes was the disappearance of most of the city's medieval towers and walls.
Stockholm Port and capital of Sweden, on Lake Mälar's outlet to the Baltic Sea. Founded in the mid-13th century, it became a trade centre dominated by the Hanseatic League. Gustavus I (Vasa) made it the centre of his kingdom, and ended the privileges of Hanseatic merchants. Stockholm became the capital of Sweden in 1436, and developed as an intellectual centre in the 17th century. Industrial development dates from the mid-19th century. Industries: textiles, clothing, paper and printing, rubber, chemicals, shipbuilding, beer, electronics, metal, machine manufacturing.

BRIT POPPPERS, BLUR ARE BACK ON TRACK WITH LUCKY 13
=========================================================
BLUR played a third warm-up gig for their new album '13' on Thursday night (11 February) at the Munchenbryggeriet (Munich Brewery) in Stockholm, Sweden. The unlikely venue was chosen because guitarist GRAHAM COXON'S girlfriend is Swedish. Previous sites for Blur warm-ups have included Dublin Castle, but this was the first warm up outside the UK.
It was a fitting location for the band to deliver tracks from their much anticipated and long-awaited 6th album. Described by many as unlike anything the band has previously released, the album represents the sound of a band 'becoming completely free'. In much the same way as at their previous low-key gig at Oxford Brookes University , they played the majority of the new album, in order, but neglecting the Robert Wyatt/Soft Machine-like epic 'Caramel' and the closer 'Optigan'. Damon asked the crowd to acknowledge the 50-strong crowd of record company employees from around the world and make them feel welcome - they're in your city. A reaction was not noticeable.
Blur followed their main set by returning to play 'Beetlebum', 'There's No Other Way', 'Popscene' and 'Song 2'.
The band have shunned the limelight over the past two years. Leading lights of the ill- fated Britpop movement, they were garlanded with Brit awards and Number 1 singles for their albums 'PARKLIFE' and 'THE GREAT ESCAPE' . Finding themselves increasingly dissatisfied with the trappings of Cool Britannia celebrity, the band underwent a period of creative regeneration, turning to more experimental music - and the likes of Beck, Pavement and Dub Music. That process has reached it's apotheosis on the new album '13'. Recorded and mixed with mix-master WILLIAM ORBIT , the album marks the artistic liberation of the band. The new way of working involved lengthy improvisations around song structures which Orbit would record and then edit. Lyrically, the album is inspired in large part by Albarn's break-up with long-term girlfriend Justin Frischman from 'Elastica'.
'13' marks the 10th anniversary of the band. Albarn and Graham Coxon met at Colchester's Stanway School and teamed first with DAVE ROWNTREE and later ALEX JAMES. The band reached the heights of commercial and critical success with 'PARKLIFE' which was followed by 'THE GREAT ESCAPE'. A well -publicised rivalry with Oasis gripped the nation in the Summer of 95, the corwning moment of which was Blur's entry at Number 1 with 'Country House'. But such songs were to spell the last of Damon's fascination with narrative and character songs, a move which was reflected in the album 'BLUR' in 1997.
Since the release of 'Blur', the band have diversed into solo projects. Damon has tested his acting skills in 'Face' and has part composed the music for director Antonia Bird's latest venture 'Ravenous'; Alex has partnered Damien Hirst with the fat Les Combo whilst Graham has founded his own record label.

Swedish PM vows continued efforts to help achieve peace in Korea
Sweden's prime minister Stefan Lofven has vowed to continue cooperative efforts to achieve lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula.
Stefan Lofven, who's visiting South Korea made the pledge during a speech to the National Assembly earlier today.
Our Kim Mok-yeon reports.
Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven pledged to continue efforts toward international peace, including on the Korean Peninsula.
During his speech at the National Assembly Library on Thursday, the Swedish leader stressed that South Korea and Sweden have been building a strong relationship for the past 60 years, and now they should join hands to tackle common global challenges such as growing inequality, the climate crisis and threats to international security.
Pointing to the North Korea nuclear issue, Prime Minister Lofven highlighted the need for joint efforts to tackle the problem and promised such efforts from the Swedish government.
The nonproliferation treaty will be crucial to this end and today we are more convinced than ever that the dismantling of nuclear weapons is needed to strengthen global peace and security including on the Korean peninsula.
We will remain committed to the advancement of peace and security on this peninsula and we will continue to encourage dialogue and diplomacy in this regard
Prior to his speech, the Prime Minister made a courtesy visit to South Korea's National Assembly speaker Moon Hee-sang.
The two sides spoke about the deep rooted ties between Seoul and Stockholm, and vowed to maintain their close relationship, as there is much to learn from each other's achievements.
The Swedish Prime Minister's speech has much significance as Sweden which is a neutral third country with diplomatic ties to both Pyongyang and Washington has been an active mediator in hosting the past working-level negotiations this year.
The speech was made at the request of National Assembly speaker Moon Hee-sang, to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Seoul and Stockholm.
With this, Prime Minister Lofven becomes the first Swedish leader to address the South Korean parliament.
