From The Bru to The Borough
From The Bru to The Borough is a true story of one man's battle with depression, suicide attempts, addiction and betrayal.
Born in 1971 in Cork, Ireland, Dan O'Riordan grew up in a middle-classed family on Cathal Brugha Place, Dungarvan. For many years Dan had suffered from severe bullying, physical, mental and sexual abuse and had fought the Irish Judiciary only to be betrayed by the very system that was designed to protect him.
From The Bru to The Borough takes you on a journey of tears, laughter, failures and success.

Headstones by Donal Power
A song about Abbeyside graveyard (lLYRICS BELOW). This video (poor quality but it was unplanned and luckily captured on a hand-held camcorder) was made in 2006. The graveyard, beside Abbeyside Strand, has headstones dating back to the 1600's and old tombs inside the Cloghás (the ruined Augustinian Abbey). I'm not ready to settle down there yet!
LOOKING BACK ONCE MORE, I SEE
CHILDHOOD FRIENDS AND FAMILY
AND MARY'S SMILING EYES AS WE
WERE WALKING SIDE BY SIDE
IT SEEMS LIKE ONLY YESTERDAY
WE WHISPERED WORDS THAT LOVERS SAY
AND FIFTY YEARS AGO TODAY
WE WED IN ABBEYSIDE.
MEMORIES I TREASURE OF MARY AND ME
SHARING DAYS TOGETHER IN THE VILLAGE BY THE SEA
CHORUS
HEADSTONES STANDING ROW BY ROW
TELLING TALES OF LONG AGO
OF PEOPLE I WILL NEVER KNOW
WHO CROSSED THE GREAT DIVIDE
AND YET I FEEL A PART OF ME
IS MINGLED WITH THEIR HISTORY
JUST AS THE RUINS AND THE SEA
ARE PART OF ABBEYSIDE
NOTHING LASTS FOREVER, YET, IT SEEMED TO ME
SHE WOULD LEAVE ME NEVER, IN THE VILLAGE BY THE SEA.
BUT TIME AND TIDE FOREVER FLOW
DAY BY DAY WE ONWARD GO
MY HEAD IS BENT, MY STEP IS SLOW
SINCE DARLING MARY DIED
ALONE I WALK ALONG THE STRAND
ONE SET OF FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND
WHERE ONCE WE BOTH WALKED HAND IN HAND
IN LOVELY ABBEYSIDE
Youghal Railway Station 1960s
The arrival of the Cork to Youghal train at the Youghal Railway Station back in the 1950/60s approx. The train can be seen on the railway turntable, a device for turning railway rolling stock, usually locomotives, so that they can be moved back in the direction from which they came. The Atlantic and Pacific Hotels and Clancy's Railway Bar can be seen in background. A private coach with bus driver Paddy Lawlor and passengers can be seen at the end of the clip. Filmed by Bobby Chapple. Edit by Michael Hussey.
