The British Library is the national library of the United Kingdom and the second largest library in the world by number of items catalogued. British Library holds well over 150 million items from many countries.
As a legal deposit library, the British Library receives copies of all books produced in the United Kingdom and Ireland, including a significant proportion of overseas titles distributed in the UK. The British Library is a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
The British Library is a major research library, with items in many languages and in many formats, both print and digital: books, manuscripts, journals, newspapers, magazines, sound and music recordings, videos, play-scripts, patents, databases, maps, stamps, prints, drawings. The Library's collections include around 14 million books, along with substantial holdings of manuscripts and historical items dating back as far as 2000 BC. In addition to receiving a copy of every publication produced in the UK and Ireland (approximately 8,000 per day), the Library has a programme for content acquisitions. The Library adds some three million items every year occupying 9.6 kilometres (6.0 mi) of new shelf space.
Prior to 1973, the Library was part of the British Museum. The British Library Act 1972 detached the library department from the museum, but it continued to host the now separated British Library in the same Reading Room and building as the museum until 1997. The Library is now located in a purpose-built building on the north side of Euston Road in St Pancras, London (between Euston railway station and St Pancras railway station), and has a document storage centre and reading room near Boston Spa, near Wetherby in West Yorkshire. The Euston Road building is classified as a Grade I listed building, of exceptional interest for its architecture and history.

Join me for a quick overview of the abandoned East & West Yorkshire Union Railway based in Leeds & Wakefield, West Yorkshire. This is the introduction to the full series where I follow the line of the old abandoned railway.
This video is a graphical overview explaining the history and purpose of the line, it will form part of a multi video series where I visit and explore different sections of the line on foot. A hole appeared in the middle of the road near Boston Spa Academy, Clifford Moor Road, Boston Spa.

The City of Leeds is a local government district of West Yorkshire, England, governed by Leeds City Council, with the status of a city and metropolitan borough. The metropolitan district includes the administrative centre Leeds and the ten towns of Farsley, Garforth, Guiseley, Horsforth, Morley, Otley, Pudsey, Rothwell, Wetherby and Yeadon. It has a population of 766,399, making it the second largest local government district in England by population behind Birmingham; it is also the second largest metropolitan district by area behind Doncaster.
The current city boundaries were set on 1 April 1974 by the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972, as part a reform of local government in England. The city is a merger of eleven former local government districts; the unitary City and County Borough of Leeds combined with the municipal boroughs of Morley and Pudsey, the urban districts of Aireborough, Garforth, Horsforth, Otley and Rothwell, and parts of the rural districts of Tadcaster, Wharfedale and Wetherby from the West Riding of Yorkshire.

A return visit to this oddly large and apparently prosperous village.
Lupton family
The Lupton family are of Yorkshire origin and first achieved prominence in ecclesiastical and academic circles in England in the 16th century through the fame of Dr Roger Lupton, provost of Eton College and chaplain to Henry VIII. By the Georgian era, the family's fame was cemented in the Northern English city of Leeds. Described in the City of Leeds archives as landed gentry, a political and business dynasty, they had become successful woollen cloth merchants and manufacturers who flourished during the Industrial Revolution and traded throughout northern Europe, the Americas and Australia.
As Members of Parliament – Arnold Lupton – and local politicians, the Lupton family contributed to the political life of both the UK and to the civic life of Leeds well into the 20th century. Several members were close to the British Royal Family and particularly philanthropic. Many were Mayor and later Lord Mayor of Leeds and were progressive in their views. They were associated with both the Church of England and the Unitarian church in England. The Lupton Residences of the University of Leeds are named after members of the family and the world's largest law firm, DLA Piper, was established by solicitor Sir Charles Lupton as Dibb-Lupton.
