BELGIAN BEER TASTING - at the best Bar in Bruges, Belgium (Volkscafe Sint-Jakobs)
Belgium is world renowned for it's beer, and we knew our trip wouldn't be complete without sampling at least some (a lot) of it! We knew the best place to go as well, Volkscafe Sint-Jakobs, a cosy neighbourhood bar right in the city centre of Bruges. Run by the brilliant Tom, by far the best bar owner we've ever come across! He's so knowledgeable about all the beer he sells and has created such a warm and friendly environment in what we now like to call, the best bar in Bruges!
Check out Volkscafe Sint Jakobs on Facebook for directions and more information -
We had 3 incredible beers each. Rebecca started off lightly with a Lindemans Pecheresse, a beautiful peach lambic, before moving onto the hanging Gentse Strop and finally a Blond Ename, brewed by the oldest brewery in Belgium, Roman. Nathan went in heavy straight away with an Adrien Brouwer Winter Wood, a strong but sweet winter beer which turned out to be the favourite of the night. Second up was a nice refreshing wheat beer and finally a Cherry Kriek Max fruit beer to end the night.
Thanks again to Tom for having us and for running such an awesome bar! And thanks to Alain for putting us in touch!

IN BRUGES PART DEUX: BRUGES HARDER! Bruges, Belgium - Leonard Does Europe S2 E6
Due to being advised that Disneyland Paris required five days to be fully appreciated, I was only able to allocate one full day in Bruges during my last European trip. After having a miserable time in Disneyland, and falling completely in love with Bruges, I vowed to rectify this huge planning mistake by making it my home base in Belgium for five full days on this trip.
So, early on a Thursday morning, we headed to CPH for our $72 per-person Brussels Airlines flight to BRU, Belgium’s main airport. While waiting for the flight, we blew all of our remaining Danish Kroners on booze at the Duty Free shop, which was good, since the damn things aren’t used anywhere else in the world. After a short ninety minutes in the air, we landed in Brussels and boarded a train to Bruges Central. From there it was a loud luggage-clattering-on-cobblestones fifteen minute walk to the AirBnb.
Prior to my previous European trip, people kept telling me that Bruges was a “mini-Amsterdam”, and my reaction was always: “Why would I want to go to a small version of Amsterdam? Why not just go Amsterdam?” It wasn’t until I actually visited the town that I realized it’s not just a smaller version of Amsterdam, it’s also much more quaint and charming and relaxing and cozy.
This revelation was reinforced after having time to explore new places, as well as revisit others that I’d already been to, but which were new to my mother and Monika. While I certainly enjoyed revisiting the canal tour, ordering a strong beer sampler at 2be Bar (wrongly identified as the Beer Museum in my video), eating mustard-dipped aged gouda and downing a dangerously smooth 11% ABV Straffe Hendrik Quad at De Halve Maan brewery, and quaffing the world-famous heady Tripel at the nearly impossible to find alleyway bar De Garre, there were plenty of interesting new experiences, too, such as:
-- The Old Chocolate House, which bills itself as home to the best hot chocolate in Bruges. It’s served in an interesting manner: they give you a bunch of chocolate chips in an edible chocolate cup, along with a mug full of steaming milk, into which you whisk the chocolate. I guess the idea is to let you carefully achieve your preferred milk-to-chocolate taste ratio, but my mom is a chocolate fiend, so she just dumped them all in straight away. I’m not a big sweets guy, but she absolutely loved it, and was also smitten with the Belgian waffle we ordered.
--A weekend flea market along the Dijver canal, which was filled with old weird trinkets.
--A visit to the Basilica of the Holy Blood, which houses a cloth supposedly used by Joseph of Arimathea to clean the blood off of Jesus after he died. Unfortunately, we weren’t aware that the cloth is only shown to the public every Friday (and every day from May 3rd to 17th), so we didn’t get to see it.
--Beers at ‘t Brugs Beertje, a world-famous “brown bar” that carries three hundred different bottled Belgian beers, and five drafts. Every beer is served in its own unique and special glass; even if they only have one bottle of a particular beer, that beer will have a glass on the shelf just waiting to be used!
--Dinner at La Dentelliere, a charming restaurant across from the swan-filled Minnewater Park. Like many restaurants in Bruges, they serve the local specialty: mussels in a variety of sauces, including cream, white wine, garlic, cream and curry, cream and white wine, and cream and beer. Being a vegetarian, I didn’t partake, but I did get cheese croquettes, which sound much fancier than what they are: fried cheese.
--A long but pleasant walk to the St. Janshuis and Koelewei windmills, which are on the east side of town on the outer canal ring. St. Janshuis was built in 1770 and is actually a functional windmill that still grinds flour.
Even losing my $500 DJI Spark drone in a canal (full story at didn’t put a damper on what ended up being a lovely trip to what must be one of the loveliest cities in the world.

Wow it's been so long since I caught up with you all! This week I visited Bruges to explore things to do in Bruges in one day. If you're wondering what to do in Bruges in 24 hours then this is a recommendation for how I spent it:
- Take the train into Bruges
- Walk from the station into the main square, it's only around 15 mins walk
- Explore the main square and tower as well as the back alleys and courtyards
- Sample one of over 400 hundred beers in the famous Belgium beer bars
- Try the chocolate and beers in the shops close to the main square
- Have a bite to eat before returning back to your hotel
Thanks to you guys for being Car Friends and joining me on my adventure into the life of a modern male x

BELFRY OF BRUGES & BRUGES BEER TASTING EXPERIENCE
We are in Bruges! (Brugge or Bruges?? It's actually both...)
There are so many things to do in Bruges. Join us as we explore the Belfry of Bruges at the Markt Square, go on a canal boat tour, drink the best hot chocolate in Bruges and Steve samples some delectable beer as he tries out the Bruges beer tasting experience at Le Trappiste, one of the coziest, if a bit touristic, bars in Bruges!
The Belfry of Bruges is an imposing structure at the heart of the city and it was no small feat to climb the 366 steps all the way up to the top and take in the magnificent views, as well as get to see and hear the bells chiming their wonderful songs. It was great to be at the scene of one of our favourite movies... you know the one ;)
We try the best hot chocolate in Bruges and unfortunately every other hot chocolate we have from now on will just not be on par with the chocolatey, thick, gooey deliciousness in a mug that we got to try at Vero Caffe, a lovely cafe serving vegan options, tucked away in a sleepy square.
The canal boat tour we decided to take was definitely our highlight of our trip and definitely one of the best things to do in Bruges. We got a whole new perspective on the medieval city as we were whisked down waterways as old as the city itself.
Le Trappiste is a wonderful bar in a vaulted, brick cellar and for a reasonable price you can saunter down the steps, up to the bar and order 5 beers out of a lengthy list of 21 artisinal ales, beers, lambics and stouts as smooth jazz plays in the background. Steve was excited to try this beer tasting experience to say the least. It was a fantastic way to experience the nightlife in Bruges.

Colin Farrell in Bruges. (chocolate, lace, beer - Belgium vlog with a drone).
In Bruges. One day in Bruges. In the search for Colin Farrell, chocolate, lace & beer.
Vlogging (with drone too) in Bruges (Brugge), Belgium. 4k, top10, lace, chocolate and beer-but it goes way beyond that!
This is the city where the famous movie In Bruges directed by Martin McDonagh was shot
The main roles were played by Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes. This movie was a reason for us to visit the city.
During the Middle Ages, Burges was one of the major commercial centres of Europe afterwards it lost on importance to the newer port nearby.
150 years ago the town was rediscovered and became a major tourist destination.
Every year, the city hosts an important religious celebration – the Procession of the Holy Blood.
The date of the event changes from year to year, depending on Easter.
The procession began in 1149 when Thierry, Count of Flanders returned from a Crusade, bringing back a Relic with the Precious Blood of Jesus.
Nowadays thousands of pilgrims come to Bruges to see it.
A huge procession takes place, with a carnival-like atmosphere due to the people dressed in medieval clothes.
The Saint Saviour's Cathedral is Bruges' oldest parish church. Build beginning with the 12 century, it has amongst its treasures a rood loft with an organ,
medieval tombs, belgian tapestries and a rich collection of Flemish paintings (14th-18th century).
The chocolate museum is more or less interstinbg but for sure very tasty and it's the place to meet nice people!
Bruges is literally the city of chocolate. But If you want to buy traditional chocolate, look for shops with the inscription handmade
Bruges is truely a world of castles. More than 50 of Flanders' 470 castles are located nearby.
There are more than 80 canals and bridges in Bruges, which lead to the title of Venice of the North.
Education is highly praised in this city- there are several colleges and universities.
Leaving school before the age of 18 is prohibited by law!
The city is also known for its exquisitely beautiful lace products. No wonder- you are in Belgium!
The 83-metre-high belfry of Bruges nicknamed Belfort, was initially built in the 12th century, but had to be rebuilt several times due to fires.
In order to visit it you have to wait in a long line- maybe even for hours, during holiday season.
Jewellery is another thing the city is famous for- the jewels are polished here with a special, several centuries old technique.
Saying Belgium you are saying Beer, and that applies for Bruges too. There are several centuries-old breweries in the town.
The HISTORIUM virtual experience museum is another must-see in Bruges.
So, with or without Collin Farrell Bruges is definitely a must-see Destination.

BEER, BOATS & BEAUTY IN BRUGES - Bruges, Belgium - Leonard Does Europe S1 E39
After the dumpy Disneyland Paris, Bruges was a welcome relief. It looks like a mini-Amsterdam, with small canals, swans, and gabled architecture. Except the beer is much better in Bruges than in Amsterdam! I honestly had no idea I was going to like it so much, and was pissed that I'd spent so many days at Disneyland instead of spending more time here.
De Halve Maan is the charming brewery I visited, where I drank the Straffe Hendrik Quad (11% alcohol!).
2be is the place where I had the strong beer sampler, which also came with cheese, some sort of cracker mix, and some sausages. Incredible view of the canals on their deck outside.
Staminee De Garre is the alley bar with the world-famous house Tripel that is only served there - you can't get it anywhere else in the world! Totally worth the trip. Good lucking finding the place, though; I knew where it was and it still took me 30 minutes of searching!

For our two year wedding anniversary, my husband and I decided to travel around Europe for two weeks! One of his friends recommended that we check out the fairytale town of Bruges in Belgium for a couple of days, so we decided to take the train from Paris to Brussels and then another train to Bruges. We actually got lost the first day (so this vlog is on the shorter side since I didn't start vlogging until we were at our hotel late the first night) and I 100% forgot to do a hotel room tour since I was too excited to explore outside with the short amount of time we had, but I hope you still enjoy this travel vlog of my time in Bruges! xx Audrie

// ABOUT ME //
A little bit about me - I'm a content creator on Instagram, YouTube, and on my blog at AudrieStorme.com living in Orange County, California (originally from the San Francisco Bay Area). I started posting outfit of the day (OOTD) photos on Instagram about two years ago when I was living in Dallas, Texas for work. I loved taking photos and posting on Instagram so much that I decided to expand and try out YouTube and blogging as well.
When I was living in the city, my personal style was a bit more streetwear 90's grunge, but now that I live in Southern California and closer to the ocean, my style has become a lot more cozy and comfortable with a lot of bohemian influences.
If I had to describe my fashion sense on my blog, Instagram aesthetic, and YouTube editing style now, I'd probably describe it as modern bohemian with an edge, since I tend to wear and do things that might be considered unconventional to others. I'm not sure if that is true, but since I've moved back to California, I just find that I gravitate to what is easiest and effortless for me while living near the beach where it always feels like summer.
Thank you so much for stopping by my YouTube channel and I hope that you enjoy what you'll find here! I love fashion, beauty (especially hair styling and bohemian braids), DIY projects and how to videos, making travel diaries of all the places that I'm lucky enough to visit, and sharing my (for lack of a better term) modern bohemian lifestyle. If you'd like to see more, please feel free to subscribe to my channel. Hope to see you in the comments below!
With love,
Audrie
