Whitby
a slideshow of pictures I had taken on a trip to Whitby in Yorkshire, England in September 2013. I had a great time plently of ale and many nice, friendly characters, such a relaxing place to escape the inner City madness. There's the award winning Magpie 'Fish n' Chips restaurant' which is worth a visit and the abbey at the top of a 199 steps, a kipper hut, great pubs i.e The Ship Inn, Buck Inn, Black Swan, a seafood haven. burger bars, candy shops, outdoor market, arcades, the pier and harbour, boat trips, buskers, karaoke in a few pubs, Whitby is a fishing port full of a character and is the place where the Dracula novels were thought up.

Cow and Calf Rocks to Dick Hudsons walk
July 2012. We walked from The Cow and Calf rocks near Ilkley to Dick Hudsons pub and back again. It was 24C and sunny. We walked over some of the most beautiful moorland in England. We walked past The Twelve Apostles which are Bronze Age pieces of gritstone estimated to have been there over 7,000 years. Parts of the walk were quite boggy but from the tops you can see Menwith Hill, Ferrybridge Power Station and beyond as wellas amazing Yorkshire Dales scenery.

How to photograph Pub Signs.
When you photograph a pub sign, you are inevitably shooting from below and pointing the camera upwards, and, more often than not, having to shoot at an angle as well. Unavoidably, therefore, what your camera records is not a rectangle but an irregular quadrilateral, with all four sides of the sign of different lengths and with no 90⁰ angles. Furthermore, there is bound to be a lot of extraneous detail. To correct these faults, you need to use photo editing software (PaintShop Pro / Photoshop / Photoshop Elements -- there may be others) and correct the perspective using a Perspective Correction / Transform tool followed by a crop. You can also correct for colour and/or contrast (especially useful where the sign has faded over the years) and possibly clone out distracting features (there are far better ways of doing this than using the clone tool, but that's another matter).
Ideal conditions for pub sign photography are overcast conditions to avoid unsightly shadows and as little wind as possible.

Malham, North Yorkshire, England. Harry Potter location in the Deathly Hallows. Photos and a short video of two very different days in Malham, North Yorkshire, showing Janet's Foss waterfall, Gordale Scar and Malham Cove, In summer we saw a kilted climber ascend the waterfall at Gordale Scar. Then some lads took a large tent up a steep hill. The tent is already erected! Next is the wonderland of winter. We always end up in a pub after a walk, no exception here!
