Just on the day the Burren Slow Food Festival 2018 kicked off, Niall Sabongi from The Klaw Café in Dublin Templebar cooked a wonderful breakfast meal. Easy to do and yet sophisticated - Burren Hot Smoked Organic Salmon, Poached Egg, Wild Garlic and Cheeky Mustard Hollandaise.
Niall also did a very informative (and delicious) cookery demo the next day at the Burren Slow Food Festival in Lisdoonvarna, this time with oysters.

Mary Kennedy from the popular current feautres programme Nationwide visits Galway's Seafest which centers around everything to do with the sea - research, family-friendly activities allowing explorations of things to do with the sea, and of course food. In this video, Birgitta Hedin Curtin, owner-manager of the Burren Smokehouse, is being interviewed by Mary Kennedy and even gets to taste Burren hot smoked Irish Organic Salmon.
Launching the TASTE THE ATLANTIC - SALMON EXPERIENCE at the Burren Smokehouse
The 25th October saw the opening of the brand-new visitor experience - Taste the Atlantic - Salmon Experience.
Guest of Honour was Ms Sabina Higgins, wife of Ireland's President Michael D Higgins, who was the first one to get a sneak preview of the interactive visitor experience. She then cut the ribbon and declared the experience open.
The new Salmon Experience Visitor Centre is a self-guided interactive experience which is all about Irish Wild and Irish Organic Salmon Aquaculture. It was developed in conjunction with BIM (Bord Iascaigh Mhara) as a major contributor, and also supported by Fáilte Ireland, as part of the Taste the Atlantic Trail. The exhibition explores the history of salmon fishing as well as the sustainable aquaculture in picture and word. It goes on to explaining nutritional values.
Local school children were invited to attend an awards ceremony at the Burren Storehouse. Local artist Maria Kerin was so kind as to be the judge for all the many pictures and sculptures that were submitted by three different schools in the area.
Ms Sabina Higgins then had the great pleasure of handing the awards to the winning artists.
