Maritime of My Life (Pt. 90) - The Cat Ferry from Yarmouth, NS to Portland, ME
July 14, 2017 - The cost of taking the fast Cat (Catamaran) ferry from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia to Portland, Maine is a bit high, but I was more than willing to pay for this one way trip across the Atlantic Ocean to New England, rather than back-tracking for 2 days through Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
At 5.5 hours, the 341 km trip from Canada to the United States was a comfortable ride, but unfortunately, you didn't see much in the way of land from the moment you leave Yarmouth to an hour outside of Portland, in Stephen King territory.
The amenities aboard were good, though - gift shops, cafeteria, a bar area (which I didn't partake in, as I had to drive, eventually), as well as make-shift movie theatre to entertain the kids on the journey. We also had some live music, courtesy of the Nova Scotian group Celtic Rant, to get us into the toe-tapping seaside mood.
Being from British Columbia, I'm quite used to ferries; this boat was impressive but didn't have as much as, say, BC Ferries does; the areas on the outside of the ship were incredibly limited.

Bay Ferries Limited, or simply, Bay Ferries, is a ferry company operating in eastern Canada and is headquartered in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. It is a subsidiary of Northumberland Ferries Limited (NFL) and a sister company to the defunct Bay Ferries Great Lakes Limited.
Bay Ferries began operations in 1997 upon being awarded the operating licenses for ferry routes in the Bay of Fundy and Gulf of Maine which were being discontinued by federal Crown corporation Marine Atlantic as part of cost-cutting measures.

At this time there are no ferries running between the two points because of economic downturn.
Hopefully service will resume to allow easier access to the beauty of the land of Nova Scotia.

Family RVing in Canada // Ferry to NOVA SCOTIA // You Be You with Zack Saint
This week we had the opportunity to take our motorhome on the Northumberland Ferry Line across the Northumberland Strait from PEI to Nova Scotia! We didn't even know you could take your RV on a ferry. What an adventure! They packed us in like sardines with several other heavy buses and semi trucks and we floated across to the other side in less than an hour and a half, which saved us MANY hours of driving. That was definitely a first for us in our rv life!
Once across, we quickly made our way to Truro where we met up with a fellow YouTuber, Zack Saint, who talked video games with our boys and shared with us the vision for his channel with us, which is to encourage others to be themselves and be passionate about what they love no matter what people may think or say! Zack is a great guy and we want to encourage everyone to go check out his channel here on YouTube, especially if you love games and other nerdery :) Thanks for hanging out with us and showing us around your beautiful hometown, Zack!!!

Later in the week, while Trent was flying to Louisiana, Siobhan took the boys to the oldest drive-in diner in Canada, The Chickenburger! Started in 1940, they were putting chicken on a bun before Chick-fil-a was even thought of ;) We love us some Chick-fil-a, but The Chickenburger was such a unique, fun experience! chickenburger.com
After The Chickenburger we got to use our family ASTC reciprocal museum membership to visit the Discovery Centre in Halifax. What a blast! We truly love being able to visit children's museums all over the country (and outside too) with our whole family...many of them completely free!!!! It's perfect for family travel!
