Cricket legend Stephen Fleming and PGA Tour winner Phil Tataurangi join Mark Leishman on a boys winter golfing road trip through the South Island. First stop is The Cairns, a 9-hole golf course with stunning views across Lake Tekapo and the Mackenzie Country.

When we go on family vacations, we've made it a tradition to include golfing as one of the activities on our list of things to do because my dad is a big fan of golf, so he really enjoys the quality time we spend together on the golf course as a family!
So when we visited New Zealand, we came across the Cairns Golf Course at Lake Tekapo and we thought it would be a great place to spend the afternoon. The course itself wasn't the best we've seen BUT the view was amazing...we had Lake Tekapo and many glaciers as our backdrop...not bad at all! The important thing is, we enjoyed the time spent together as a family and we had a lot of laughter and fun together :)

We are arriving in Cromwell in the Otago region of New Zealand. We’re going to wind down the activities for the day with a relaxing social activity that happens to be the most popular sport in New Zealand with the highest participation rate... It’s golf! Cromwell Golf Club seems like a good place for our first round of golf in New Zealand.
Golf is an affordable sport in New Zealand with some fantastic golf courses found all over New Zealand. Cromwell Golf Club is the most inland golf course in New Zealand with consistent sunny weather so the course is in good dry condition. We play golf to the surroundings of mountains, lakes and fruit orchards. Aside from the fact that we are terrible and playing golf, we have so much fun playing golf in New Zealand. If you’re spending time in Queenstown, Cromwell is a short drive from Queenstown so is also worth considering for some golf in Queenstown.

We have rented a Toyota Rav4 from Apex Rent a Car
What a fun vehicle to drive! Was quite challenging on the first day of driving it (driving on the left side of the road and the steering wheel on the right side). I highly recommend renting a car from Apex!
We were really blessed to have this wonderful sunny weather for us to enjoy this experience. This is got to be the most amazing road trip ever. A vacation of a lifetime!

How to save money in New Zealand?? Coupons, Apps & Pamphlets!!
I just got back from my amazing New Zealand trip and I could tell you, it’s pricey alright! If you’re planning to visit there soon, I learnt a few money saving tricks along the way that might come in handy for you! My first tip is, make sure to go check out the information centres (or i-Sites) and pick up all the pamphlets of the activities that you plan to do. The reason is, they might have discounts on them that might be useful to you. It might just be a few dollars but it adds up!
My second tip to keep an eye out for a copy of the “Arrival Magazine”... these are loaded with coupons and savings! They range from discounts on activities, tours, and even free gifts! So spend a few minutes and cut out all the ones that are applicable to you!
My final tip is that if you’re not able to get your hands on the “Arrival Magazine”, don’t worry, download the app! Type in “Arrival New Zealand” and it should be the first thing that appears. When you open it, the neat thing about it is that it sorts out the deals in different categories. I like using the “By Region” one so when I get to that city, I know which deals are available.
