The Royal Canadian Navy is the naval force of Canada. The RCN is one of three environmental commands within the unified Canadian Armed Forces. As of 2017, Canada's navy operates 12 frigates, 4 patrol submarines, 12 coastal defence vessels and 8 unarmed patrol/training vessels, as well as several auxiliary vessels. The Royal Canadian Navy consists of 8,500 Regular Force and 5,100 Primary Reserve sailors, supported by 5,300 civilians. Vice-Admiral Ron Lloyd is the current Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy and Chief of the Naval Staff.Founded in 1910 as the Naval Service of Canada and given royal sanction on 29 August 1911, the Royal Canadian Navy was amalgamated with the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Canadian Army to form the unified Canadian Armed Forces in 1968, after which it was known as Maritime Command until 2011. In 2011, its historical title of Royal Canadian Navy was restored. Over the course of its history, the RCN has served in the First and Second World Wars, the Korean War, the Persian Gulf War, the War in Afghanistan and numerous United Nations peacekeeping missions and NATO operations.

Tour THE CANADIAN CLOCK MUSEUM in Deep River, Ontario

This short video created by 2012 summer student Nick Speranzini shows some of the exhibits at Canada's only clock museum, which is located in the town of Deep River, Ontario.

The museum's focus is on Canadian-made clocks from the early 1800s to 2005. The extensive collections include many examples from The Arthur Pequegnat Clock Company (Berlin/Kitchener, Ontario ca 1904 to 1941, Harry Snider's two Toronoto-based companies (1950 to 1976), and Westclox Canada (Peterborough, Ontario 1920 to mid 1980s).

The museum has its own reference library with more than four hundred titles that cover all aspects of horology, including time-teaching books for children.

Visit the museum's fact-filled web site at canclockmuseum.ca, which includes pictures of most of the clocks in its collections. Requests for information about family clocks are welcome.

The only Clock Museum in Canada, telling the Canadian story in located just off highway 17 in Deep River Ontario. Just over 2,500 clocks call this place home and over 600 are displayed on the floor.

Since his first purchase of a mantle clock in 1965, Jim Connell has amassed a large collection of clocks of all types with an emphasis on those with a Canadian origin. As his collection and knowledge grew, Jim prepared and presented numerous articles, talks and displays on Canadian clocks and their history. He is the respected author of the Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Clocks and he co-authored Early Canadian Timekeepers and The Canada and Hamilton Clock Companies with Jane Varkaris. Jim has served as President of the Toronto Chapter and also served as a Director of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors from 1987 to 1991.
