Bee Cliff Cabins, LLC., nestled in the mountain valley of Siam on the Watauga River. The cabins are a great place for fishing, hunting, or just a peaceful family get-a-way. Sycamore Shoals State Park, Elizabethton TN.
When rain was wrecking my hiking opportunities in the Unaka Wilderness, Carole and I first headed to the Gray Fossil Site. After that we drove over to the nearby Sycamore Shoals State Park. This is considered by the State of Tennessee to be their most important historical site. They have lavished a lot of money there on a slick visitors center, a museum, reconstructions, trails, and maintenance. It is indeed an impressive park and--best of all--it is completely free of charge to visit!
They not only covered the significance of its importance as a Revolutionary War location, but also its importance as a military outpost (Fort Unaka) when the European settlers were wresting control of the land from the native Cherokee Nation. They do manage to treat the plight of the Cherokee with a great deal of sympathy.
We both highly recommend a visit to this park. There is a tremendous lot of history in this part of Tennessee.

A Day in the Life # 29 Sycamore Shoals State Historic Site
In this Day in the Life, I visit Sycamore Shoals State Historic site in Elizabethton, TN. This was the site of the Watauga Settlement, The Watauga Convention, the muster grounds for the OverMountain Men and site of The Transylvania Purchase. Today it is maintained as a living history museum and is a testament to the contributions Appalachia made in our efforts to become free from the control of the crown. This site also highlights for me the fluidity and constant evolution of history. What will our contribution to history be on both a societal and personal level?
