Stepping further out, doing the unthinkable and actually LEAVING the Winter Gardens to see these guys.
21 Cedar Tavern
Turn left into Deansgate. Before turning left into Edward Street note the art deco façade to the Sun Chambers further down Deansgate on the right. Turn left into Edward Street. The left-hand side of this street retains much of its original domestic character, although the buildings gradually became lodging houses in the later 19th Century. Notice the Telephone Exchange on the right with interesting 1960s' ceramic tiled panels. Beyond that the Blackpool Post Office extension built in 1930 is an iron-framed building clad in red brick.
Continue ahead to Cedar Square, passing The Cedar Tavern (21) on the left.
This classic early faience building originally opened in 1931 as the Liverpool & London &
Globe Insurance Company's Blackpool Offices before becoming a pub in the late
twentieth century.

27 Scruffy Murphy's
Turn right into Corporation Street noting Rawcliffe's building on the corner with stone plaques. Rebuilt in 1912, it replaced a 19th century ironmongery. Pass The Grapes (Scruffy Murphy's) public house (27). See also Lloyd's Bank built in 1938, a good
example of a purpose-built inter-war bank.
Scruffy Murphy's Formerly the Grapes Hotel, this public house was rebuilt by Burtonwood Brewery Company in 1931 on the site of the 19th century Grapes Inn. The building retains many original features including timber bar counter, snug and stained glass windows to the former Smoke Room. Architect J. B. Singleton was a local man, as were all the contractors.
