Choco Libre Nitro (Mexican Hot Chocolate Imperial Stout) | BrewDog | Beer Review | #224
Today, I'm going to be reviewing a beer from BrewDog, and it's their Choco Libre Nitro. They're calling this a Mexican Hot Chocolate Imperial Stout, which is an Imperial Stout brewed with cocoa nibs, cinnamon, chili, coffee and vanilla ... in a nitro can. Apparently, they're using habanero as the chili pepper, so that has piqued my interest, as well. Let's see what this one has to offer!
Commercial Description:
A Mil Máscaras of flavour. This Imperial stout will wrestle your taste buds to the canvas in a Tag Team of insane sensory assault. Coffee, chocolate and a little spice on the nose. Dark chocolate mixes with mocha, vanilla and spice, all layered over a smooth nitro-styling you never saw coming. This set-up finishes with a delicate habanero drop kick as the bell sounds.

Rob and Rich have named the beer Dead Metaphor, after a lot of the nomenclature and meaningless buzz words and phrases that are bandied about in the world of beer writing. This beer should be sipped for instant inspiration. - See more at:

Ingredients: Maris Otter, Crystal malt, Caramalt; Centennial, Columbus, Simcoe hops. Dry Hops: Centennial, Columbus, Simcoe. IBU 150
This little bottle has a grandiloquent story to tell. 2,204 malted Maris Otter grains gave all they had to offer the world to provide the robustly delicate toffee malt canvas for the ensuing epic. 6 Hop Cones willingly sacrificed themselves in fiery cauldron that is our brew kettle to ensure your mouth is left feeling punished and puckering for more. 9,900,000,000 yeast cells frantically fermented their little hearts out as the sugars were magically turned into alcohol in the dark depths of our fermentation tanks. This explicit ale has more hops and bitterness that any other beer brewed in the UK. This is an extreme beer rollercoaster for freaks, gypsies and international chess superstars.
Note this is for the new petrol blue coloured labels with white lettering, which is 9.2%. Ratings for the older bottles with with bright blue label and black lettering should go under the first edition.

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
bottled,special
The beer is a 5.8% barrel-aged baby scotch ale called Bourbon Baby, which is the ideal accompaniment to this burger as the honey notes and spicy sweetness meld beautifully with the rich beef and tangy BBQ sauce. Bourbon Baby is light bodied and low ABV and packed with toasted shortcake and blossom honey flavours. We threw a load of First Gold, Willamette and Mt Hood hops at this beer and then barrel aged it for added complexity. The barrel ageing adds a demonic, dark vanilla twist. Rich brown sugar, hints of smoke, spice, chocolate and raisins are just some of the multitude of flavours that have developed.

BrewDog - Libertine Black Ale (Black IPA) 7.2%
Brewed by BrewDog
Style: Black IPA
Ellon, Aberdeenshire, Scotland
Serve in Shaker, Tulip
COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Libertine Black Ale is a 7.2% wickedly decadent black beast of a beer that has been hammered with the epic Simcoe hop. With a drinkability that defies its colour and depth of flavour, Libertine delivers a dark hop bomb combining the west coast hop awesomeness of an IPA, the dark and indulgent malt flavours of big stout with a lightness on the palate that bellies the punch that this beer packs. Bags of flavour and loads of hops. We intend to bottle some of this batch for those not lucky enough to make it to a BrewDog Bar to try it. ABV from 7% to 7.2%.
