Dunster To Montacute House National Trust Fun ○ Kirsty Dee
We went to Dunster, Dorset and Montacute House in Somerset exploring this week. From a trip to Dunster Castle (National Trust) to Tarr Steps to Sidmouth Bay. We stayed in the Luttrell Arms which was lovely. Then we have a visit to Throop in Bournemouth and I had a day in Poole Quay for the Robin James Hair and Spa Salon Bloggers event. Then finished the week with two trips to parks in Dorchester and a visit to the National Trust's Montacute House in Somerset.
I hope you enjoyed this weekly vlog, I don't always do travel/family vlogger stuff but was so nice to vlog our adventures this week for memories.
For more pics of Dorset, Tarr Steps, Dunster etc I'm on Instagram @kirstydeeshares

Thatched Cottage
GORGEOUS THATCHED COTTAGE WITH ANNEXE
SITUATED IN A RURAL LOCATION
LOVELY LARGE GARDEN AND BEAUTIFULLY PRESENTED
It is very rare to have the chance of owning a THATCHED COTTAGE in this area, but it is even rarer to find one with such a LARGE SUNNY GARDEN, ANNEX and lovely views. Many people yearn to live in the countryside, but still want good access to shops, schools and link roads. If that rings true with you, then maybe this is the perfect match! The hamlet of Warninglid is around 2 miles west, Staplefield with its lovely village community and 2 country pubs overlooking the village cricket pitch lies 1 mile along the lane and Cuckfield 4 miles east leading then on to Haywards Heath and its London to Brighton mainline train station. The popular, mostly pedestrianised, market town of Horsham is about 7 miles to the west and also has a mainline train station to London and the coast.
For families with school age children, the nearby village of Cuckfield offers one of the most sought after secondary schools in the area, Warden Park Academy, but there is also easy access to Handcross Park School, Ardingly College, Hurstpierpoint College and Burgess Hill School for Girls along with a variety of other popular schools and nurseries for all ages.
Thatched Cottage was built in the 1930s by W.G.Tarrant. He is best known as a Surrey master builder, and the developer of St Georges Hill and the Wentworth Estate in Surrey along with many more excellent high quality homes in Brooklands, Woking and Virginia Waters. Heavens knows why he popped down to Mid Sussex, but we are certainly glad he did.
Everything about the cottage shouts quality and innovation, from the solid Oak front door which opens onto a slate floor, to the beautiful staircase with its recessed bay window overlooking the front garden or the inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove in the living room. Even the dining room has its own feature with the almost full height window framing the landscap

A calendar house is a house that symbolically contains architectural elements in quantities that represent the respective numbers of days in a year, weeks in a year, months in a year and days in a week. For example, Avon Tyrrell House in Hampshire was built with 365 windows, 52 rooms, 12 chimneys, 4 wings and 7 external doors.
Examples are very rare and are most often found in European buildings of the late 16th and early 17th centuries. Rose Hall Great House is a calendar house located east of Montego Bay, Jamaica, that was owned by Annie Palmer. The large country estate Mona Vale in Tasmania, Australia, built in the 1880s, is said to have been designed as a calendar house.
Notable examples in Great Britain include Cairness House in Aberdeenshire, Holme Eden Hall in Cumbria and possibly Knole House in Kent.
Bedstone Court, now the home of Bedstone College, is a flamboyant black-and-white mansion, built between 1882 and 1884, designed by Thomas Harris for Henry Ripley, MP and is a calendar house reputed to have 365 windows, 52 rooms (on the first two floors)12 chimneys and seven external doors. The central hall has a magnificent 52 panelled stained-glass window depicting the months of the year, signs of the zodiac, birds associated with the month and the agricultural activity of the month. The building was heavily damaged by a fire in 1996 but was fully restored
Adare Manor in County Limerick, Ireland is an example of a calendar house, having 365 stained-glass windows and 52 chimneys. It was designed by the architects James Pain and Philip Hardwick. Much of the interior was designed by E.W. Pugin.
Castle Grad in the north-western Goricko region of Slovenia, with its 365 rooms, is a Central European example of a calendar house. Abbey-Cwm-Hir in mid Wales is a notable example of Victorian Gothic Revival architecture, with 52 rooms and 365 windows. Built in 1834 by Thomas Wilson, in the 21st century it is owned by Paul and Victoria Humpherston. It has notable collections and embodies interesting interior design ideas. All 52 rooms are accessible on tours, and everything can be touched.
