(1476) The Church Of St. George of Larissa in Greece
Cultural Traditional Center (KE.L.E.) Larissa, GREECE
In 1985 in Thessaloniki, a group of university students meet each other to share their anxiety about preservation and spread of our folk tradition.
Ten years later, in 1995, that seed gave fruits in Larissa (Greece) when 25 people joined and started to talk about ways we have forgotten and they suggest a beautiful struggle, the struggle of trying to preserve our cultural heritage and enrich our everyday life with stored up treasures and tried practices of knowledge.
That’s how it was created the Cultural Traditional Research Center (KE.L.E.), a non – profitable company of about 800 members who aim at making their everyday life approach once more its natural size and human values, should be defined again under the rule of simple, time-lasting joys – the joys of creation, cozy meetings and elimination of loneliness through INTERVENTION.
The members of the Center themselves have created a beautiful, friendly haunt where they meet each other every day. Nearby there is a workshop for making folk costumes (there have already been made about 900 costumes) from over Greece.
Having as a motto “Dance is only the motive” 800 people, of 4 to 76 years old, are today taught various traditional dances from all region of Greece.
Seminars, convention, festivals (we already participated in festivals in Greece, abroad and the origination of School Festival was the initiative of KE.L.E.), every kind of festivity are not dealt with simply as a show, but they aim and will aim at making all believe that social problems cannot be solved by fragmentary, individual action by collective effort and everybody’s accession into a cultural process. We should make spectator ask himself / herself questions, look for the change of today’s crisis, change daily routine, change attitude towards life, create what we call CIVILIZATION.

The Greek village with rock balance from above - Το χωριό που δεν φοβάται ''χάρο''...
Residents of St. Thomas a beautiful village just outside Heraklion, fear not as the Gauls did their fall the sky on the head or even rocks balancing with mastery acrobat above their heads.
A special place is the '' Horseman '' a rock 'sits atop two others and gave the name of the St. George the' rider '' the church is there next hilltop.
Everyday life in the village flows quietly and the temper of the people, especially those living near the rocks that balance is more than proverbial .... Perhaps it is their faith that St. George protects them and not let them be harmed. However that be true, guests are left with the question.
The spectacle facing the '' Horseman '' to balance and residents living and working from below as if nothing was wrong, do not meet every day ...
I wish, however, to never disappoint the people and for God's sake not to ever use music by ''Rolling Stones'' in this village ... :)

The city of Larisa is the capital of the province and is built on the very central area of the large plain on the right bank of Pineios river. It is one of the most significant commercial, agricultural and communication centers of Hellas. Larisa is a city that combines the remains and color of the long passed Turkish rule and the Ottoman culture, with the Hellenic cultural and architectural style of the beginnings of the 20th century. A city that also combines the tranquillity and the relaxed rhythm of the lazy river, the many storks that build their nests on the tallest buildings of the city and the sleepy movements of the river fishermen, along with the hubbub of a busy, bustling town. After many years of uncontrolled growing the city has managed, only recently, to restore a harmonic relationship with its river and the surrounding environment in general. The city's Post-Office's(Tachydromiou) square with its excellent sculptures, representing the branching, life-giving, ever-flowing water bulk of river Pineios, along with the site of the excavations of the ancient theater of the city, located at its very center, have caused a major transformation of the city, that brings it more close to its origins, bonds it tightly to the surrounding environment and restores its classic atmosphere. The ancient city of the theater had a capacity of 10000 spectators. But this excavation site may not be the city's most significant landmark. This title is most suitably given to the grave of Heppocrates, born in the island of Kos in 460 BC and died in the city of Larisa in 377 BC, who is considered to be the father of modern medicine. At the outskirts of the nearby town of Achileion the ruins of the local castle have been excavated. The ruins are dated back to the 15th century but the original compound was erected sometime during the late Neolithic period. The visit to the Folklore and Historic museum of the city may be proved to be most rewarding for the traveler. Also rewarding is a visit to the city's National Gallery with its fine collection of paintings, only second in significance after the National Gallery of Athens.
