Inside the Crusaders' Citadel in Akko (Israel)
Acre citadel
The citadel at Acre was originally constructed by the Crusaders and the castle features a dry moat as water was too hard a commodity to find in Palestine. The citadel is best known as a prison used during the British mandate of Palestine and was the place where a number of Jewish terrorists were hanged.
Today these terrorists are commemorated in this museum.
A tour of the ancient crusader city of Acre/Akko | Trip to Israel 2019
The city of Acre (Akko) is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, dating back to the time of the Pharaoh Thutmose III (1504-1450 BCE).
It is a city of intrigue, where you can walk through labyrinthine alleys and streets and explore the remnants of Crusader, Muslim and Ottoman conquerors. Walking along the walls of the city, you also get a spectacular view of the sea and, on clear days, the city of Haifa.
The Old City of Akko was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2001.
The city was one of the most important and militarily strategic cities in the world for the better part of two hundred years. Christian warriors from Europe poured into this citadel on their way to do battle with the armies of Islam. It was from here that Hospitalers, Templars, Teutonic Knights and others rode forth to defend the Crusader kingdoms in the Holy Land; and it was here, in Akko, where the crusaders made their last stand in Palestine. During the Christian occupation of Israel, the majority of pilgrims visiting from Europe also passed through Akko enroute to Jerusalem. Today the still-formidable looking city remains a symbol of the act of pilgrimage.

How a visit to Israel's Acre Citadel stressed out our autistic son
Our son got stressed out and agitated during our tour of the Acre Citadel after hearing shots being fired.Apparently, Old Acre can get quite noisy on Fridays afternoons when the locals have weddings and shoot continuously up in the air to mark the happy occasion.
EXPLORING LEBANON & the historic CRUSADER CASTLE (or CITADEL) in TRIPOLI ????
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go visit the Citadel (Castle) of Raymond de Saint Gilles which is among the most impressive in the Middle East, rivaling those in Aleppo and Amman, for sheer size and preservation, but also for its exciting location, rising above a multitude of densely-populated Tripoli (in Lebanon) neighborhoods and sporting views of the sea and the mountains to the east.
Named after one of the first major Crusaders in the region, the original battlements were built during the 12th century. It was burned in a devastating attack by the Mamluks in 1289, but was renovated and expanded in 1308 by the Crusader governor of what was at that time the County of Tripoli, and much of what remains today was built during this time.
It was again renovated and expanded during Ottoman rule, and an inscription above the main gate commemorates these improvements as commissioned by the sultan. Beyond the site’s fascinating and complex history, visitors will be thrilled by the spectacular views, the labyrinthine tour, and the extraordinary sound of the city’s streets reaching up the ramparts into the rarefied air of the castle—an experience only a few ancient citadels in region can offer.
Lebanon is a country in Western Asia. It is bordered by Syria to the north and east and Israel to the south, while Cyprus is west across the Mediterranean Sea. Lebanon's location at the crossroads of the Mediterranean Basin and the Arabian hinterland facilitated its rich history and shaped a cultural identity of religious and ethnic diversity. At just 10,452 km2 (4,036 sq. mi.), it is the smallest recognized sovereign state on the mainland Asian continent.

Israel - Acre, Crusader city
Photographer:Samuel Magal (samuel@sites-and-photos.com)
After roughly four years of siege, Acre finally capitulated to the forces of King Baldwin I of Jerusalem in 1104 following the First Crusade. The Crusaders made the town their chief port in the Kingdom of Jerusalem. On the first Crusade, Fulcher relates his travels with the Crusading armies of King Baldwin, including initially staying over in Acre before the army's advance to Jerusalem.

Acre Old Sity , Israel ∣ MovieMade
Acre is a historic walled port-city with continuous settlement from the Phoenician period. The present city is characteristic of a fortified town dating from the Ottoman 18th and 19th centuries, with typical urban components such as the citadel, mosques, khans and baths. The remains of the Crusader town, dating from 1104 to 1291, lie almost intact, both above and below today's street level, providing an exceptional picture of the layout and structures of the capital of the medieval Crusader kingdom of Jerusalem.
