The Royal Clarence Hotel Fire : Inside Costa Coffee
THE BATTLE to save Costa Coffee for the Exeter blaze has been revealed by Firefighters.
Four hoses were used and can be seen heading through the main shop front and to the back of the store where the blaze has ripped apart the staffroom and back rooms.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service area manager Neil Blackburn said: The hoses were charged with water as the firefighters were dragging them through to stop this fire spreading.
What you can see is basically the floor next door has completely collapsed and the structure of the building that we are dealing including lead and plaster which is really difficult to extinguish.
You can see how difficult it is for our crews to get into this building but crews did a fantastic job in this building with their fire and breathing apparatus and pulled all of the plasterboard and chipboard off of a wall in the staffroom because they knew the fire was behind it.
They had to make holes fight the fire and rip it down all wearing breathing apparatus and handing the hose in a very very difficult and as you can see, very dangerous situation.

Exeter fire Destroyed 'oldest hotel in England'
fire in exeter Destroyed 'oldest hotel in England'. Exeter Cathedral looks upon the sad scene of the Clarence hotel fire. It is described as the oldest hotel in England, dating back to 1769. Royal Clarence was the first venue in England to call itself a hotel.
Huge fire continues to burn more than 24 hours after it broke out.little of historic Royal Clarence Hotel remains.
Local historian Todd Gray said the hotel was “in the heart of what was not just the medieval city, but within the precincts of Roman Exeter”. Gray told the BBC that the Clarence was “the building where they first declared themselves as a hotel. Before that happened [in the 1770s] we had inns, but they took the new French word and applied it to their building … this was the place to stay.”
