Keys Ranch Part II of III
In the high desert country that was to become Joshua Tree National Park, rugged individuals tried their luck at cattle ranching, mining, and homesteading. William F. Keys and his family are particularly representative of the hard work and ingenuity it took to settle and prosper in the Mojave Desert.
In this episode, learn about the start of Bill and France's life on the ranch and how they raised a family.
To preserve its historic character, admission to the ranch is restricted to ranger-guided walking tours. The tours are a half-mile in length and last 90 minutes. Group size is limited to 25 people. For more information, see our website. For reservations, call 760-367-5522.

Palm Springs, California Family Vacation May 2015
Timecode
Resort: 0:36
Zoo: 5:42
Joshua Trees: 7:20
San Andreas Fault: 9:40
Marking the first time I have been to California, one of my favorite states in the United States, this vacation takes place in Palm Springs, California. The video includes footage from the villa, zoo&gardens, Joshua Trees Jeep Tour, and San Andreas Fault Jeep Tour. We also rode the tram, which I decided not to include the footage from in this video, because of my 15 minute upload limit.
The villa I stayed in was the Westin Desert Willow villas. It was a very nice facility featuring a pool table and ping pong table right below our room, on the second floor. Almost every time we wanted to play pool, not many people were out in the area below us, so we got to play immediately. We decided to grill hot dogs for one night. The grills are between the ping pong table and pool table. The villa features a great golf course, which my family and I did not play golf on, because we are not golfers. The workers at the villa offered free golf cart rides around, which made things convienent. The villas also featured a pool area, bar and grill, tennis courts, and other accomodations.
The zoo and gardens were interesting to look at. The toy train station we saw was the biggest one I've ever seen. It was huge, and so cool! We saw the giraffes being fed, as well as all the other animals found at a zoo.
The Joshua Trees Jeep tour took us all the way back into the desert. We crossed some really rough turrain getting there, hitting bumps every second! It took a while to get to the main area, but the journey getting there was exciting and a one of a kind experience. The joshua trees are old and dying because giant sloths are no longer there to keep them alive, so I'm glad we got to see them. The Joshua Tree National Park is home to one of the most popular rock climbing places in the world. Native tribes settled near the rock climbing walls.
The San Andreas Fault Jeep Tour was definitely my favorite part of the vacation, mixing both knowledge and inspiration, as well as adventure. Our tour guide picked us up at a restaurant in the jeep and picked the other family up at another restraurant and we were off! We rode into the Coachella Valley, and then rode further to a gate, where there is private land. Behind that gate was nothing I've ever experienced before. Behind and over the hill the city was visible, but it was an amazing piece of artwork, this piece of land. Palm trees everywhere, along with nature's beauty, a place where native tribes settled. We approached a spring, where the tour guide mentioned that underneath the spring was tons and tons of water, that is some of the world's best drinking water. He told us that Palm Springs has been in competitions for the world's best drinking water. Palm Springs gets its name because of the palm tree, with a spring underneath it. The sheer beauty of being at peace with oneself in a private place where outside communication is cut off is not a feeling I can explain. After seeing the private land, we exited the land and he closed the gate off, then traveled down the road and went to another piece of private land, which took my breath away. It was dark and the night sky was filled with stars, and we went through this private area (someone actually lives back there!) with these amazing rock structures, and it felt like we were on a roller coaster. A once in a lifetime experience, that's for sure. We went back in a cave and stood right on top of the fault line to take a picture, which was an amazing experience. After that, the tour guide took us back on the road and we got out and he showed us the stars, explaining all kinds of astronomy and amazing things to us. I got chills down my spine I was feeling so relaxed, with the cool breeze making me feel even more relaxed.

Palm Springs, the new trendy destination in the US
DESCRIPTION OF MY ROLE:
Last year, I wanted to do a documentary about Barack Obama’s new life after the end of his presidency. I finally found he was about to buy a house in Palm Springs, California. However this transaction was kept secret.
I did an investigation to find French and American characters to talk about that city. I also wanted to find people to show us where Barack Obama used to spend time and where he would live.
It took me two weeks to plan this documentary, and to convince a real estate to go in an area forbidden for journalists and cameras.
This place is called Rancho Mirage. Only Presidents and billionaires live here. I also convinced a second real estate agent to visit Leonardo Dicaprio’s amazing house in Palm Springs, which can be rent for holidays.
Then, I chose the pieces I wanted and I came back to France to do the video editing with a professional. I wrote a comment and I did the voice over.
In total, it took me one month of work. From the beginning, I worked with a professional videographer. This is my first documentary and it was aired on one of the most famous program in France.
