Hundreds of people cheered on Monday (4 SEPT. 2017) as Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, arrived to open the U.K.'s tallest bridge.
The ceremony comes on the day Kensington Palace announced that Prince William and his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, are expecting their third child.
The Queen and members of both families are delighted with the news, the palace said in a statement.
The Queen, dressed in a bright blue coat and hat, cut a ribbon to signify the formal opening of the new Queensferry Crossing across the Firth of Forth.

Gabriel family spared jail after Accrington pub brawl
Afamily evicted from their council house after they decked it out with a swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi and a four-poster waterbed have walked free from court after two men were glassed in a pub brawl.Samantha Gabriel, 37, and her brothers Shane, 29, and Gavin, 28, were arrested after getting involved in a fight between two drunks at the Nags Head pub in Accrington, Lancashire.Despite admitting to affray, mother-of-seven Samantha was spared jail after a court heard she was 'reliant' on benefits, while her two siblings also avoided jail despite a string of convictions for violent behaviour.The Gabriel family rose to notoriety in 2004 after they were evicted from their council home 'palace' in Padiham, near Burnley, Lancs.A court heard how investigators found it decked out with a swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi, plus a four-poster water bed and a £3,000 42-inch plasma screen TV.When police raided the property they found £10,000 in £20 notes under the mattress of the water bed plus electrical goods, DVD machines, video recorders, the home cinema system and numerous CDs.It was claimed they inflicted '21 years of anti-social behaviour' towards neighbours and even created a family logo: 'It's a Gabriel thing - you wouldn't understand'.Family matriarch Janis Gabriel, herself a mother-of-seven living on state benefits with her late husband John, was jailed in 2004.During her trial, a jury was told that the family were receiving £2,000 a month in benefits but paid no council tax or rent on the house.Janis claimed her husband was a 'penny-pincher' and said she got the money playing bingo and fruit machines, but was found guilty of possessing criminal property.She was jailed for six months but had were conviction quashed after the judge's directions to the jury were deemed to be 'flawed' by the Court of Appeal in 2006.Gavin and Shane - who lived at the property with their parents - subsequently clocked up a string of convictions for violence.The family designed its own logo: 'It's a Gabriel thing - you wouldn't understand' based on the novelty clothing range - and posted it on their Facebook pages.At Burnley Crown Court on Thursday, Shane was given a community order for 12 months and Gavin received three months jail suspended for six months.One victim had cuts to his head and the other suffered cuts to his forehead and the top of his head.Both men admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm.Samantha, who has seven children aged between 10 and 18 from different fathers, admitted affray but was conditionally discharged for 12 months after a court heard she was 'reliant' on benefits.The fight occurred in the Nags Head Pub in Accrington on March 22, 2016 after a local drunk known only as Joe made offensive remarks to another regular in the pub.Another patron intervened but the drunk fell into a fruit machine - causing the fight to spread through the bar.Gavin was seen to hit one of the injured victims up to three times in the brawl.The court heard Gavin had

The Mary Towneley Loop
Ian Donohoe and James T Whittaker take on the Mary Towneley loop on a perfect summers day. The ride kicked off in Accrington and after climbing over Hameldon Hill we joined the Pennine Bridleway network at Crown Point. It took approx 7hrs to complete the loop inc good lunch stop at Aladdin's cave on Edge Lane. Near the end and after dropping down into Waterfoot we hacked back to Accrington on the road. Total distance 58 miles. The MTL is a brilliant long distance Mountain bike route, especially in these conditions.
