UK: Bristol Street Preacher's Conviction Overturned By Convictions Crown Court
Christian evangelists Mike Overd, Adrian Clark and Michael Stockwell were arrested last year for sharing the gospel in Bristol. The court dismissed the case against Adrian Clark, ruling that there was no case to answer.
Mike Overd and Michael Stockwell were convicted of religiously aggravated public order convictions in February this year. They were found guilty under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 at Bristol Magistrates' Court.
On Thursday 29 June, Bristol Crown Court overturned the convictions at an appeal hearing. Mike and Michael were represented by Standing Counsel to the Christian Legal Centre, Paul Diamond, and allied solicitor to the Christian Legal Centre, Michael Phillips.
The Christian Legal Centre has a 100% success rate in defending street preachers. Thank you for your support.

Princess Haya and Dubai ruler begin London court battle
The ruler of Dubai, one of the most high-profile leaders in the Middle East, and his estranged wife are beginning a court battle in London over the welfare of their children.
Sheikh Mohammed al-Maktoum's wife, Princess Haya Bint al-Hussein, is the third female member of his court to run away from the United Arab Emirates.
[News taken from BBC. All clips may not represent the story. Watch to become bilingual as this video is specially made for English learners.]
This month she was reported to be in hiding in London in fear for her life.
The UK court case centres around their children, with whom she fled.
Princess Haya, who was born in Jordan and educated at private schools in Britain, is an Olympic equestrian and the half-sister of the current Jordanian ruler, King Abdullah II.
She married Sheikh Mohammed in 2004, becoming his sixth and junior wife. The 70-year-old sheikh, who is the billionaire owner of Godolphin horse racing stables, reportedly has 23 children by different wives.
Princess Haya initially fled to Germany to try and seek asylum there, but it emerged this month that she was living in central London - specifically, in an £85m ($107m) town house in Kensington Palace Gardens.
It's believed that Princess Haya will want to stay in the UK. However, if her husband demands her return to Dubai, this could cause a diplomatic headache for Britain - which has close ties to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
After she fled, Sheikh Mohammed wrote an angry poem accusing an unnamed woman of betrayal and treachery, and posted it on his Instagram page.
Why is Princess Haya said to have run away?
Sources close to the princess said earlier this month that she had recently discovered disturbing facts about the mysterious return to Dubai last year of Sheikha Latifa, one of Sheikh Mohammed's daughters.
Sheikha Latifa had escaped the UAE by sea with the help of a Frenchman, but was intercepted by armed men off the coast of India. She was then returned to Dubai.
At the time, Princess Haya defended Dubai's reputation over the incident, claiming that Shiekha Latifa had been vulnerable to exploitation and was now safe in Dubai. Human rights advocates said she was abducted against her will.
However later, sources alleged that Princess Haya had become aware of new information related to the case, and as a result came under increasing pressure from her husband's extended family.
[The following biography taken from Wikipedia:]
Princess Haya bint Hussein was born on 3 May 1974. She is the daughter of King Hussein of Jordan and his third wife Queen Alia, and the half-sister of King Abdullah II. She married the ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, in 2004, becoming his sixth and junior wife. She is known internationally as Princess Haya of Jordan.
He had her graduation from Oxford University in England. She is an accomplished equestrian, representing Jordan at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. She is the two-term President of the International Federation for Equestrian Sports. In addition, she engages in a variety of charitable activities.
In June 2019, it was reported that she had left her husband and fled Dubai with her children, and was seeking asylum in the United Kingdom.
She was born in Amman, the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. She has a younger brother, Prince Ali bin Hussein and younger sister, Abir Muhaisen. However, her sister was adopted after her biological mother was killed by a plane crash at their Palestinian refugee camp in Amman. At that time she was 3 years old. Her father died from complications related to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1999. leaving the crown to her half-brother, King Abdullah II.
She was educated in the United Kingdom, where she attended Badminton School for Girls in Bristol, Bryanston School in Dorset and later St Hilda's College, Oxford University, from which she graduated with a BA honours degree in philosophy, politics, and economics.
On 10 April 2004, Princess Haya wed Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The marriage ceremony was held at al-Baraka Palace in Amman.
On 26 September 2014, She was awarded Officer of the National Order of the Legion of Honour which is France’s highest distinction. And, 22 January 2015, she was also awarded Hunger Hero by UN World Food Programme in Davos, Switzerland.

United Kingdom, Great Britain, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales... CONFUSED???
The United Kingdom, Great Britain, England, or the British Isles: Which one should you use, and what’s the difference between them? And how do Ireland, Scotland, and Wales relate to all of this? It really is confusing, but in this video I will explain exactly what each name refers to, and what belongs where, so you’ll have no more confusion! We’ll also talk about the relationship of Northern Ireland to the UK, as well as the Crown dependencies – the Isle of Man, Jersey, and Guernsey. I’ll also touch upon identity issues such as the proportion of people who feel ‘British’ as opposed to just ‘English’, ‘Welsh’, ‘Scottish’, or ‘Irish’. This one is a really huge lesson, full of facts and interesting trivia about the differences between the countries that make up the United Kingdom. If you learn everything in this lesson and take the quiz at you will truly be an expert on the geography and people of the UK!
NEXT, watch some of my other videos about life and customs in England and the UK:

TRANSCRIPT
Hi, everyone. In this lesson we're going to look at the geography of the United Kingdom and we're also going to look at some culture related to all the different terms we use to describe Great Britain, England... All these different words, when do we use them? So we're going to break it down and look at that.
Let's start with the name. The official name is United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, but often we just say UK because it's such a long country name, so we just say UK. I drew a map. My map is not to scale. And I tried my best, but it was hard to do it with the pens on the board, so we're going to show you a correct map. We've got England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. And the dotted line shows where Northern Ireland ends. This part is part of the United Kingdom; this part is not. More on that later.
So, the UK is a sovereign state or we could say a sovereign country. This means that they make all their own laws, and they govern themselves. So, the UK is a sovereign state or a sovereign country. But the reason that's confusing is that we... When we're talking or when we're describing a place in the world, we talk about Scotland, England, Wales, and Ireland as being countries. So, you think: Is...? If the UK is a country, are Scotland, England, Wales, and Ireland also a country? Well, they are, but they don't make their own laws. So, we have a word for it and we can call them constituent countries. We can say England is a constituent country of the United Kingdom. We can say Scotland is a constituent country of the United Kingdom, etc. Okay.
Now it gets more confusing because when we're talking about the UK, we can say it's made up of those countries - Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. We can also say it's made up of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Great Britain is this land mass, this island shape, here; and Northern Ireland is part of the land mass, the island of Ireland. So, if we put this bit and this bit together, we get the United Kingdom.
Great Britain has three constituent countries. Remember, this is Great Britain, Scotland, England, and Wales make up Great Britain. Britain... Now we're getting smaller. This is Britain, England, and Wales. So, I can say: I'm from Britain, because I'm from... I was born about here in London, so I can say: I'm from Britain.
Now, we have another term called The British Isles. The British Isles is a geographic term, so we use it to describe a place on the map. And the British Isles would include everything we see here. Actually, perhaps except these islands. These islands are called Jersey and Guernsey, and they're closer to France. But the British Isles could describe everything here in a geographic sense. And I wasn't able to draw all the islands, but there's actually over 6,000 islands up in Scotland, some down here as well. So, many, many islands.
But the trouble with that term, to say the British Isles is that some people in Ireland don't like that term to describe... To include them because it makes it sound like Ireland, it's British, even though Ireland is independent. Ireland is a sovereign country by itself. So some people object to calling this the British Isles.
If you do object to calling it the British Isles, you can say the North Atlantic-I can never say this word-Archipelago. Archipelago. And this means, like, collection of islands. And the place in the world is in the North Atlantic. Right. […]

Police confiscate £4 Million property & cash in 2011 - Avon & Somerset Bristol
£1m was seized from drug dealer James Waithe who represented Judo for Barbados at the Seoul Olympics in 1988.
He is serving a prison sentence for involvement in the supply of drugs.
A judge sitting at Bristol Crown Court found that he and another man 'Rodel' had benefited from crime by about £35m.
They face additional prison sentences if they fail to pay the money within six months.
Confiscation orders totalling a record £3.1m have been made in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Somerset since April 2011.
Police and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) have confiscated proceeds of crime from people including drug dealers, fraudsters and burglars.
Figures show that almost £10m has been seized in the last four years.
'Lengthy process'
Figures show that from April 2010 to March 2011, 158 confiscation orders were made to a value of £2.4m
From April 2009 to March 2010, there were 132 confiscation orders totalling £838,203.
And from April 2008 to March 2009, there were 136 confiscation orders totalling £2.2m.
Vicky Cook, deputy chief prosecutor for the CPS in the South West, said any benefit gained from criminal activity could be the subject of a confiscation order.
She added: Of course there is a lengthy process the court goes through to ensure that assets are looked at carefully and the defendant obviously needs to live but ultimately, anything that has been gained can be put before the court to be confiscated.
Cash, boats, houses, pets can be very expensive. They're all assets we'll look to confiscate.
Court is shown CCTV of Ben Stokes mocking gay clubbers
Ben Stokes, 27 was today accused of 'trying to provoke the two gay men' by a bouncer who claimed he was sworn at in an 'angry and spiteful tone' after he refused him entry to a nightclub. Stokes then allegedly tried to bribe his way in with £300. The video clip shows the sportsman outside Mbargo in Bristol on September 25 last year, just hours after England beat the West Indies. The fast bowler, who is on trial for affray, alongside Ryan Hale, 27, and Ryan Ali, 28, is also accused of flicking a cigarette at gay clubbers William O'Connor and Kai Barry in a fit of rage, after they allegedly poked fun at his gold-encrusted trainers. Giving evidence at Bristol Crown Court, doorman Andrew Cunningham said the millionaire sportsman humiliated the two gay customers by 'mimicking their high-pitched voices and camp gestures' before fighting with Hale and Ali down the street. Ali was left with a shattered eye socket after the brawl and Hale in hospital, after they were both knocked unconscious.
