A scything course at Pishill near Henley
Scything is a very effective and environmentally-friendly way to manage grasslands, not to mention a great way to get some exercise! The Chilterns Conservation Board runs scything courses every summer - this video shows a one-day course at Pishill in the Stonor Valley near Henley. The courses are led by Nigel Adams, a very experienced trainer in a range of countryside skills ( If you are interested in taking part in a course please contact Neil Jackson at the Conservation Board via njackson@chilternsaonb.org
Invictus Games Sydney 2018: Day 4 - Sitting Volleyball Finals (Stream 2)
Make no mistake, sitting volleyball is no leisurely pursuit. This event requires lightning-fast reflexes as mixed teams of six bump, set, spike and slide keeping at least one buttock in contact with the floor at all times.
Scheduled start and finish times are approximate, taking into account the needs of the participants and organisers. All times shown in AEDT.

Walks from Stansted Mountfitchet on 25 May 2018
A few walks first round the village enjoying the historic buildings and beautiful landscape. Some interesting pubs including The Cock and The Dog and Duck. Also the Stansted Windmill close to my accommodation.
The second walk, I walk across the fields to check out a pub The Three Horse Shops at Hazel End, Farnham. Unfortunately it is closed but enjoy the walk and go to the Rose And Crown instead back at Stansted. A longer slideshow as there are so many wonderful things to see on these walks.
Stansted Mountfitchet is an English village and civil parish in Uttlesford district, Essex, near the Hertfordshire border, 35 miles north of London. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 5,533, increasing to 6,011 at the 2011 census. The village is served by Stansted Mountfitchet railway station. Wikipedia
Stansted Windmill is a grade II* listed ancient monument given to the people of Stansted by Lord Blyth in 1934. A classic example of a tower mill, Stansted Windmill is close to unique in having most of its original machinery with few replaced components.
The Mill was built by Joseph Linsell and his wife in 1787. They also built a Malthouse and a villa here.
Over the course of the next century, the Mill was modified to incorporate technological advances in windmill design, principally the change from common canvas sails to patent shutter sails in 1857.
Running a mill was financially perilous. At least four people have become bankrupt, or nearly, operating the Mill. After Linsell sold it in 1807 it was often run by tenant millers and was put up for auction three times. The Industrial Revolution meant that other means of grinding grain were increasingly adopted.
James Blyth, later to become the first Lord Blyth, bought the Mill in 1887. His son instituted initial preservation work on the Mill, an activity which has been continued to the present day. The Mill was “conveyed for the benefit of the inhabitants of Stansted” by the second Lord Blyth in 1935.
The Three Horseshoes is a traditional, beamed country inn dating back to the early 16th Century. Set within picturesque surroundings and overlooking the Farnham village cricket green, The Three Horseshoes is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing drink and excellent home cooking in a mature atmosphere.
We have recently completed our new, spacious oak-framed dining area. During construction we discovered an amazing 90ft village well. This has been illuminated and glazed, creating a safe and spectacular feature in the floor of this room.
The Three Horseshoes has a food hygiene rating of 5 and is also listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2018/19 and the Essex Food and Drink Guide.
With a bar area where you can relax in front of a wood-burning stove on chilly nights, a cosy snug if you’d like a more romantic atmosphere, or joining in the chatter at the main bar; you will always receive a warm welcome at the Rose & Crown in Stansted. There's ample parking and an enclosed garden with play equipment for the children; being a south facing garden it enjoys the sun all day, making it a glorious place to sit on a summers evening..

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.
