THE CUMBRIA WAY - LAKE DISTRICT - Day 1 of 7 - Ulverston to Torver
This is a series of 7 video's showing you every inch of the 74 Mile Cumbria Way in all it's glory. Filmed from the 13th to the 19th May 2018 in wonderful sunny conditions. The walk was being completed to raise money for the MARIE CURIE charity, which is close to the heart of 78 year old David Galloway who has survived Cancer not once but twice. It is also close to all the rest of the team, namely Rob Dixon, Graham Saunders and Chris Blake who's wife Sharon was keen for us to raise this money as tender Hospice comfort was given to her Father in his final years.
The total amount raised will be given in the final video.
Music is provided by The Bus Boys with 'The boys are back in Town', Ben Mills with 'A little help from my friends', Manuel Inman with 'This moment called now' and Craig Armstrong with 'Finding Beauty'.
Special thanks to our Sherpa - CLARE HARVEY and the wonderful people who looked after our cars and kit in Carlisle, MARY and DEREK ASHBRIDGE. Without your unselfish hard work and help this walk would not have been possible, Thank you so much.

Solo hiking the Cumbria Way - Aug 18
Short video of the sights and difficulties I encountered upon my solo hike of the Cumbrian Way. We start in the beautiful town of Ulverston at the Gill and battle our way across hills mountains and forests to finish at the information centre in Carlisle some 75 miles and six days later. It was wet, very wet and for me an extreme challenge. Navigating the track was problematic to say the least. Some climbs brutal and others a joy. But you dig deep and succeed :-)ATB. Dave and a big well done to all who have attempted this walk.

What’s with all the Stone Walls in the Cumbrian Lake District?
Andy, my guide in the Lake District, has spent a lifetime exploring Cumbria — and I’m enjoying an entire day with him. Join us as we go over Kirkstone Pass — 1,500 feet above sea level is a big deal around here — and listen in as he tells me why, centuries ago, farmers built all these impressive dry-stone walls.
The Cumbria Way- Lake District March 2017
This is what the Cumbria Way is like in March. In one week there was snow, rain and sunburn but it was still a fantastic trip. If I where to do it again then I would start in Carlisle and get the boring bit out of the way to begin with. The route goes through a number of locations that would be nice to stop at for a few days. I would also avoid camping because of the number of YHAs on the route. The only advantage of camping was that I didn't need to book in advance. If I hadn't needed a tent and lots of warm clothes then I would have used a far smaller bag.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Cumbria way and I would like to do it again some day.
Cumbria Way 2018 - Hiking and Camping in the Lake District
The Cumbria Way is a 76 mile walk through the heart of the Lake District, starting in Ulverston and finishing in Carlisle. It takes in some of the best scenery the Lake District has to offer including Coniston Water, Langstrath Valley, Derwent Water, and Glenderaterra Valley (and lots more!).
I did the walk over 5 days in early July 2018, staying at campsites along the way (apart from in Keswick, where I spent the night in a guest house).
I thoroughly recommend the walk to anyone but, if you are thinking of doing it, just be aware that it is not as well sign-posted as other long walks in the UK (e.g The West Highland Way). In poor weather / visibility there are a few sections when a map and compass would be essential. I also found it to be much less busy than other walks I have done. There were many sections when I did not see any other walkers for several hours at a time. I liked this aspect of the walk but it is something to be aware of.

I didn't carry any cooking equipment due to the availability of hot meals along the route, and I don't mind eating cold / dried food in the tent. I carried about 2000 calories worth of food at all times, to see me through areas where food wasn't available. This mostly took the form of nuts (Macadamia and Cashew) and dark chocolate bars).
In total, throughout the trip my backpack averaged about 8kg, without water.
